Alesis Midi Verb II
So we recently lost our amp/electronic/all around nice guy tech in Grand Rapids, MI. 聽Me being the kind of person i am decided why not? Lets try and fix stuff for real! 聽You see for years I have been building stuff and fixing my own shit. 聽However I always had a guy to take take stuff to if i completely ruined something with my tinkering or if something was way over my head. 聽Without that safety net it was now time to get serious. 聽This month I bought a couple of books, an oscilloscope, and a signal generator. 聽I also have a pile of broken gear that needs to be fixed. 聽But some of that stuff is rather complex so I am going to start small and get a couple of "easy" beater projects under my wings. 聽
First up is the Alesis Midiverb II.

I was browsing around ebay and came across this little gem. 聽I have always had a soft spot for these terrible 80s cheap rack effects. 聽Winning bid $10.51 and it came with a working 聽power supply. 聽I figured if anything the power supplies were going for more then that so it would be an easy flip if i fucked this thing up any further.聽
Today I had a little time in between sessions and figured it was as good as ever to dig into this. 聽Plugged everything in just to make sure the guy that sold it to me wasn't an idiot. Nope doesn't turn on. 聽Measured the voltage at the power supply and everything looks good there. 聽Opened it up and started poking around with my multi meter since i don't really understand how to use the scope yet. 聽
The first thing i touched was the pad on "J7" boom the unit came alive. 聽Looks like the jumper from the power input has come unsoldered from the pcb. 聽Easy fix! 聽I closed everything up and then wired it into my patchbay. 聽Started running test signals through it but the effected sound was coming in and out. 聽Figured it was just just some dirty pots. 聽which it was. 聽Success I just saved myself $80. 聽Not that I really wanted a Alesis Midiverb II that badly but for $10.51 why not.
