Anti-vax... The new crazy?

We have all been there, talking to someone that regardless of sound fact, reason or otherwise will never back down from an argument. Someone that is so lost in their convictions that they feel the need to impress them upon everyone within ear shot. Right wing, left wing, Sanders supporters, Trump supporters... They all have a place reserved in the loony bin for their 10% of loud assholes who shout without thinking first. I’m not here to berate anyone about bout their political beliefs, that is not the kind of guy I am. I’m here to berate an entirely different group of people, and not necessarily just anti-vax people... I’m here to berate people who... change the facts and set rules to their own arguments.   We were all young once, obviously, and in that time would would make friends and play games. But sometimes we would run into little johnny son of a bitch who just had to win an argument or a game. They would set rules that will ensure them an automatic victory and lord them over you. How does this equate to today’s anti-vax argument? let’s take a look at a very distilled down argument... Vaxer: I’m taking my kids to be vax’d on wensday 

Anti-vaxer: Vaxing causes autism and poor fuel mileage, you should never vax your kids! Vaxer: I have done research and I do not believe this is true. Anti-vax: It is to true! This website filled with boner pill ads and endless spam site traps sites real studies!  Vaxer: Those sites are bunk! They cherry pick data and drive a false narrative. Anti-vax: Oh really? Where do you get this information from? Vaxer: Studying the actual results of the study, researching the guidelines of the criteria they used. Anti-vaxer: Well... vaccines contain MERCURY!  And a whole host of other chemicals that are BAD! Vaxer: Those BAD chemicals are safe in the chemical compositions in which they are placed in the vaccine. Mercury absorption rates vary wildly dependent on what form they are in. Anti-vax: And where did you get this information? Vaxer: In high school and by not sleeping through chemistry class... Anti- vaxer: Ha! I knew it! Government funded education! They taught you what they want you to think!  See, no matter what you say to people like this, they will just change the rules and refuse logic as if it were a fuming bowl of mercury salts. Despite the fact that we have advanced so much in life on the planet due to science, people will bend and break it to their will to feel validated. Holy are those who truly find pleasure in the facts and having the willingness to stand up to people like that. If you were to push the thread of the anti-vax argument and truly debunk everything they ever said with solid fact, some would still change their narrative. They would claim that you are brain washed and that you are yourself unwilling to see reason.  To people like that, there are no facts. Only right and wrong. They are willing to believe in something so preposterous as a global conspiracy to be right. Big companies do their far share of evil, we all know this, but they also do a lot of good. But to some people, they are unwilling to see any good if they are searching for evil and vice-versa. But for someone in the anti-vax camp, and ounce of evil will out weight a metric ton of good.

 Big pharma did some shady things and to them they are therefore evil. That makes anything they have to say wrong regardless of fact. If a scientific study comes out and proves vaccines to be in a good light... They are evil because they 1. Do not fit the narrative and 2. once took money to fudge a study. Never mind that it was not them that took the money, some group somewhere, doing the same line of work they are doing did it, therefore everything they say is suspect. Even if they have a flawless track record, even if they support some of their movement. Nope! it’s all or nothing baby! This kind of mentality has got to come to an end! Self validation is now causing mass hysteria and stupidity. Not ignorance, stupidity. I firmly believe in this day and age, where you can watch a youtube video and build a house to code, ignorance is no excuse! Q: Why does the government and vaccine companies have millions set aside for ‘in the event of’?  A: The first check you write is for the home the second is for the insurance... it would be daft to think everything in this world went perfectly all the time. one slip, one accident and millions are effected. Vaccines are a medical product. Even if they did not have insurance set aside for something to happen, then people would site that the program is too dangerous because of it. That argument has been cropping up lately and I felt the need to site it here and now.  So in closing, people want things to be cut and dry, on and off, black and white. our brains crave answers, so much so that our brains will reason things to the best of our ability to what it wants to see. Validation is a hell of a thing and we crave it like water in the Sahara, the two go hand in hand. When we reason to ourselves that we have the right information, we are validated and when someone tries to prove us wrong, we fight back to continue on our dopamine fueled ride of stupidity.  Listen to both sides, use your brain objectively.

Why you should NOT sign the season 10 petition

Hi, Rocco here bringing you an unpopular opinion to a popular problem. Season 9 of My Little Pony is set to be the final season in the FiM line up of the show. I have seen over the former days many people's opinions about the matter. Some sad and some utterly depressed. This has come as a shock to me for a few reasons. 1. I have been a brony for over 7 years now, so you could say that I have been around the block and am a veteran to the 'omg the fandom is over' type stuff. 2. This was announced AGES ago that the show would end after 9 seasons. One back in 2016 at Bronycon when they said they had ground work out to the end of the show (9 seasons total) and again by Hasbro themselves, last year. But what about the meat of all of this, what about why you should not sign the petition? That's easy. Passion. Passion for this show is what brought us all together, our undying love for the characters, plot-lines, the art it has spawned in various forms and the family like bond we share. Passion is also why you should not sign the petition. All great shows have a defiant beginning and end as do all great stories. Do you really want to see something you truly love stagnate? Do you want to see something this great with the potential to bring about the catharsis you truly need for a amazing, possibly greatest of all time stories watered down by more seasons? Or... Do you want to see this trough, do you want this beautiful show see its natural conclusion and bring you that catharsis that something like even the Simpsons could never do. Think about it, shows like Futurama were rebooted and brought to a end with an amazing story arc. Shows like Breaking bad, House and Justified all told you a story from beginning to end and ended beautifully! Because of that, they will go down in history as shows that will live on forever based off nothing more than the fans passion for the show. I can't help but be reminded of our own fan works. Fallout: Equestria, for example... Stay with me, I know what you are thinking... A story nearly 800k words long, but ended so beautifully that it made you stare at a wall for an hour, contemplating what everything meant to you. Because of that, I will never forget that story, because of that catharsis, I have changed as a person and as a brony. Yes, FoE had spin offs, some of them so great that they too lead to ends that changed me... Project Horizons broke me down and built me back up over and over again to the point of tears... more than once. But the ended to it all was so monumental, so perfect, so heart breathtakingly beautiful that it actually stays with me to this day. Nothing that drags on is ever good. Nothing that drags on for too many seasons beyond the creators visions of a plot line can bring about that level of heart shaking catharsis! I'm 32 years old, I have seen this happen too many times to great shows and stories. From the bottom of my heart, please reconsider signing this petition. Let them finish their story, let them show us how this all ends and I promise you that you will be so happy with it that you carry this on for the rest of your lives. In closing. This fandom will not die from the end of a show, this fandom does not need a show! It needs people with a common love. Leaving the fandom because the show ended is like stopping loving someone because they died. And just like with love, it takes effort to make it work. We are a fandom with sites dedicated with hundreds of thousands of fan created works, if not millions! Everyday I open my Facebook feed to ponies, memes, art, stories and more, none of which need a show to continue. So, please, let the show end with grace. Rocco Rocks.

PEOPLE I DEAL WITH AT WORK

It should come as no surprise that, I, Like many others have a job. Yes the dreaded 3 letter word that signifies that a large chunk of my life is dedicated to exchanging time and effort for cold, hard, taxed money.  As many others do, I work with the public. YES that group of lovable assholes, and with them comes the normal issues of dealing with humans in customer service.  But what I had no clue would happen to me is just how nit-fucking-picky I would become in doing so. Things that used to not bother me at all now piss me off, like legit piss me off long after that have left the building. I now completely understand those Russian dashcam videos.  When you are pushed past your limit abruptly, you act out abruptly. but when you are needled and taxed and slowly driven insane by someone who insists on making mouth noises to fill the vocal void... You tend to grow an irrational hatred for them in every possible way. Things that were common place in life become life and death struggles to abstain from crime of passion or just straight up premeditated murder.     Crazy? Maybe, retail can do that to a healthy person. Insane? hardly at all. Basically what it boils down to is having your time wasted or robbed from you by someone else. Time you were using to relax a bit before your next task in life, time that could be used to do your damn job.  Here is an example... You are at work, say a vape shop, and you are asshole deep in customers. It’s Friday and you have another 4 hours before you can leave for the day. you have 3 people looking to quit smoking, 2 more sampling product, 2 more just looking at random crap in the store and you are flying solo for the evening.  Someone walks in with an issue that could have been easily solved with a short google search or, god forbid, they had read the god damn manual. The person interrupts your best sales pitch to tell you “Hey, can I get some service!?” and talks over customers and yourself, despite telling them that you would be right with them.  They then proceed to say “Hey, YOU sold me this and it does not work! i want my money back!”. You then gently inform them that you would like to inspect the device first to insure that it is truly broken and not a case of customer retardation. They become hostile and accuse you and accusing them of being an idiot.  You then take the device, press the firing button 5 times and the device turns on and operates as normal. This further enrages them as they say “it wouldn’t do that earlier! This is broken!” You then ask them to leave the device with you so you can give it a through testing prior to refunding their money.  At this point the ‘let me see your manager’ hair is in full comb over mod. They are filled with rage and stupidity. they usually will say something like “Look buddy, I just want a refund, is that too hard for you, or do you need to get your manager?” in the most condescending tone possible.  You then inform them that your return policy does not cover remorse and that it only covers factory defected merchandise that has been thoroughly tested by a tech... also that the manager has fucked off for the day. By this point, I, being as cautious as possible, become more and more of a dick.  There will be a back and forth while you argue your case that it was only far that if they breach contract as a buyer that you explore every possible avenue to insure that your ass will not be grass if the device is fine. But they don’t care, they only care about themselves and when the next football game will be on. They can’t wait to go and brag about how they screwed the place over and got their money back. Personally, I see this as a challenge and refuse them the satisfaction.  By the point that they figure out that they can not get anywhere with you, they will confide themselves to repeating themselves over and over again until they get really pissed. “So, no refund? No service? I will never shop here again.” My usual response to that comment is and always will be “No sir, no refunds on devices that are in perfect working order. I feel that I have served you more that well enough to suffice your issue, but I agree with you, I wouldn’t shop here again either. Feel free to do business else where.”  Now let me tell you what I really mean... “Fuck you, fuck you, fuck off.” But never the less, they will stand before you, look around the shop and repeat “ok” several times before finally sucking their teeth.  Now... up until that point, that fucking teeth sucking point, this human had failed to in the slightest piss me off. I have worked cs for years, I have vaped and studied it for about 8 years now. I know more than I know more than I should tbh. People rarely get to me directly, if at all. But ‘time wasters’ as I like to call them, ruin me. Sucking teeth, pointless talking, mouth noises, lip smacking, finger tapping ect...  Things like that I feel are social pause buttons to think. They feel as though they are meant to fill a void that is not there and does not need to be filled. I feel like they are thing people do because they are insecure about a situation or don’t know what to do in a given situation.  I pride myself on efficiency in nearly everything I do. When I walk in a store, i already know what I want, and usually get it with few words exchanged. Meanwhile, half the assholes I deal with are the ‘just looking’ type that I have to forcibly engage in conversation. It burns my ass soooo damn bad.  If you can’t tell, this was a vent blog. I needed a moment.

Let’s talk about porn...

So in light of recent event of Tumblr deciding to toss the axe to any and all NSFW ( and god only knows how much that is sfw) content, the site is ablaze with opinions. So I thought it best to make use of this moment to explore the effects of this and just how we as a community got to this point.

Porn at one time was very much so a taboo, something that was kept private, a dirty little secret if you will. Pretty much everyone had looked at, or did look at pornography in some way, at some point in their life. It was very different by today’s standards, people didn’t talk about it and it was very rarely a team sport to talk about. Even with everyone having their own flavor, it was exceedingly rare that someone would come out and talk about what their preferred fetish was.  Now, I’m old as shit, well, by internet standards. I remember this very much so, I also remember being perplexed that the topic of porn did not come into conversation more often, even by the age of 10. It was a prude world back then, back then being as little as 25 years ago anyway. People just didn’t talk about it, hell, they would openly detest it publicly, knowing damn good and well they had a dildo between the mattress and a stack of mags in the spank bank.

I believe that this was largely because people did not want to be labeled in anyway. Being a prude was hip, and being a perv was a sure sign of going to hell and being unsafe to talk to in public. Much like the mythical “Koodies” they thought that they themselves would catch the perv and be ostracized by their piers. It was pointless, trivial and a waste of time and to be perfectly honest, a set of brakes on mental development of the human race.  The past is just that, the past. That time has came and gone long ago, but the remnants of a aging and mentally repressed culture remains. Like a constant reminder of where we came from and a absolute oppression of self awareness and expression, that generation still has a major influence on today’s people.   But how did we get here? How did we go from prudish culture, to open expresion, back to prudish culture? I should issue a healthy reminder that this is all my personal opinion and speculation, having formed it from living through the changing of the tides personally.    In a word? Half-assed parenting. Now before you fire up your keyboards to roast me, take a moment to think about the sauce and spices first. At some point, probably the early 90′s, parents started to focus less on their kids and more on growing technology. Self indulgence was back, home shopping channels, more than 10 channels on the cable box, the internet happened in a big way, chat rooms and the free flow of information. All of these things made life much easier and much more informative.   Parents went from being heavily involved with their child’s life and being a major contributor to their personalities, to relying heavily on tech to help with much needed free time. With a free flow of information, pornography and the ability to seemingly learn the worlds opinion with the tap of a finger, people began to relax a bit. Don’t get me wrong, there were people who were overly involved in their kid’s life to the point of puking, and people who also were tight nit to their values along the whole way. They are easy to spot, they don’t own cellphones and say things like “Myface” and “Spacebook”. But the majority of people out there became a bit more liberal with their preferences in life, fetishes, porn, likes, opinions, ect... I feel like this went on until the mid 2k era, sometime after the turning of a new millennia. Hint, hint. You have to understand that this is being written very much so from a social engineering perspective and as such, much is speculatory. I feel like 9/11 had a lot to do with a resurgence in religion and that old timey american spirit. NO, I am not concocting a conspiracy theory! But nothing says grab your bibles and grab your guns like a old fashioned war. The events of 9/11 were a heavy moment in american history. Country music became very popular... Let me say that again... COUNTRY MUSIC BECAME VERY POPULAR! If that is not a social shift Idk what is... I feel like around that time, people started to fall back on their beliefs and turning away from many of the things they had come to openly express. No one wanted to stir the pot and no one wanted to be seen as anything other than a normal american joe. Much like wars of the past, people began to re-conform and fall in line so to speak. 

The problem with this lies in the fact that it left an entire generation out in the cold when it did so. The natural course of events have become broken and left in two distinct tracts. one falling back to the days of old when everyone was red blooded americans or commies, and another that valued open expression, praised defiance of what they felt was wrong and longed for interactions from others who felt the way they did. 

There were no great leaders for the aft generation, there was no deep rooted history and there was no manual to fall back on when it all went wrong. In other words the generation was forged on the coals of defunked values of old and had to create their own history. I very much so belong to this generation.  We grew up in chatrooms, trading briefcases of porn in yahoo chatroom (Cough,cough...), doing our homework on the internet and ripping music from napster. We educated ourselves at a moments notice in fear of being wrong, we studied to prove that we were right to our parents and we created platforms to voice our opinions. We turned “Because I said so” into a chance to make people 4 times our age question their existence. I don’t know about you, but I’m rather proud of it and how far we have come.

This pitted generation against generation. A tale as old as time, is it not? The problem is that many of the previous generation feels that they know best and all else be damned in the quest for more money. They will do as they please and pat us all on the head, most of us are very much so adults mind you, as though we are weak, simple minded apes. 

My point to all of this, and my subsequent end to this rant, is this... We are dealing with the death throws of a generation that refuses to die. Tumblr pulling the rip-cord on NSFW content is just one more reminder that they have yet to die off. They are banking on a new generation of kids finding a safe platform that is porn and conflict free. Nevermind that with four simple letters typed into google yields truckloads of all of that with no restriction. Nevermind that sex sells is ingrained in our culture. Never mind that the people doing it cause every last bit of this, they will impress their beliefs or die trying.  We are at just one more cultural shift in life, one of many that we will see in the coming years. A power struggle of values vs values if you will. But it’s pointless, my generation votes with it’s dollars and views and will do the very same here and now.  Chances are that this platform will die off like all the others, gone the way of myspace in just a few days. But until then, I watch with glee as yet another company kills itself off, burns down the site and stands amidst the ashes shouting “HOW!?”.  This has been even more bad life advice by: RoccoRoks! BTW, Pornhub has nearly become full blown social media at this point and is welcoming all NSFW artist to their site as a safe haven.
