Marina Kopel: The Unsolved Mystery Murder, 30 Years Later
Tumblr media
Marina Kopel
The bloody toe mark, the hair stuck in the ring, and the murder remained a mystery for 30 years.
Tumblr media
A London man has been convicted of a 30-year-old murder and has been identified by a bloody toe mark. A hair stuck in a ring. In August 1994, 39-year-old Marina Kopel was found dead by her husband in a flat in central London. He was stabbed 140 times. The court learned that 51-year-old Sandeep Patel became a suspect in the murder in 2022 when his DNA was matched to a hair found in 2008. He denied the charge of murder at the time but was later convicted by a jury. Earlier in the case, the court was also told that the toe print of Patel, from North London, matched a bloody toe print found at the scene. The jury was told that his DNA also matched a hair found in 2008 by a forensics official on a ring on Coppell's finger. The court was told Coppell had two children who lived in a home in his native Colombia and rented a flat in London as she worked as a masseuse. The jury was told that her husband, who himself lived in Northampton, 'didn't think well' of her work but she 'accepted' it.

Her husband drove to the flat because his wife was unresponsive and found her body late at night on the floor in their bedroom. Where she was meeting clients. The jury was told there was blood 'everywhere'. Koppel's husband died in 2005 and he never found out who killed his wife. Coppell's sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary and Martin paid tribute to her then, saying she was 'a very bright, intelligent and influential person who found the good in everyone she met.'
Tumblr media
He said, ' Her family and friends would be pleased if she were alive today.' "Our sympathies go out to Marina and her family and we hope they find peace after today's verdict," police officer Catherine Godwin paid tribute. "Although Patel has been convicted today, we may never know the reasons behind his actions that day." Dean Chester, head of the Met Police's forensics department, said: "Unsolved murder cases are very difficult for the police. "But today's verdict proves that forensic science, new technology, and working together can have a positive impact and bring a killer to justice." The jury deliberated for three hours and 10 minutes and found Bhar Patel guilty. Read the full article
