I'm gonna be real PresAux as a society that is trying to be self-reliant and socialist but struggling with what that means in the face of a vastly capitalist universe + having to, on some level, play the game in order to get by and continue pushing, is a lot more interesting than if the PresAux of the show was just a perfect utopia
#absolutely agree with this - it would too cheesy and unrealistic if presaux was just perfect and had everything figured out#also like I have a hard time with the way people take everything every character says at 100% face value#like we know gurathin is new to presauz (or at least newer)#and that “debt” was such a fast gut level response#and he's also talking to someone he already doesnt trust#is that his honest answer or is he being cynical corporation rim gurathin?

#i loved this scene sm#bc in a lot of shows that is something that would played as suave and cool#or even played for laughs as trope subversion#(its been a while but im pretty sure the exact same thing happens in firefly and its played as a funny/heroic moment)#so of course a secunit that only understands humans from serials would think that is absolutely the thing to do#and it'll get to have a badass hero moment

#if you care its bc it was the western US b4 the Louisiana purchase#at least up to the missippi#but after the us got more west they couldnt call that the west anymore#so it became midway west#and then culturally the south came to be defined seperately#(largely due to the civil war and the events leading up to that)#and so midwest became the northern part of that area
