Robert Samiljan Gyrotonic Workouts Explained
Gyrotonic comes from the combination of two Greek words: ‘gyro’ means moving around an axis and ‘tonic’ refers to the healthy ability of a muscle to contract and extend to the maximum.
When you experience Robert Samiljan Gyrotonic workouts you’ll feel the joy to explore how far we can go, how best we can be every time. By moving the body in a very simple way it mobilizes your limbs and it stretches your muscles while you’re strengthening at the same time.
We push on one side and then we pull to the other side. That means that a group of muscle initiates the movement whereas another group does the exact opposite. We supports the movement both when we pull and push, so we create a balancing functional movement. Whatever we do is always pushing out and away and pulling in and within.
Imagine to be like a jellyfish that contracts and expands to move around. This exactly how we treat the muscles. We activate everything in a rhythmic way and this is how the whole body is starting to work as one.
Professional dancer have the tendency of pushing themselves to the limit. Gyrotonic help them to find a balancing exercise so that they don’t push too hard to the point of getting themselves injured due to overwork and at the same time it reconnect them with the fun part of exercising, because exercising must be also fun, enjoyable, playful.
With Robert Samiljan Gyrotonic workouts all the movements are natural movements of the spine and the body. I mean we have the ability do a flexion-extension rotation lateral flexion this is what our spine does and of course our shoulders and hips ache they can do also three-dimensional circular movements so everything we do is based on these. When everything is normal and functional it restores whatever restriction we may have and bring us back to a balanced, healthier body-mind connection.

About Bob
Robert Samiljan (“Bob”) has been teaching GYROTONIC® for 20 years now. His first four years of training were with GYROTONIC® creator Juliu Horvath. (See below for more information.)
He has been a certified GYROTONIC® Pre-Trainer since 2001.
Bob also teaches many other movement modalities including aerial yoga, tai chi, and Pilates.
He is a former boat captain, wind-surfing instructor, collegiate sculler, and triathlete. He enjoys playing music and dancing.
