xie lian and wu ming walked so that wenren e and yin hanjiang could do whatever the hell they are doing

love how dvawtk plays with perspective. baili qingmiao is the battered shoujo protagonist (but none of her love interests even love her). hè wenzhao is living in a revenge fantasy stallion novel (and he's just a puppet for the blood demon). zhongli qian comes off as an honourable gentleman in abusive romance and a scumbag in god of annihilation, and neither of those extremes truly reflect who he really is. wenren è projects his own trauma onto yin hanjiang and his notions of what yhj would want to do with his life, and as a result yhj moulds himself to wre's expectations, trying to become an emotionless weapon of a right-hand man, when really he's jealous, possessive and is being stifled by forcing himself to not overstep his role. wenren è himself is the terrifying demonic sovereign but has a much more complex philosophy than just "kill all righteous cultivators." almost everyone (shu yanyan, altar master yuan, even the violet pavilion master) has hidden depths and their own motivations underneath the basic trope they slot into. dvawtk is hilarious and poignant and such a fun take on staple character traits.
