i started this in september for the zine fest, this still counts! i thought, hmmm i’ve been listening to heaps of various forms of space scifi, what could i possibly do a zine about?
this was my first ever zine! i think i might do a follow-up of honorable mentions that didn’t make it in, i already had to modify the format cuz i had too much to say xD

Sometimes I put on Roguemaker playlists on while I’m cooking and then feel like a character in Roguemaker universe simply listening to these songs on the radio 😌

Saddie DeRoso disappeared ten years ago, leaving behind the charred remains of a home. Now, her brother, podcaster Nicholas DeRoso, thinks he's finally found her -- in an infinite suburb beyond material reality. Will he find her? And how far will he go to try?

I am being so serious when I say: if you have the financial and time privilege to get a group of friends together and make an indie project, PLEASE do. Indie games, indie animations, indie comics etc etc
the art industries are kind of in the shitter. It’s not so much because of AI (though that doesn’t help) but because studios just aren’t hiring people and funding projects anymore. People who’ve been in the industry for decades are finding themselves struggling, and once you have a mortgage or kids it’s harder to do something as risky as making something on your own.
completing projects is hard. it takes a lot of time and effort, and most people can’t afford it. so if you CAN afford to make art, even at the risk of no financial gain, I strongly encourage you to be as resilient as you can. We’re at a point where these industries are not going to turn around by themselves, and waiting for jobs to open up again in order to get experience and portfolio work might not be realistic.
people have been making art and telling stories longgggg before we were getting paid for it, and people aren’t going to stop just because no one has hired them to do so.
for everyone else: support indie artists when you can!!!! That person who made that cool indie game or youtube animation or webcomic might be doing this full time! your support might be the only reason they’re able to keep doing it.
and if you have already started an indie project: you’re so brave and I’m very proud of you!!! in fact, drop a link to it in the reblogs if you want! 👇

AI Bracket — Round 1
Propaganda
Ship (ROGUEMAKER):
The pilot AI of Plutonic Flight 999 interstellar passenger ship. Helpful and trying its best.
Doing its best.
QWERTY (Trial and Error):
Sentient transcription software who's experimenting making music. I don't have the capacity to submit every AI from this show so beloved QWERTY will suffice.

It's a Bandcamp Friday, so if you've been eyeing up seasons from podcasts like Inn Between, Sidequesting, The Dungeon Economic Model, Old Gods of Appalachia, specials from shows like Welcome to Night Vale, or music from shows like The Tower, The Lost Cat Podcast, or The Strange Case of Starship Iris, now is a great time to grab them, as what you're paying goes far more directly to the creators.

hi! wanderer’s lament was my favorite song (i paused and listened to it again before letting tarsul talk), and i was curious, is it a ǵnonw song or an about gardens original?
It's an ancient ǵnonw folk song! Something Woh́́ has been singing since their childhood, with the accompanying comforting nostalgia despite its haunting storyline. We love it, too--and are very proud that it won an Audio Verse Award last year! https://audioverseawards.net/2022-winners/#Best_Composition_for_a_New_Production
Since the ǵnonw live underground, our composer Emily went with a simple percussive sound for the instrumental portion of the song. Wanderer's Lament is also inspired by a similar moment in the first episode of The Strange Case of Starship Iris, in which characters stuck in space sing an old folk song (Whiskey in the Jar) together. (Also also, Emma wrote most of the lyrics right after seeing Dune in theatres...that mighta affected some things xD)

okay i’m kissing the worldbuilding of roguemaker on the mouth i don’t think ive ever seen a space scifi setting where there’s just two species. or, there’s three, but the one was ancient and disappeared before the other two reached space. it’s really fascinating and a change of pace, like, instead of having all these intergalactic species going on, it’s just the humans and the gnonw. ep 1 starts us out with a convo btwn lowkey and woh, a human and gnonw, and they casually exposit for us that gnonw have double-chambered larynxes (can harmonize with their self) and live in a tidally-locked planet (static light&dark sides)(“night and day are places for me and times for you”) and as SOON as woh said that i was like Oh Okay pull up a chair i’m here for this. the two cultures are v different and they know Enough about each other but not everything and it’s so cool. i love sci-fi
#you spelled it right except for the accent but thats fine we often miss the accent too!#worldbuilding#thank you for listening!
