Roark really hadn't met to surprise the other trainer as he surfaced from the underground in the Ice Cavern; it was an accident, really. How was he supposed to know someone was walking where he was coming up?

"Sorry about that, er, Mindy right?" he offered as he stood up and let out a sheepish laugh. "I didn't realise I came up near the main pathway."

@brcidablik asked for a starter. Roark had arrived in Hoenn for the league meetings, granted, he had come a few days to explore their caves and see the difference between the regions... and maybe find a few new fossils for his collection to one-up Byron.

He was poking around in their Victory road, he had heard the desert was the place to go for fossils but it didn't hurt to see if there was anything nearby the league. He barely noticed as his Cranidos butted at him, trying to warn him someone was approaching. He glanced at the rock type before looking over his shoulder at the newcomer. He was pretty sure it was one of the region's Elite Four.

"Hello there, sorry I didn't hear you approach. Can I help you?"

By the sounds of things, the bug had a trainer. Where they were was a mystery for now, and it seems the bug wasn't interested in showing him to them either.

That was a tad troublesome, it was dangerous to have her rolling the way she was earlier down here, she could easily hurt someone, and help wasn't exactly easy access for someone down here...

While lost in thoughts the bug wandered away from him and took off down the tunnel, resulting in Cranidos running after it with a warning noise to Roark.

He really hoped she didn't start rolling again, or else he was going to have to battle her, and he would rather not hurt the Pokémon if he could avoid it.

Maybe that person was her trainer? No, it was not judging by their interaction.

"Sorry about that," Roark called out as he caught up with a jog. "She's someone's Pokémon they let run loose down here. I'm trying to track down her trainer. Have you seen anyone else around here?" he asked the poor, confused trainer.

Pendra made a happy little rumble as he offered her some pats upon her head, which she happily lowered more to give him access. What a treat this was! Normally Daedra had to coax other people to let them pet her - because she was a very big bug! Yess!

At the mention of the word 'trainer', the Scolipede made a little bugle, perhaps in some sort of confirmation to him. Why, yes!! She did have a trainer, but she wasn't lost! Daedra was where she had been earlier-- Pendra was sure~ Her trainer was always where she was supposed to be-- Yes!!

The dark tunnels of the underground were very new to all of them! Well, not really to her. She was a bug, so she'd been in the dirt and holes plenty, atleast when she was a smaller bug! Not much running space here, but it was sure more fun to roll!

Daedra had said they could find things down here-- Pendra was helping! Pendra would find lots of things, yes she would! Lots of good things-- the Scolipede wasn't sure what these 'good things' were specifically, but she was sure she could tell when she found them~ Yess!!

Suddenly there was an exclamation from farther down the path of the tunnel, with a flicker of a lantern light being moved. It immediately caught Pendra's attention, her long neck perking up as her antennae wiggled about--Oh!! Pendra would go see!!

All but abandoning Roark for the moment, Pendra carefully accordioned herself to turn and casually trotted down into the pitch darkness of the tunnel, making her way towards the sound and minor light shimmer.

Against a slab of stone walling, a young hopeful clacked their small hammer against the hard surface. 'C'mon... something good--' came the chant under their breathe.

Suddenly, an oval object popped free from where it had been wedged tight, clattering to the floor. Eager hands immediately clamored about to pick it up, shining their light to reveal the smooth blue crystal surface.

'Nice!! A water stone!!'

The small celebration was suddenly interrupted as a large mass loomed overhead, and a thin pink ribbon of a tongue started pecking over the evolution stone.

The person holding it was a bit too confused and shell-shocked to make much of a fuss, other than to stare wide eyed.

'Um.... hey...I... I don't think it's gonna work on you...'

What even was this pink monstrosity?

Roark grinned and let out a chuckle at that. "I'm the closest Gym leader and most knowledgeable, so it usually falls to me to maintain the tunnels around Oreburgh. And no worries, they are designed to take some abuse, or we'd be in a lot of trouble. I just like to fix issues before they get serious."

At question, he let out a hum. It was a curious phenomenon indeed. Why did some Pokémon evolve only here?

"Considering my own Nosepass evolved here, I have some thoughts on the matter. I've heard that the electromagnet field inside the caves of Mt. Coronet is unique, but I'm not sure why or what causes it. If you want, I can take some of the rocks back with me and have them examined."

Dawn was a little surprised. She knew that the league put some effort into maintaining Sinnoh’s routes, especially the ones that go through caves, to make the league challenge as safe as possible for trainers, but she didn’t know that Roark did so personally! How responsible!

“That’s really nice of you!” She said cheerfully, though she was still squinting slightly from the brightness surrounding her now that Roark was holding a lit lamp and Athena was using her powers to illuminate the area. “I hope I’m not giving you too much extra work every time my Torterra uses Earthquake. I mean, it happens pretty often.”

Ground-type Pokémon are the natural enemies of construction workers, after all.

“By the way, since you’re a Rock specialist, how much do you know about the way Nosepass evolves? It happens when they battle here in Mt. Coronet, and I’m trying to figure out what exactly makes that happen.”

Ice:

Full honesty, he grew up in Oreburgh and stays mostly in Sinnoh. He's not a huge fan of the colder areas of Sinnoh, and often tries to avoid them when he can. He also is not a huge fan of damp, muggy climates either.

He prefers the underground climate of dry and cool, but understands he can't spent all of his time digging around in the underground.

Grass:

Assuming he's banned from work and fossil-related things: He does enjoy watching movies, TV and hanging with friends or just exploring the nearby mountains. He does read in his downtimes as well. He prefers watching action movies and some documentaries, and the same goes for his book taste as well. He has a small collection of comic books as well. He's terrified of Horror movies, though.

Ghost Normal and Electric

He's a workaholic, often working to the point he almost collapses before taking a break.

He's also extremely hardheaded on things, it's often shows when Roark and his father are in the same room due to their similar personalities, often resulting in a battle or argument between the two.

Electric: What kinds of quirks/eccentricities do they have or indulge in?

You mean besides his fossil obsession?

He doesn't like to be without his helmet; he only really takes it off to sleep at home, napping anywhere else, usually, the helmet stays on.

He also tends to keep his Cranidos out whenever he can; he finds it comforting to have his friend out exploring with him and helps keep an eye on things for him.
