As much of a hack and just generally unpleasant individual Ken Penders can be… do you think certain people in the fandom take the hate a little far? At certain points it can feel very excessive the way people talk about the guy. It feels like people can’t really be normal about him or his work, your one of the rare exceptions it feels like

Oh 100%. I've done a lot to distance this blog from its image as a pure Penders drama blog in spite of the URL I swear I originally chose as a joke, and I'm only talking about him again right now because the book is out. (And also because the claim that he can reprint all of Archie Sonic, even Ian's run, is just... SO cartoonishly evil for a guy who's claimed to be a champion of comic creators' rights.)

But people REALLY play up their hatred of the guy. It's a meme at this point. Any time any goofy out of context thing from Archie Sonic gets posted people are like "ugh, Penders!" People love to argue with him endlessly on Twitter and spam his replies with random images and brag about getting blocked like it's a badge of honor. People talk about how he should be in jail, about how he "looks like a pedophile," about how much they want Sega to sue him into destitution. Fans misremember basic facts of the lawsuit to make Archie out to be totally innocent, and then no one wants to do basic fact checking because who cares, right? It's very tiring.

There's a reason why I don't follow him on Twitter, don't interact with him directly, ignored his agent's request to interview him directly, don't post updates on every little thing he tweets, and focus on his creative work and the legal drama instead of digging into his personal life, only bringing him up when there's actually news. At a certain point it stops being criticism of him as an artist and a copyright troll and just devolves into gross lolcow shit.

the mecha madness arc was incredible. one of the few archie stories i was already familiar with, as i had read archives volume 10 growing up, but it’s easily my favorite part of the comic up to this point!

great characterization of the freedom fighters with sally getting to show her strengths as a leader making tough decisions, and bunnie was easily another highlight. got to fight against mecha sonic with her robot abilities and proving to be a crucial part of the team, slowly becoming one of my favorite characters tbh…

loved the tone of this arc, with it having more of a longer and more serious story, while also still keeping in line with the tone of sonic the hedgehog! the art’s really great too, some of the most dynamic poses and action scenes in the whole comic so far :) i was so lucky to have seen this as a kid as my introduction to archie sonic. the following story, court martial actually continued the story too? this is what i loved about some of the IDW stuff, with events leading into one another. hope the archie run continues with this!

bunnie and antoine had their first cute story in #23, they’re finally starting to flesh out the characters a bit and i’m totally here for it. robotnik is sufficiently evil and had a pretty badass moment, tails is being characterized more as a kid instead of just being an inconsistent background character, and sally is already the most interesting so far. that miniseries did great in establishing her capability as a fighter, as well as her actual leadership skills which he hadn’t really shown until then. still not a fan of rotor though and sonic doesn’t have much going on either compared to the rest at this point. i’m finally enjoying this again!! need to see more of bunnie though she’s cool but hasn’t gotten much time to shine yet

reading the archie sonic comic has been a bit agonizing after the first three issues but finally in #20 hints of plot have started finally started to develop and i couldn’t be happier. the gags were cute but they were starting to get a little annoying, especially since the stories never really went anywhere either. robotnik also feels so much like the adventures of sonic the hedgehog incarnation despite having taken over already like in satam?? but yeah there’s only so many pop culture parodies and forced puns i can take :/ i can’t wait for this book to really get serious. sad that the endgame arc is still so far off. excited to read the sally miniseries though, high hopes for that since they just started laying some groundwork for her role as the princess having some significance!
