Her mother was depressed and cynical due to an expectancy on a way of life she had been promised. She rarely took it out on Esther herself, but it wasn’t hard to see as she grew older. She was never all that close with any of her parents or parental figures.

If she’s interested in someone, she will show it by extended personal time with that person, her company. She’s observant, she may pick up things for them that they need/may not know they need, want, or sometimes making her own little gifts. She can be pretty affectionate and likes physical contact, so she will lean on, touch, and hold people she’s partnered with.  RELATIONSHIP TENDENCIES.  She doesn’t get into romantic relationships all that often, which is in part of her own isolation that she tends to feed and the fact that she tends to be good friends with people before she shows any sort of interest in a romantic relationship. She’s a bit of a subtle lover and enjoys relationships where she can go at her own pace.

PHYSICAL ILLNESSES.    N/A LEFT OR RIGHT BRAINED.   More left leaning. FEARS AND PHOBIAS.   Has a fear of knives, especially when pointed at her or pressed under her neck, against her cheek. Heights, the vertigo keeps her from going up too high. Despite her own choice to be by her lonesome, she does fear abandonment by people she’s grown close to.  SELF CONFIDENCE LEVEL.   Borderline middle, sometimes low due to isolation and/or difficulties, especially after her cousin’s death. VULNERABILITIES.   She actively chooses not to speak, which can make it hard for her to communicate emergencies or problems clearly. Her lack of money puts hunger in her a lot, especially on long journeys. Insomnia related to her mental state can make her vulnerable while working certain jobs.

sharp-teeth-and-wide-grins‌ (???):
Tumblr media
First Sean was confused. Did she slash her throat? Did someone else? There wasn’t any blood dripping from her neck, so he was left puzzled. Then it finally hit him - she was mute.
“Ah- so yer one of those deadly but silent types, huh?” He let out a chuckle as he put his foot on top of a crat and rested his arm across his knee, still wanting to engage in a conversation with her. It would be hard, but it didn’t appear to be too much of a challenge for Sean MacGuire.
He has seen her writing things down and presenting them to Dutch, and obviously, that would be a problem for Sean. He didn’t like admitting that he couldn’t read, but he felt like he had to so she knew beforehand.
He let out an awkward chuckle before continuing, trying his best to explain his disadvantage, “I- uh, ya’ see…I don’t exactly know how to read. I can read body language…but not things are written down. It’s just not for me!” He tried his best to keep the cherry tone that he always had, his positive outlook, but he knew he sounded awkward when explaining it at first.
“Lenny is trying to teach me, but like I said- not for me!”
Esther canted her head to the side for a few moments in partial agreement. Silent? Yes. Deadly? She wasn't sure. There were times, but...well, that was work. Sometimes downright self defense. Still, he got the idea so she let him have that—at least he didn't make her run through a couple more demonstrations. (She honestly wasn't sure how many more of those she could make.) However, her expression fell somewhat as she watched him explain awkwardly that he couldn't read—no judgment from her, this was a problem she knew pretty well. Most people she came across didn't know, either. Hell, she wasn't the STRONGEST reader herself, but she knew enough to get by. Still, she couldn't exactly explain that completely to him, especially with the journal not being able to work with him for now.
Tumblr media
She let out a small sigh through her nose, pursing her lips slightly before she glanced back toward him and offered an understanding smile and nod. He wasn't the first person she'd ran into who couldn't, and he wouldn't be the last.
If anything, there was the option to have someone read her words to him if there came a point where she wasn't making any sense. Really, the fact that he was giving her the time of day was something she was grateful for. She was used to being an outsider, but it wasn’t as obvious as it was in her current situation.

          HEADCANONS - Speech.
She wishes she could talk like she used to, very much so, but, with a good amount of her tongue missing, her speech can be rather unintelligible at points. It's something she'd rather forgo altogether, as difficult as it is sometimes. However, her vocal cords aren't damaged, she can make sounds from her throat (laughing, humming, etc) to help get her point across and some words she can pronounce somewhat clearly, so she tends to use it as a last resort or when she’s run out of options. Really, she could relearn how to talk by making certain letter sounds that come more from the throat, but her situation doesn't really afford her the opportunity to learn how to do that.
She prefers to write to communicate, it's probably one of the few things she's thankful her father had managed to teach her and her cousin, though her vocabulary is pretty simple and she tends to keep her messages to the point. The journal she keeps with her isn't all that interesting, just a lot of one-sided conversations and she uses it solely for that purpose. However, she also knows that it's uncommon for people to know how to read so she knows that she may not always have the chance to communicate through that method.
Esther absolutely hates having her intelligence assumed because of her silence. She will often bend over backwards to prove otherwise.
She exaggerates her gestures and expressions sometimes in order to convey what she's trying to say, and she tends to use touch as another way to get her message across once she's familiar with someone and knows they don't mind that. She has a specific whistle for her horse since she can't do it naturally from her mouth anymore without some outside means, it took some time to train him to respond to it but she figured it out, which makes her pretty attached to her horse. The whistle is always on her person. She rarely uses it outside of that purpose unless it's an emergency situation where she needs to call attention to herself.

sharp-teeth-and-wide-grins (???)‌:
( ( Sean MacGuire; closed starter - to @robbedvoice ) )
Tumblr media
“Are ya okay? Are ya just not feeling well?” Sean noticed she hasn’t talked much- or at all when being with the gang. He didn’t know if she was there before he was brought back to the gang, if she was – then he might’ve been more forgetful than he originally thought. Sean was use to quiet, shy people but this one just never talked at all. At least people who were quiet, like Charles was, would mumble a word or two out at some point. This one didn’t, at all. His curiosity got the better of him and he felt like he should ask about it.
Tumblr media
In honesty, she wasn't sure what to make of this turn of events.
Settling into a gang again wasn't high on her list of things she wanted to do, considering that was what got her into this mess and her cousin an early death as it was. Still, they had safety, food, and they'd been...friendly enough. Esther knew that she wasn't exactly the easiest to pull information from, luckily she had been able to write some things down since at least Dutch and Hosea knew how to read. However, the rest were hard to communicate with outside of simple 'yes' and 'no' questions, and she didn't exactly know how to express herself in a clear way through gesture alone sometimes. She'd caught the lost and sometimes frustrated looks tossed her way sometimes. She was used to it.
So, as she lifted her head to be greeted with his questions, she had to fight back a sigh. Quickly, she shook her head. No, not sick. She felt fine, really—physically, at least.
After a few moments, Esther reached up and touched a hand against her mouth before making a slashing movement over her throat. Close enough.

rollingsnowsmasher (??‌?):
WANDERING EYES WOULDN’T TAKE LONG in noticing the forlorn figure from afar. And being the ever the curious one (If not admittedly nosy little thing) that she was, so would Itsuki commence her approach towards her. Careful and steady in each step that was taken, the child knew by now that it wasn’t wise to startle anyone around these parts (Especially ones with a GUN HOLSTER or two to their sides). As the other’s gaze would begin to raise and turn ever so slightly to where her shadow would touch the tip of other’s boot, so would she find herself offering a little wave. Watching as it of course did the same with the tiniest of smiles, as if two friendly souls were now greeting the sis in question.
“Hiya.” Short and sweet, it was a quick way to break the ice between them. With her young features expressing its usual warmth, the little girl would take proper gander at the other’s tired features, before eventually asking, “… ’S thar anythin’ ah can help ye wit’, sis?”
While Itsuki had to keep communications between her and others as simple as possible, it would only take a SPLIT SECOND to realize what the other had meant. Despite the SILENCE itself (That would certainly incur the young one’s brow to knit in brief concern), eyes were quick to light up as she took in the hand gestures that the other would make.
Tumblr media
“Ye must be starvin’!” And thirsty too, seeing as she was struggling to even speak. Simmering down after (For this wasn’t really something to get too excited over), the little one would take a moment to consider what options she had, before continuing on, “Ah jus’ got dees fer m’self, but–” She would search quickly into her little satchel, before pulling out a brand new tin of biscuits, “It’s awraht, ah was ‘bout ta head on out ta git some FISHIN’ done!”
Tumblr media
Some relief settled into her posture as the child across from her seemed to understand just what she was trying to communicate.
Really, she was starving. As chipper as the girl seemed to be, hearing that she was giving her something she had been saving for herself pulled lightly in Esther's chest, making her press her lips into a thin line for a few moments as she watched her pull a tin of biscuits from her satchel. Esther eyed it for a few moments before she reached out to take it from her, grasping it with both hands as she held it somewhat to her chest, giving her a grateful smile and a nod. Thank you. Considering how much longer it took her to get her point across, she was used to people just casting her odd looks before carrying on, but there were the few that actually tried to help.
This kid was on the right track, that was for sure.
Esther opened the tin after, glancing up from the food toward the girl as she said something about fishing. A small smile touched her face as an amused exhale left her, eating a biscuit before she glanced toward the nearby river. It seemed like she was in a good spot for it, not that she knew too much about fishing. Still, the girl seemed pretty excited about it. So, she pointed toward the water, glancing back at her with some interest. There?

    Who—who wasthis man?
Confusionsettled on her expression, her brow tightening as shestood beside her stressed out horse. His words were soothing, said with an accent that was a unfamiliar this far out, but notcompletely unfamiliar to her. Esther could recall her uncleand father having a touch of a similar lilt, but either she hadgotten used to it or it had faded with time. Still, with how far outthey were, she couldn’t help but move her hand to the holster on herhip at his sudden appearance.
Well, it seemedlogical that if he’d wanted to start something or harm her, he wouldhave done so already. This far out, it was unlikely anybody would beable to hear anything. Really, as much as she hated to do so, she’dlearned to just toss a couple coins and let them move on if someonewanted to cause problems. It worked. Sometimes. Her horse letout a loud snort behind her head, Esther’s attention moving to himfor a few moments as he kicked at the dirt slightly, letting out asigh through her nose.
Finally, she raisedthe hand that was touching her gun, fingers spread to show that shewas wasn’t looking to draw her weapon on him as she gave the strangera tight grin and a nod in acknowledgment. She’d have to take him athis word so she could make sure her horse didn’t take off or kick anyof them.

Character Development Questions: Hard Mode – still accepting
@bayouz
Not completely, most of her dreams are about random people and things that happened or that she thought would happen. However, there are a couple about travel that she has from time to time, especially if she’s been in a place for a while and she knows she will have to move on. Those dreams are mostly about her and her horse on winding trails and endless trees, worried about animals coming out at them and spooking her horse, or if she can’t find her way back out. Really, Esther does want to settle down, but she isn’t sure if that will be allowed of her in the near future. So, she feels that when things get comfortable, her mind likes to remind her that she shouldn’t be.

Character Development Questions: Hard Mode – still accepting
4. Has your character ever witnessed something that fundamentally changed them? If so, does anyone else know?
Yeah, a handful of things. Outside of the obvious with her cousin’s death and her tongue being removed, but she grew up in a family who had believed so hard that she would have been born into wealth. She’s seen the frustration that brought about in her parents, her father’s depression and anger, and her mother’s frustration over things not being how she had been promised, and it’s changed how she views money and her family in general. Also, all her family had watched her uncle wither away due to illness and the tension between him and Esther’s father in him wanting to leave what they were trying to salvage from the business they tried to build. Her cousin, once he had grown enough to realize such, had always been dead set on the idea that he would make an easier living away from the city and money problems. Esther had been sold on the idea of living off the land that he had talked about, but reality hit hard, especially after his death.
7. Does your character have recurring themes in their nightmares?
Really, her nightmares are just one specific one most of the time with slight variants from time to time. She often has nightmares reliving having her tongue removed, sometimes so vividly that she wakes up in pain, or it’s a vague feeling of hands grabbing at her face and hearing her cousin dying beside her. It’s one of the biggest reasons why she gets panic-y about people holding her down for any reason. Hot weather always triggers the nightmare so she often can’t sleep when it’s hot because that anxiety is in the back of her mind.
13. Is your character bothered by the sight of blood? If so, in what way?
Yeah, in a certain way. She’s fine with seeing it outside a body, hunting doesn’t upset her too much in regards to that, but if she can smell it in any way it makes her sick. It ties above in that she remembers the smell and the memories of trying to stop the bleeding in her mouth, so she often feels sick if she can smell it. She can’t taste too strongly anymore, but it’s always the idea of being able to that makes her ill.
18. Is your character more likely to admire wisdom, or ambition in others?
She’s a fan of both, though she’s seen how blinding ambition can be in some cases. Really, she’d admire more a person who has a wisdom to not get caught up in ambition to the point it becomes a problem. Her cousin lacked that wisdom and she figures that’s what got him killed in the end.

@rollingsnowsmasher
How many days had it been between jobs now?
Esther usually didn't mind the travelwhen she had a destination. Michael would have enjoyedthe roaming, he'd always had a hard time staying in one place, but inthe end that tendency left more problems than good memories at thispoint. Still, he was like her brother and travel was oftenlonely—there were times where she wished she just had someone.Granted, she feared she wouldn't make a great companionbut it was still something.
Once she had gotten close enough, shehad been quick to settle into the nearest town, though with only somuch in her pockets, she wasn't looking to stay for too long. Still, she was hungry. It was coming down to saving what she had, so findinggood food was hard to come by if she wasn't willing to hunt it.However, possessing such a skill was something she hadn't quite beentaught enough to survive on her own like that. With a heavy exhalethough her nose, she had plunked herself down on the nearest surface, pressing worn hands against her face as she tried to pull herthoughts together. This place was busy, but it didn't look like itoffered much for her after a good glance around. That meant moretravel, which set a bitter feeling her in stomach outside of the needfor food.
However, a voice broke her from herthoughts, Esther blinking tiredly toward the child that hadapproached. She certainly seemed friendly enough, though it seemedlike her parents weren't lingering by. Still, maybe she knewsomething that Esther didn't—it was worth a try. She idly wonderedif she should pull out her book, but that was a gamble on if someonecould even read what she was able to write and the answer wasmore 'no' than 'yes' recently.
    Her request seemed simple enough,anyway.
With a slight turn to face her on thestep she had sat on, she patted her stomach with one hand and touchedher mouth with her other, eyebrows raised in question.
    Food?

Due to the unfortunate inactivity of our old masterlist, I have decided to create a new one. Should the owner of rdrrpmasterlist return at some point and wish me to take down this masterlist, I will happily do so, however in the meantime I believe it would be beneficial for us as a community to have an up-to-date list that makes it easier to find partners.
If you are interested in being added, please REBLOG this post with the following tags:           *  name of your character.           *  canon or original character.           *  single muse or multimuse.
This masterlist will also list muses from other fandoms that have Red Dead Redemption verses available. Do feel free to request being added if you are one of them!
