Submissions are now closed! I'd have left them open for the rest of the day but it looks like they stopped about halfway through the month so.
I'll get to work organizing those tomorrow or Tuesday; I have a headache today so Idk if I'm going to do anything other than lay down under my fan and hope it gets better. As I said last night, no promises on how long this will take because I need to vet every answer first, but I'll keep y'all updated while I work.
See you around o7

There’s a part of me that wants to submit ART and murderbot but an even larger part is going “murderbot is in no way a fleshbag, and it would resent the implication that it is in any way human. It would go against both the spirit of the tournament and the themes of the book”
Anyways, good luck with sorting through the submissions! I look forwards to the start of the tournament and I hope you have fun
If it helps, there is at least one Murderbot submission, though I cannot remember who the other character is or the context thereof.
Anyway, thanks! Submissions close tomorrow and then I've got to sort and vet them, so no idea how long that's going to take (especially as I am currently hyperfixating on my original work which is going to slow me down) but hopefully everyone can still have fun if they have to wait around for a bit :)

Admittedly only some of those actually qualify under the "positive or neutral" rule...
I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little surprised how few RvB submissions I've got, given how many robots/ai there are in that show and how I have a chunk of my following from that fandom
#the meta may or may not count as a duo depending on where you fall on the 'they're all the same person' divide#but that relationship sure as goddamn doesn't count as positive or neutral

Can we send a group of robots? There's like a robot boy band in No Straight Roads but I don't know if that would be okay.
1 robot + 1 meatbag, potentially +1 third wheel if I agree to do trios (we're currently leaning in that direction, since I've been submitted several good ones)
I'm sorry, I know this seems unfair, but there are twofold reasons for this: 1, the more characters there are the more work there is for me- even with trios, I intend to be very picky with which ones I allow, and 2, it doesn't feel fair to me. If you have five characters vs two, that's five fanbases against two, which tips the scales. It's why I'm on the fence about trios even, and why I'm not doing tiesweeps in this bracket.
There is also that this is specifically about the relationships between robots and non-robots. As when I did Artificial Kids, I'm doing this because if there's one thing I love in fiction, it's a robot (or any other artificially created character) who has a best friend who is also Other in some way, and they find belonging in each other. While I am certainly not against bonds between robots, or robots having multiple meatbags or meatbags being friends with multiple robots, the point is that this is not specifically about robots, but about the relationships between robots and living people (or nonliving- still got my fingers crossed for someone to submit a robot + a ghost). Just because it's called the robot riot, don't discount the equally important meatbags on the team.

Concept: a woman is holding hands with a robot, and the woman is wearing a shirt that says "I like my women like I like my keyboards" on the front and "mechanical" on the back, over an exploded view of a cherry mx brown keyswitch.
The robot's shirt says "flesh lover" in the old recaptcha distorted text style. The back has "select all the squares with the cutest girl" and a 3x3 montage of photos of the woman currently holding her right hand.

Can a cyborg count as both the robot and the meatbag?
Already covered
Cyborgs are meatbags, because a person doesn't stop being human (or expanding for the sake of fiction, whatever they started as) just because they get some prosthetic parts. Even if they get a LOT of prosthetic parts. Even if more than half of their body is prosthetic parts. They're still human (or whatever they started as). To run a cyborg as a robot would go against some very specific opinions I have about cyborgs vs robots in fiction.

No offense and this is a genuine question but why no critical role? I only know a little about it but what I’ve seen doesn’t seem bad? Sorry I’m just curious because I haven’t seen it banned from other tournaments.
Already answered
It's not banned from other tournaments because other people have different relationships to it than I do, but I would be genuinely upset if a CR character won any of my tournaments, and I won't run anything I can't make peace with a victory

It is very funny to me that the currently most submitted entry was disqualified from the planning stage because half of the duo is in one of my auto entries with another character

If a character has an organic body, but a computer brain, would they still qualify for the robot half of the duo?
Oh. Hmm. That's a tough one. 🤔
This one will have to go to the judges I think. I'm working today (and expecting a visit from my boss so I have to be on my best behavior = staying off my phone) so I won't be able to run it by the group chat for a bit, so for now I'll say submit it, specify the details of the character and history, and when I get time I'll see what I come up with.

Campaigning for Nick Valentine in advance. Bethesda are cowards for not putting a romance route in the game for him, the romance mod hardly changes anything but now you can kiss that toaster grandpa. Why would you make him flirt with the Sole Survivor if you can't even kiss him in the base game you MONSTERS.
This is either a rant you have memorized and ready to go at any point or you just copy pasted it from your submission some of this is word for word
#no judgment i have a few rants like that we are all kin here#i just thought it was funny#'wait i've read this before'#even funnier if that wasn't your submission because then it's secret option b and the fandom has one thing they're REALLY in agreement abou#propaganda

If it's not too much work could you maybe do multiple tournaments? Like the most enthusiastic submitted characters go first, run that tournament, then another with the less rambled about guys
The bracket will be split into two halves, one based on numbers and one based on enthusiasm, with the final being between the winners of those two halves. I have too many bracket ideas on the board to do two back to back for the same blog.
#emcee ruling#though i don't have a lot of multiple submissions if we're being honest so i may not actually be able to do that

so happy that I put something in the infodump now, even if it wasn't the most coherent of things
So am I! Even an incoherent infodump tells me that you care enough to want it to get in.
And, like, this isn't to say that a completely blank entry won't get in at all. Just the only thing they can contribute to is numbers- so, for example, if I get two completely blank entries for Bender and Fry and then one with a good infodump, well, that's three submissions (a good number of people want this duo entered) and one person who has been enthusiastic (at least one person REALLY cares about this duo specifically). But if that third person didn't do an infodump, they might have been passed over in favor of something that only got two submissions but both of them were really enthusiastic.
It's going to be really, really hard for me to narrow this number down to whatever number I decide on, so what will help me decide is knowing who took the time to make their case, vs who did a quickie or a driveby.
#i get so sad when characters with really passionate but small fanbases lose to big popular characters because everyone knows them#so i want to even things out a little bit#OH and if you're worried about the strength of your infodump or didn't do one or whatever don't worry!#you can also campaign!#these things don't start and end at submission#emcee ruling
