Buried beneath its wild undergrowth and savage natural beauty, the Madagascan town of Diego Suarez hides many secrets. In 2003, whilst riding his motorbike home from Le Grand Circle Diego casino one evening, Cyril Costilhes’ father was involved in an accident that left him crippled with front lobe dementia. As a result, just over 10 years later, Costilhes has returned to shoot the mysteries of the land that snared his father’s sanity. The French photographer recorded his findings in his new book the Grand Circle Diego – and the results are dark, twisted and startling. Opening with an ominous quote from Conrad’s Heart Of Darkness, it reveals a nightmarish new side to an otherwise idyllic town. Obscured and captionless images of discarded bones and facial deformities flicker to torn flesh and blood pools as Costilhes battles with his demons and revisits his father’s old home. Emma and Jamie had been together for many years when in 2015 Jamie was diagnosed with Small Cell Carcinoma. This has since spread across the body and is terminal. With the help of The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation, Emma and Jamie were married on a beautiful day at Sopley Mill, Sopley on May 15th 2016. It was a true honour to be invited along to the big day to tell their story.

Attention to detail is important, and when you’re a designer it naturally becomes a part of your everyday focus. A number of small details come together and the design becomes a ’sum of all parts’ - both functional and beautiful. This is certainly the case with the Dirt Nap - Designed by Ben McTavish it is a thing of unquestionable beauty, but whose good looks stem from a need for versatility in the water. Its narrow waist brings trim speed, its soft rails bring a seamless transition through turns, and its defined nose concave generates lift when you need it most.

The construction of the Dirt Nap continues this detail theme. A unique clustered 3 stringer glue-up, a white or pastel 8oz pigment deck and rails, wide laps and an 8oz volan insert form the base, then work in with more subtle details like the clear glass-on leash loop and pin-line free lamination, which showcases Bill McLeans perfect cut-laps. Simplicity forms the basis for this model, and as such there are only 3 available sizes and 3 available colours.

A board of such calibre deserves a rider and a clip to match, so we’ve chosen Byron Bays own Josie Prendergast, and award-winning local film-maker Stefan Jose to introduce to you, the 2017 Dirt Nap.
