sometimes i wonder if this hellsite is why my humor is so fucked then i remember when i was in third grade i wrote an evil character and named him “traitor joe”

“Really? Gosh, I’ve never exactly been invited anywhere I’m always so busy. let alone a movie! I’d be glad to join you two!- but what’s a B movie? I’ve only seen a few movies in my time since not much of our technology works anymore.”

crow eagerly heads over to the mixing bowl, holding the eggs close to his chest. He looked e l a t e d.

“So how do I do it? Can I smash em?”

"Uhh... Colin? Servo and I have got a bit of a... Problem." Crow, now human, awkwardly scratches the back of his neck. "its me, crow, just with more.... Fleshy bits."

Colin’s eyes widen in shock. How was it possible for his robot friend’s to turn human? He needed to process it later as he walked forward towards Crow.

“C-crow? Is that really you? How did you and Servo turn human? Do you feel alright?” He asked tilting his head.

Colin felt a hint of panic in his gut. He does care about his friends and he wouldn’t want nothing bad to happen.

MST3K Fanfic Rec List

In honor of Fanfiction Writer Appreciation Day, here are some of my favorite MST3K fics! Some of these fics are dating back to the 90′s so prepare for some nostalgia there. The ones I’m recommending are all Gen fics, but I know there are some fantastic ship fics out there as well.

Mystery Scribble Theater Mondays by @mysteryscribbletheater3000 (aka @smittygirl): A fun ongoing fan comic that details what happened during those two months between Jonah’s capture and Reptilicus. Jonah is an absolute dork, the bots are all wonderfully in character and the nods to the earlier seasons are great. If you’ve gotten into the series through the most recent season, I would highly recommend this one.

Invasion and Practical Solutions by FeelingCreature (aka @peteyplane) and NoShayminTrying (Practical Solutions only): An insightful look into Mike and Crow’s friendship during and after one of the darkest days on the SOL: the viewing of Invasion of the Neptune Men. These two fics explore how hurtling through space and time while also being subjected to awful movies can wreck havok on the mind. (tw: suicidal thoughts and possible insanity)

Also highly recommend Manifest Content by FeelingCreature as it’s referenced in PS and it’s really darn adorable too.

Schematics by NoShayminTrying: A KTMA-era fic with Joel and Crow, this one may be the fluffiest fic on this whole list. Features plenty of good bonding moments between a bot and his shaggy-haired inventor and a decent explanation for how the bots came to have such unique personalities.

Research Grant Proposal by dark_roast: Had to include at least one fic about the Mads. This one gets points for its unique format: it is literally the grant proposal Dr. Forrester submitted to Gizmonics Institute for the Mystery Science Theater experiment and it’s every bit as insane as you’d think.

A Good Egg but a Little Scrambled by Unleashed111 (aka @unleashedart): An interesting what-if? scenario wherein Mike develops epilepsy due to the conk to the noggin he received before being sent up to the Satellite. A bit scary at times due to the bots having very little experience dealing with medical issues but when mixed with some very cute moments and a good comic PSA, this fic works really well. (tw: little bit of blood and vomit)

Monster Movie by Paula O’Keefe: Reaching back into the archives for this one, this fic serves as a sequel to Fire Maidens from Outer Space and the Timmy/Dark Crow storyline from that episode. This one had me actively crying, it prompted so many emotions for everyone. Everyone is so well written and I just really love this one so much.

…And Other Science Facts by Lisa Jenkins: Reaching even further back into the archives (1996!), this unfinished fic presents Joel’s first few days up on the Satellite of Love. We don’t get to see the creation of Tom and Crow but the author’s interpretation of the creation of Cambot and Gypsy are so spot-on, I 100% headcanon it as what happened.

If You’re Wondering How He Eats… by Paycheckgurl (aka @horselover107): A work that spans all three eras, this funny fic addresses that old pressing question: what does the crew eat up when they’re up in space? or down on Earth for that matter?

Musings on a Satellite by Kataoi: Great introspective piece on Mike Nelson and also features the unusual friendship of Mike and Cambot. One of my favorite Mike-era fics honestly.

Evolving Tradition by SLWalker: A sweet little Christmas piece, Joel tries to start a family tradition of reading “The Night Before Christmas” to the Bots every Christmas. Riffing (and heartwarming moments) ensue.

And I am sure I’m missing a lot of fantastic works because this show is almost 30 years old and that is a lot of fanfic to catch up on! So if you know a recent work that was uploaded on Wattpad or remember a fic you saw published back when Mike first came onto the show, go back and re-read those fics! Let those writers, both new and old, know they are so appreciated in this little fandom of robots and riffing.
