25/25, no hesitation or confusion. It's a fantastic illustration of how much more quickly technological advancements and planned obsolescence move now because it was not abnormal to hang on to something for 40+ years up until maybe... 15 years ago? So of course most of us remember all of those things - we still have them in a closet, garage, or shed somewhere. Currently it's almost impossible to keep things for more than a few years. I can get a metal crank for the 60 year old salvaged mobile home window in my tool shed all day every day for a fiver, but I can't get the replacement crank for a maybe five year old many-hundred-dollar Pella awning window because it's "Completely out of production, sorry no backstock. You'll need a new window, actually."
Try this buzzfeed quiz it’s fun.

if you don't know what is going on in Kerr County, Texas right now, here's a recap. Kerrville, Hunt, San Angelo and many other small towns and communities are settled along the Guadalupe River which runs from Kerr County in the Hill Country to the San Antonio Bay on the Gulf Coast. Last night, due to a storm that settled over the area and stalled, and is continuing to stall, the Guadalupe rose from being nearly dry at about 3ft last night to approximately 27ft in 45 MINUTES. Kerrville, Hunt, Comfort, and other surrounding areas received nearly 10'' of rain in 3 hours, which for some areas is an entire summer's worth of rain. IN 3 HOURS. Kerrville has many very popular camping sites that are packed with campers for the independence day holiday. To make matters worse, there are several children's summer camps along the Guadalupe River that were evacuated in the middle of last night. Over 100 people are missing, including 23 young girls from Camp Mystic. 24 fatalities are confirmed already. More rain is expected to fall tonight, and the river is likely to rise more and to crest in Spring Branch Tx. The area is being described as completely devastated and destroyed. Entire houses swept away, people being rescued from trees, power outages, a highway destroyed. Children's summer camps like Camp Mystic and Camp La Junta were evacuated but others like Mo Ranch and possibly Honey Creek and John Knox Ranch are having to shelter in place all while without power, wifi and other amenities due to the flooding. The news is now saying the Guadalupe could rise, and very quickly, to 40ft tonight, meaning it would likely cover Hwy 281. PLEASE STAY SAFE IF YOU ARE IN THE AREA! LISTEN TO EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS AND DO NOT GO OUT ON THE ROADS UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!

I don't understand why they seem so determined to kill as many people as possible in the most cruel and horrifying ways they can.

In the wake of everything going on in Texas I can’t even fathom this. This lab is responsible for so much of what we all depend on today and a big reason you used to know exactly what was coming at you and when.

In addition to the above check with the drug company itself directly. It's a pain in the ass but a lot of them offer coupons and pricing discounts directly that can make them nearly free.
Seeing as how the Big Beautiful Bill just passed, here's are some websites that offer discounts on medications:
- GoodRx
- SingleCare
- Pharmacy Checker
- WellRx - this one compares prices across different pharmacies
- Cost Plus - thanks to @thedamnqueenofhell for suggesting!
Stay safe, everyone. Things are about to get much, much worse in the US.
EDIT: if you're worried about doctor/therapy appointments, see if there's a sliding scale clinic near you (and ask your therapist if they offer sliding scale prices)

Since everything is kind of shit politically, and not great socially, I wanted to share something nice.
This year fireflies came back in my area. I don't know why. I don't know what was different about things (though I expect the damp spring had something to do with it), but there is a frankly unreasonable number of them out and about.
It's got me deep in nostalgia about my childhood, back when a firefly-filled summer like this was the norm.

Witchy/Arty Supplies Alert 6/25
They do NOT seem to have them on the website but Dollar Tree has little square sketch books with elastic closures, very much like the Michaels "Artist's Loft" ones less than half the price. They're about 4"-ish.
The stickers come off VERY easily. The paper is okay, and puts up with dry media pretty well. It tolerates my fountain pens, but I don't think it would tolerate genuinely wet media (maybe gentle washes with no reworking or scrubbing), and I can all but guarantee markers are gonna be a bad time. There's a decent amount of pages, but it's not THICK. Maybe 1/2".
If you're looking for a pocket sized book for work, or one you can easily hide somewhere this is a really good option. The cover has enough give in the spine area that you could probably also collage in there, and the elastic is thick and robust which means it'll hang on even with significant bloating from extra stuff.
It also looks like it would be very easy to re-cover with a 'nicer' paper. It comes in about four different colors with this checkerboard pattern.

“Ugh this prominent women in the Lesbian movement turned out to be a bisexual” “ugh this famous lesbian transitioned into a man” “ugh this queer romance writer turns out to be ace” “ugh this cis feminist author ended up being nonbinary” “ugh this writer on masculinity transitioned into a woman”
Oh no! We might have to recognize liberation as an interconnected intersectional struggle! Ahhh!!! >.<

"It wasn’t until about two years into the pandemic, when the “vax and relax” era was clearly not going to work, that I had to reckon with my system for organizing time. I couldn’t delay the future any longer; I couldn’t continue protecting the story of my life from the pandemic’s incursion. So I accepted the terrible fact that the pandemic was going to continue indefinitely and was not merely an event in my life but rather the container in which the rest of my life would take place. This was a difficult reckoning. It required that I come to terms with a great deal of grief about the failures of those around me; about what I lost and will have lost; a privilege in thinking that these were the sorts of world-historical changes that happened to other people, at other times. But it was also a reckoning that rescued the orderliness of time, for me. It was as if the clock was un-paused, and life resumed its forward march. I think most people stabilized their warped sense of time by other means. Instead of accepting that the pandemic continued on, that we failed to contain it and so would need to incorporate its ongoing reality into the stories we tell ourselves about our own lives, they instead transformed the fantasy of after into their reality. After the pandemic, after the lockdowns, after our world ruptured. They were able to interrupt the prolonged uncertainty that the pandemic had brought to all of our lives by erecting a finish line just in time for them to run through it. And as they ran through it, celebrating the fictional end of an arduous journey, they simultaneously invented a new before. This is the invention of memory. The Pandemic became something temporally contained, its crisp boundaries providing a psychic safeguard to any lingering anxieties around the vulnerability and interdependence of our bodies that only a virus could show us. No longer did it threaten to erupt in their everyday lives, forcing cancellations and illnesses and deaths. It was, officially, part of The Past. And from the safety of hindsight (even if only an illusion), people began telling and re-telling the story of The Pandemic in ways that strayed from how it all actually went down. It was a way to use memory as self-soothing."

So... that incubator? I bought it partially on credit shortly before that post bemoaning the price. And then I bemoaned the price because of the price. And the buyer's remorse, and the panic. And then I felt like a damned idiot.
Doing things you've never done before is scary as hell. And when that involves little living critters AND a pretty thick chunk of change? Yeeeahhhh... sometimes you have a total meltdown about it, and that's okay.
Anyway... for those who pitched in and those who sent kind wishes... thank you. It really helped settle my BS, it really helped to knock down the tab I owe, and the price turned out to be worth it. This is how I spent my Solstice. I had a fantastic hatch rate, despite my inexperience and flailing panic.
I can't express the genuine gratitude I feel. Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you.
The few quitters (eggs that partially developed and stopped) will be given back to the land just as soon as I'm sure they've truly opted out of hatching. The spent shells go into the compost. The cycle continues.
Look at this little creature with its little goth eyeliner. That's just too damned cute.
*no posts about these guys will be tagged with or include the uncensored name of what type of animal they are so that pet owners don't find it. If you reblog this or any other post about them that I make please respect that as well. I don't want it to upset or bother anyone, nor do I wish to be upset or bothered by others.

It's like the shrimp bit in Forrest Gump, but it's just me sitting on my front porch. A Mike's Hard Lemonade in one hand, the other pressed against my forehead, muttering aloud trying to figure out more ways to use quail eggs.
"Quail egg zucchini fritters? Quail egg quiche? Quail egg ... mayo? Quail egg cakes and cookies? Quail scotch eggs? Quail egg and potato breakfast burritos?" Edited to add: Everyone's had amazing ideas thank you very much.

I'll bring several full trays of deviled quail eggs. You think the regular ones are addictive? HAH! You can fit like six of these in your mouth at a time. I got all the spices and flavorings. Oh and I suppose a disreputable liquor or three.

The real and embarrassing reason I don't post pics much anymore is that I "upgraded" my phone and the camera's default setup is shiiiiiiiiiiiiit. I'm just not tech savvy enough these days to figure out how to make it function properly.
