Hatohara Robato 【鳩原呂羽人】

As a first post to this blog, let me introduce the main character, Hatohara Robato, or simply known as “Robo”. He is the eccentric main character of this new series by Fujimaki Tadatoshi – a golf sports manga.
Unlike standardized naming conventions in Kuroko no Basket (e.g. Generation of Miracles - colors, Seirin second years - days of the week, Uncrowned Kings - plants and landforms), only a subtle naming convention was found – and that is, birds.
Analyzing his name:
鳩 hato = dove 原 hara = field, meadow, original 呂羽人 robato = merely a phonologically-similar term to robot, but: 呂 ro = spine, backbone 羽 ha (ba) = feathers 人 to = person Also note that 羽人 alonecan be pronounced as hato, which is, once again, a dove.
Protagonists with double of the same meaning isn’t uncommon, like the Uzumaki Naruto, whose name is just double-whirlwind.
Well, spoiling the other names that fall in the bird naming convention: Miura Youzan - hawk Suzaku Kyousuke - sparrow Karasuma Souta - crow
But let’s save that for separate posts.

will do a summary, might be shorter than my intention but it’s all right as long as y’all get the gist (or add to it) bc im really not supposed to be doing this rn lmao
@onebulb maybe if this wasn’t makki, but i dont think he processes that sort of theme (at all) when he writes his stories. it’s all about cohesion/teamwork and excelling at what each individual does best bc he even placed furi in a match against akashi and demonstrated what furi with his own set of strengths could prove against the emperor. it’s never been anything as straightforward as to simply taking the stronger/weaker-skilled player when it comes to determining the winner/achiever according to makki (in this case “strong enough” to be an “exemplary player” for tomo)
i dont think this kind of idea or concept has ever crossed makki’s thoughts tbh and neither do i think tomoya himself is thinking this which can be enforced by my meta on him later on
i personally think it’s important to remember makki’s characs all carry charisma with them. it’s hard to explain but stuff like riko and kiyoshi being exes, rion’s offhanded teasing and prediction of what another one of makki’s sports jerks was expecting him to do (this is a mood where anybody might frown upon the presence of unethical behavior but far from being upset or offended or even finding it fun, rion just finds this difference in character substance mildly amusing bc he is - they all are - operating on a completely diff level all together)
the only reason rion is able to find this amusing is bc he has class and is therefore able to tell the difference when somebody does not, it’s just one reaction but told so much about him
bc if tomoya isn’t good enough to be a great player i think we have to talk about kuroko first. i really do. both manga tell of aspiring national and world-level players in spite of kuroko’s personal goal. it’s probably just aomine and kagami who will make it out to the world if we’re referring to knb (as i mentioned, a strong player may not make a great player for a variety of reasons and consider if they even harbor intentions for becoming a player, lots of real life situations at work here such as kise’s mindset or akashi’s family background)
my point is this isn’t makki’s point, the looming disappointment of a player who wasn’t skilled enough. be they strong or weak players, nobody sets their goal to be “the strongest player in the world!” and work stupidly towards just triumphing everybody in his stories (aomine was depressed as a result of his streak, dude was winning)
maybe im just reading too much into the structure of your words bc i wont have any idea about the intention or direction you were asking this for w/o further elaboration, but from what i know to be “good or not good enough” for something proves you’re struggling to meet a standard and that’s the thing, “standards” or qualifications do not exist in makki’s universes. there is no magical or golden standard that’d show the divide between approved and unapproved players other than paper rules. trying to decide world champion? what if a newbie wins against the reigning champion, several times, but struggles to survive their amateur games?
but if we’re talking about tomoya’s definite lack of skills (to an extent observable by paper rules) in regards to turning pro, makki isnt an author who writes about lamentable ppl either (aside from his all-time fav sports minions who have more of a mindset than personality issue)
bc seriously when you think about it, who else do you owe not being naturally skilled enough to? yourself right? you’re the one who’s holding these aspirations and you’re the one who’s also not skilled enough. so are you gonna start blaming yourself and wallowing in self-pity? this might sound harsh bc it’s not like they chose to be born without skills and their love for the sport is every bit genuine, but it’s where the difference between “employing your time to something useful/useless from then on” comes in, bc nobody, not you, not the naturally gifted players, are able to change the facts of their or your birth and it’s probably also important to choose the right things to grieve over? nobody’s just gonna hope they were lucky enough to be born gifted bc i dont think a single player who understands sport, even those blaming themselves, wld ever get this pathetic
and for makki’s characs, they’re strong enough that even shld they be disappointed, i highly doubt wallowing in self-pity, no matter how little, wld be included in their steps at all. it’s just not something they’re inclined to do.
so this has gotten lengthy and i have a ton of misc. thoughts left floating in there as usual but i think this shld be enough for a reply? otherwise im just gonna derail from one point to another or y’all can add on to what you found interesting/want to supplement/ask or discuss about
if not we’ll finally have our tomoya meta up when i’ll be free?? next
y’all bored? do you want a meta post on tomoya?
