Portfolio Bio
“I’m in my own little world but it’s OK. They know me here!” - Lauren Myracle
Hi I’m Rochel. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve had a creative imagination. From doodling to storytelling- from using markers and crayons to playing with barbies- the creativity and imagination was always there.
As I grew up, I ultimately fell in love with art. I was always doodling in the margins of my school notes and drawing characters from books I read, movies and T.V shows. You name it, I probably drew it. In the third grade, as an assignment, I had to write a short story and illustrate it. I had received amazing feedback and that was when I knew I wanted to be an illustrator and an author. I started making my own original characters and developed stories around them. Anywhere I go, I try to have a sketch pad or notebook on me, to jot down illustration ideas or my next short story. As much as I love being outgoing and having fun with friends, you’ll most often find me being antisocial in my “office” (a.k.a my bedroom), where I spend hours upon hours drawing and writing.
I am currently in school, majoring in Design and working on my first novel, which I hope to get published.

Public Transportation Interviews
When using public transportation, what form do you use?
Train and bus
Subway
Before COVID, I used to take the bus to school. Now with COVID, I don’t take the bus anymore as school is online
I used to use the lirr, but since coronavirus I use Uber.
How often do you use public transportation? (prior to, during and after corona)
Not often
Weekly or bi weekly basis. Usually for dates, events, or Shabbat
Before COVID, I would take the bus everyday to and from school. Now that school is online because of COVID, I am no longer using the bus
A couple times a week
Are you happy with public transportation?
Ew. I hate the delays and the homeless people constantly living on them. The elevators always have a mysterious liquid. If they cleaned it up like they do now I’d be ok riding them, but until then not happening. The trains suck
Always room for improvement, but I appreciate the convenience. Overcrowding is an issue as is dangerous passengers on late night trains.
It’s definitely not the same as driving your own car as there are other people on board with you, you can’t be on your own schedule, there can be delays, and it takes longer than driving. But other than that, it’s pretty good. It’s almost like a new adventure everyday with taking the bus
I have mixed feelings with PT, sometimes the drivers can be sweet and drive fast but others can be very slow and make me late to my destination / can not be friendly at all
What do you usually do during your trip?
Listen to music
Often I listen to music and look out the window. I quietly observe my fellow passengers when they get on or off the train to just be aware of my surroundings and take in the diversity around me.
During my trip, I am usually listening to music, checking social media, or just relaxing and looking out the window
I mainly listen to music on my phone and sometimes make conversations with the drivers
What could possibly make the trip more enjoyable/better?
If it wasn’t disgusting
Less crowding and more security in the safety of my person and belongings.
Something that could make the trip more enjoyable is if the ride took a less amount of time than it usually does so I can get to my destination faster
if all drivers would drive at a relatively normal speed and would be sweet, but not talking too much as sometimes peace and quiet is best for stressful days.
