Algorithm filters
From this week's module, I found the Medium article on algorithms to be very insightful. The fact that many people get their news directly from social media and that there is a possibility that certain stories/topics could be hidden or shadowbanned is troubling.
I see it with day to day usage of platforms like Instagram. I may be following a person and want to see his content, but the algorithm instead wants to show me a whole row of suggested accounts and posts based on my usage. I will end up entirely missing any content from the person I am following because the algorithm was pushing something else. That is dangerous because the precedent could be set of internet providers and social media platforms etc. choosing to bury content they do not want the public to see.
This will continue to be an ongoing issue in addition to the conversation around net neutrality and only time will tell if any changes will truly be made.

This speaker details his recommendations on how to prepare yourself for how your online life will be after death. It's a worthwhile thing to think about, as also detailed in this week's reading.

This image highlights the importance of having security factors in place, otherwise we all run the risk of having data leaked or stolen. This becomes ever more difficult to maintain in our vastly growing digital landscape as detailed from this week's reading.

The Senate is looking to pass a set of bills which " would be the first to update children’s privacy protections online since the 1990s." This hopes to filter content shown to minors as well as protect their data as well. Time will tell if the legislation will pass as it may undergo some of the same issues that Apple has had in the past, from this week's module reading linked here.

"Historically, the United States has approached privacy as a commercial matter while countries in Europe and elsewhere typically view privacy as a fundamental right of their citizens."
This quote is intriguing from one of this week's readings as it details what seems to be the motivation behind privacy for the U.S. as opposed to other nations. Privacy should be a high priority that is not based on profit but on users' best interest.
