Week 12+++ Concept art/panning
For the concept art section of the assignment, we had to create a panning version of our existing animation and creation from the museum trip. Using that as a based, I had created an entirely different illustration you see here.
Using a bird eye view perspective, the panning will work from left to right across the screen, using the camera show the ground, the bins, the paper on the floor and so on.
The orange hue of the ground, the wall and simplistic colour of everything else give off this cartoonish kind of vibe to it, which I think works quite well here. The shadows has this depth of field that illustrates as nicely done detail across the canvas.

Week 12+++ Observation blog

For the observation drawings we did it inside one of the ruskin classrooms, focusing on the movement and perspective of the person.
From using charcoal to pencil, fineliner and however we see fit. I quite love the use of the charcoals specially as it really created that sense of control that allowed for further detail and freedom to the drawings themselves.
Next time, I should use more variety to the observation drawings, like technique and materials. Overall, I have more control and detail in comparison to the skills I had in the past.
Using the black and white to enhance the focus of the people in it.

Trimester 2 Week 12 - Gifs moodboard extra

I wanted to look at shipwrecks that's would reference my first GIF animations. As the shipwreck is an important part of it.
The mermaid goes jumps up the ocean water, seeing the shipwreck. This compares and creates an ironic feeling, that the mermaid is happily resurfacing, all the while a shipwreck is in the background. Foreshadowing the reality and dangerous nature of the surface, in comparison to the characters home, the ocean floor.

Trimester 2 Week 12 - tone/colour studies audio portrait animation

Some tone/colour studies, using water colour which I quite like, as it really allowed me to experiment with the blend of the colours you see here.
Although, in future I could make the drawings more detailed, using fine liner to bring the characters too life more. With the water colouring.

Trimester 2 Week 12 - 3D character colouring

Colouring the 3D Character was quite fun and appealing, as it allowed freedom to really bring out the characters. Using green and grey as I thought this would match the sorcerer/witch kind of feel to it. Also, with the use of the green it's far more associated with witches.

I enjoyed creating this concept design of my 3D character, as you can see the colours like green and grey reflects the theme of the character being a witch/elf humanoid like person.
To improve this, the colours could be more blended together. Loving the outlines as it gives this looseness to the character in my opinion, that brings the character some life and movement to it. Is isn't stiff.

Trimester 2 Week 9 - storyboard (in depth improvement)

I went further into the storyboard stage, and created one, provided with more details and notes. Focusing more on the plants and characters closeness to the frames, as my teachers pointed out the character takes less portion of the screen which has a lot of space to be filled out. As well for the plants/flowers to be focused more too. As the theme is food.

Trimester 2 Week 8 - 3d character continuation character creation

Furthermore, I tried my best to replicate the design of the character and I think this went quite well, pointing out my lack of knowledge and skill to using MAYA. It's not my best and likeable style of drawing/sculpting designs.
However, sing the tool provided, I was able to add this boxes and optimising the scaling, the curves for the clothing to replicate it as close as the reference as you see behind my character.
Perhaps, the use of in-cloth tool to make the clothing more flexible and less blocky but more clothing like.

Trimester 2 Week 8 - 3d character designs, research moodboards, mindmap, sketches, initial 3D character foundation creation of the character in Maya

Researching elves and feminine game/cartoonish characters as references, I tried to experimenting with diverse character designs, in hopes to really capture this wizard elf hybrid design. Which would have this elegant and high end personality and style of clothing.
However, with MAYA this was quite difficult to replicate, as I think I will need a lot more practice and understanding to sculpt character. As the character here is far more stiff looking and less reflective to what it's shown on the sketches.

Trimester 2 Week 8 - My pitch, storyboard, character designs, moodboard

For my pitch for the live project I went for a far more simpler layout and how the animation starts to show the garden as a person picks some plants and fruits, than hands in the camera move back into the house, from where the animation starts. Hearing people conversing, as the animation company with music that really adds that upbeat happy vibe to the overall animation.

Trimester 2 Week 5 - extra work

I took some images from 'Wish' The animated movie as reference. Using this as my art style I want to go for.
I quite like the soft warmer hues it has, giving it more of a painterly design to it. However, I should add more details and texture on the backgrounds as it's lacking detail overall.

Trimester 2 Week 5 - initial research, my GIF story, sketches (environment and character designs

I did some quick sketches and ideas for the character and background. Using Arial from ' The little mermaid' as reference. The story for the three GIFS I was thinking having the character swimming up from the bottom of the water upwards to the surface, as the story goes from cheerful to something dark. With a better sweet ending, where the character is unconscious on the beach desert.

Trimester 2 Week 4- 3 panels fully renders

For CGI I created a stylized concept designs from the panels I used as reference based on.
You cna see the looseness of the designs, the warmer hues blends well with the character. Using orange and blue which I think contrast with one another quite well. Utilising the tones of the colours.
Also, I love the use of the smooth tool I used from 'Krita' as this allowed me to blend the colours together. Adding on, giving the sense of watercolour painterly illusion on the visuals.

Trimester 2 Week 4- storyboards

This week I had to create a story oard for an animatic and I went for an afternoon vibe using a lot of orange, yellow and some red to convey the atmosphere.
I would've wanted to improve upon this a lot more in future works, going over it again with more cleaner, smoother, and precise lineart. But, keeping the looseness and expressiveness of the designs, to complement the expressions and movement of the characters.
