From May 25 to July 1, 2023
With Sibylle Czichon, Rébecca Konforti, Sabrina Podemski, Manuel Pomar, Romain Ruiz-Pacouret, Wolfgang Schaefer, Katharina Schmidt, Emmanuel Simon
A proposal by Duo Iconôsphère, Rébecca Konforti and Romain Ruiz-Pacouret
Project carried out with the support of the Institut Français, the Mairie de Toulouse and the Kulturamt - Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf.
"L'espace en question proposes to approach the notion of space in painting and/or drawing, as well as conversely questioning drawing and/or painting in space. Rébecca Konforti and Romain Ruiz-Pacouret have participated on several occasions in exchanges between France and Germany, and their knowledge of both scenes has motivated them to to set up this project. As artists, coordinators and curators of the partnership of the partnership, with support from the teams at both venues.
L'espace en question is taking place in two stages, with the first exhibition taking place at Lieu-Commun artist run space in Toulouse in May and June, and the second at Weltkunstzimmer in Düsseldorf from late August to late September. These two artist-run spaces have also decided to support the project, in order to renew the links that have developed over many years between the two artists. developed over many years between the two art scenes.
The space in question is intended to be a series of truly collective exhibitions, and not simply a showcase of adjacent works. The principle here is that contemporary art, in addition to being a way of thinking about art, can also be seen as a privileged terrain for multiple disciplines. Within the exhibition space, German and French artists and art workers will have the opportunity to join forces, to live and work together on a common ground, that of contemporary art. The public will discover the results of lengthy epistolary exchanges, shaped during a ten-day production residency at each venue. Lieu-Commun is the first stage, and we're betting that painting will once again occupy a special place…"
