Beside the Stormcast
Bjørn Tordenfløyte stood proudly, horn raised to his lips, as the waves crashed against the rocks beneath him. The sea breeze snapping at the horn’s banner, he sounded a long, triumphant note, then leant hard on his bloodied sword. Another foe obliterated on the beaches of the Helderkust.
Within minutes, Bjørn’s host was gathered around him and their march back inland began. To the people of the Helderkust, such columns of red and steel glinting in the sunlight were now as much a part of the scenery as the dazzling fields of suncorn and blazewort and the glittering seas beyond.
Soon, of course, the columns would move on some place else. Chaos would be banished from this land and Sigmar’s promise to the Helderkust would be fulfilled. Some soldiers would stay, to protect this new part of the empire, but most would march on to some new land. And with them would march the best fighting men and women of the Helderkust, for their promise was just beginning.
For now, though, the stormhost was taking back their country from the unimaginable horrors that had beset them. Town by town, civilisation was being returned to the Helderkust, and from their camps the Stormcast struck forth to drive away the daemons.
By the time Bjørn and his host reached their camp outside the town of Bakenklif, the sky had taken on much of the scarlet tint that was as close as Hysh came to having nights. Sending his troops to their barrack tents, Bjørn headed for the large command pavilion of Malleus Truespin, Lord-Celestant of their legion.
As Bjørn walked, he mused on the day’s victory, how yet again they had found themselves pursuing their daemonic enemy towards the coast, and yet again they’d driven them… what? Into the sea? But they hadn’t, had they? The fight had reached the water, certainly, but the enemy had been crushed as if against a rock, or in pincers, not pushed below the waves. It was as though the daemons had been trapped between two armies, and yet his Stormcast had never got around their flanks.
The more he tried to remember, the less he could recall anything exactly. He would have to tell Malleus something of the battle, he knew that, but all he could remember was the salty air in his nostrils.
Troubled, he tucked his helmet under his arm and stooped as he entered the tent. He headed towards the large map table at which Malleus and some other commanders lounged, but his eyes were drawn to movement in a dark corner of the tent behind some weapon racks. As his eyes adjusted to the dim light, he realised with horror what was moving in the shadows, and fumbled for his sword.
“Sigmar help us!”, he muttered. “Tentacles!”

Lots of custom mixes of colours as they’re all one-offs. Cork rocks painted grey then drybrushed with Balor Brown; same drybrushing for the tufts. Armageddon Dust drybrushed with Ushabti Bone. Two-part epoxy resin for the still water, clear silicone sealant drybrushed white for the dynamic water.

Started work on the other two Liberators, and tried to do a little more wash work on the first one to get a bit more detail into some of his armour. I have a lot of regret about trusting the “Easy Build” kit’s instructions when they implied I could glue everything together before starting painting. I was suspicious about the shields in particular, and I was right. Oh well, it’s mostly ok, just fiddly and a bit less neat than it could be.

Redid the leather in Mournfang Brown with washes of Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil, followed by a bit of drybrushed Bugman’s Glow. It’s not changed it a huge amount, but it’ll do. Also attempted some drybrushed Tamiya Titanium Silver on the mask, the hammer, and the top of the shield, but I’m not certain it did anything.

My first mini! A Liberator of the Stormcast Eternals, done in the colour scheme of my stormhost Sigmar’s Promise, inspired by Roman colours. Might try to highlight the red and give some of the metal a drybrush highlight, or I might just move on.
