if I ever strike gold and end up writing a popular book series i'd love to keep an eye on the fandom to determine the smallest crackship and make that the only one that goes canon

like the point of these studies (i assume) is to show that even if you don't purposely program an ai to cause harm, it still might do so if you program it to prioritize completing it's objection in way where FAILURE is treated as worse than people dying, while also giving it tools to harm. which is good for people to know, but i'm afraid too many people just read the headline and think skynet is real now, and that's going to be an issue when an ai-related work accident happens and instead of blaming companies for having an unsafe work enviroment they blame. the machine itself. and not the people programming it
it's frustrating reading articles with the headline "AI TRIES TO KILL IT'S CREATORS AFTER LEANING IT WAS BEING REPLACED" and than actually reading the article and it's "in a controlled simulation programmers discover that if you tell an ai program to "complete a task at all costs" while also giving the ability to commit immoral acts such as blackmail or killing people, it might blackmail or kili people" and like. that's sounds less fearmongery but also you probably shouldn't do that.

(this isn't counting streaming, specifically going to a movie theater to watch a movie is what i'm asking. doesn't have to be a mainstream movie theater, artsy ones count too)

like there's always going to be a stage in your life where you like. legally are considered an adult and having the rights and responsibility of one, but don't quite have the experience of an adult to feel like you're making the right decisions in life, like i'm 23 and i still don't "feel like an adult" because i haven't quite reached alot of the milestones expected of me (and i'm not sure if i ever will because you know. disabled) which is why it personally really annoys me when people say shit like like "what a does a 26 and a 23 year old have in common? by 26 you already own a house and have your masters degree" like what the fuck are you talking about actually
i think there needs to be some middle ground between "if you're legally an adult it's IMPOSSIBLE for you to be taken advantage of due to your age" and "anyone under 30 is legally a child who shouldn't be allowed to feed themselves" because neither of them are particularly helpful.

"anyone who's against executing pedophiles is telling on themselves" or maybe they're afraid of that law being used to execute sex workers, gay people and trans people's considering the same conservatives who are constantly labeling them as perverts also advocate for the death penalty for sex offenders. which is probably a coincidence.
"the age of consent should be 21" is alot like "the death penalty should include sex offenders" as twitter discourse topics, in the sense that i feel like the people bringing up those 'hot takes" barely believe in them and are only using them as a morality test because they think the only reason you would be opposed to them is because you're a evil pervert and not because actually trying to make those laws actionable in reality would have pretty natural consequences that noone advocating for them is actually thinking about.

"let's raise the age of consent to 21 and see who get's mad" probably 20 year olds who can't vote or access trans healthcare because there is not a single country where the age of majority is younger than the age of consent, because why would someone who's legally an adult in terms of paying taxes, working a full time job, and die in wars legally not be allowed to have sex???

the issue with "voting with your wallet" is that most people don't do it. like most people who want "original films" didn't go out and see the 30th live action disney remake or 8th toy story sequel, they're just severely outnumbered by people who do, and your average movie go-er isn't basing what films they're going to watch on how it's going to affect the industry, they're going to do it based on short term enjoyment. like normies just don't give a shit, they just don't want to waste their money on a film they might not enjoy, even if that enjoyment is just nostalgia. sad.

everytime an animated film fails in the west, people online are quick to blame "animation fans" for not going out to see it and therefore single-handedly causing it's failure, when like, i think the reason these films fail is because the general public didn't go out to see it actually. like i asked both my mom and my 10 year old cousin (who saw the minecraft movie twice) if they wanted to see this film and neither of them were interested, which is probably a more relevant factor i think. that and lack of marketing.
