❝ quite alright, milady; in truth, i'd have expected nothi- ng else of you. after all, you're just beginning. ❞
for she'd always been on the receiving end of the arrows, and not on the end which supplied them in the first place. at the very least, she grasped the ba- sics of just how it was that archers "posed", so to speak; this much was made evident just by the way she set herself up. there were a few things that, un- doubtedly, need work -- and though he supplies the faintly-reassuring look that she'd wanted of him, he's already analyzing what needs to be fixed and where.
no one ever said taking up archery was easy. he mo- ves just slightly closer to her, as though in scrutiny.
❝ this should do just fine, however -- i strongly advise against twisting your upper body to face your target. it's poor form. keep the entirety of your body facing in one direction, the right; and have your head turn to lo- ok at that which you'll be aiming to shoot. ❞
❝ you'd also do well to loosen up your muscles, lady co- rdelia; for i daresay that someone a mile's distance fr- om our current position could tell just how tense you are now. relax; it's only practice. ❞

"A stance?" She was a bit overwhelmed. Though she never particularly liked archers (for very obvious reasons), the pegasus knight never realized how much they trained their own accuracy.
Awkwardly shifting the bronze bow in her hands, she gave him a nearly pained look, uncomfortable with the lack of experience she had with the weapon; she was usually on the receiving side of the arrow.
"Pardon my form and really everything else. This seems so foreign to me." Standing with her feet pointing towards the right, with her torso slightly twisted so it faced the target, she looked to the duke for reassurance.

❝ is that right? you phrase it that way so as to ignite my curiosity, i'm sure -- all to your advantage. ❞
and it served its purpose well, for the archer could not help but wonder what sort of 'compensation' he would offer for something he seemingly deemed so important. certainly more cunning than he looked; this much was for certain. a brow would raise upon hearing inigo continue; whatever else he wished? all for something as slight as a secret regarding hair --.
❝ so i can see, inigo. though, i must confess -- i cannot for the life of me think of anything that might rival the value of the secret i hold! not readily, anyway. so do tell -- what might you have had in mind? ❞
a question he's not sure he wishes to ask, but asks regardless.
"Don’t worry, Virion, I have the utmost best thing you may have in compensation. Of course, you will not find out until a bit later, perhaps." He was a bit saddened that Virion did not believe his claim of it endangering his health, but of course, the man was sharper than he may look.
“Also, you do know…. you are free to name whatever else you find best. I do not care for whether it is highly expensive or not, just name your price! It is important that I have a hold of the Rosannean secret! You see, it’s very imperative to me.”

strong was she in her convictions, in attempting to stand from her unsightly fall and prove to the arch- er that she was indeed as well as she claimed. yet the grimace that crosses her features would tell a different story entirely. it does not go unnoticed, not by a long shot -- perhaps unfortunately for her.
there is a pause, then, as he regards her.
❝ are you very certain, milady --? please, if nothing el- se -- allow me to help you on your way to see a me- dic. 'twould be no trouble; in fact, i'd be glad to. ❞
` s .. sorry!`
THE girl hastily stutters out an apology, brushing down her skirt with flaming red cheeks.
`but ..—-
i’m okay.`
a clear lie, with the grimace that shapes as soon as she puts some weight onto her right leg, though krista would rather be damned than have anyone help her.

❝ lady luck smiles upon me indeed -- for she has graced me with a woman that is as kind as she is lovely. i se- ek a particular shop, one that deals in the vending of literature, and things of that nature. surely, you would not be opposed to leading me to such a shop --? ❞
“As Lady Luck would smile upon you -
I am a person from this region,
And I have the honor of helping out
All those in need.
What would you seek here today,
Virion-san?”

❝ if it is your wish, mon prince, then i see no reason to do anything otherwise. being so far from home, i can only imagine the sorts of sights and wonders that rosanne might have in store for you. 'twould be my pleasure, then, to lead you around my home. ❞
for it was always strange, finding yourself in a new country, on a foreign shore; he would recall as much as he remembered the days that followed his arrival to other areas within the main continent of valm. thou- gh rosanne was part of the mainland, by technicality, things were different, from the people, to the languages. he'd not much time to sight-see, as his travels were str- ictly political, but -- if the young prince had the time to sp- are, he should at least be allowed to take in the sights of his own free will. nodding in agreement, a hand wou- ld move to gesture at the path ahead of them. both sig- nifying that he would indeed be honored to take the young man and his guests on their tour, and that he sh- ould start up from the docks and into the city; virion wo- uld, respectfully, follow after.
❝ to the best of my ability, i shall; so ask questions as you see fit. perhaps we might talk as we walk --? ❞
❝ The travel had gone smooth as was planned, Duke Virion. And we arrived here earlier than intended, so rest is far out from our minds. We’d like to spend our time for a tour around, for I believe sightseeing in the upcoming days is close to impossible. ❞ And he only speaks with the truth spilling from his words. It is a rarity, after all; even some people in the same position as him finds it entertaining to have been invited in a dukedom from faraway. The sights could be different, culture and traditions a total enigma to a foreigner, and from a person indulging in histories of other countries, Kouen finds the experience exhilarating. He wonders what kind of stories Rosanne can offer to his curious mind.

He lets his gaze wander for a short moment then, a ghost of a smile spreading along his lips as he took in everything: from docks to buildings, from greens to people and their interactions. It’s not as stiff as Kou Empire at least. ❝ Rosanne is a curious place, and I’d like to learn more about your dukedom even if it is just for a day. Will you entertain a few questions of mine, Duke? ❞

❝ aptly put, milady. that said, i shall see you when my preparations are just about complete --! ❞
which, in truth, does not take much time at all; all he requires is a fresh set of targets to be put up, and to salvage a bow from storage -- so that there are two upon the field. rather, suiting, considering there is bo- th himself and cordelia, now, meaning to take aim.
she is greeted with a charming smile as she arrives, the archer just touching-up all that had been set; aft- er all, perfection was practically his middle name. at least, when it came to such things as his archery.
❝ there you are, lady cordelia --! i trust you were not too antsy in waiting? whatever the case, we've both the time and equipment to begin this training-session now, so if you would ... -- ❞
a hand gestures towards the area in which her bow would rest -- call it an experimental approach, but he is curious to see how much she already knows.
❝ please, go on and take what stance you deem proper.❞

"Oh by all means, please do so. Anything to fit your own personal preferences, as you will be the one teaching me. It would be inconvenient if the field was not to your liking, yes?”
Returning the smile, she departed, only to return as soon as she was done eating. As someone who loved learning anything new, it was no surprise that Cordelia was eager to pick up a new skill in weaponry.

"Papa!" And with no hesitation, a young boy with hair of sky blue bounds into his father's quarters, a knight carved of wood in hand. The same figure that he will present to his father animatedly, using his other hand to brush wisps of hair from his forehead. "Show me!" For the boy wanted to learn from Virion and one day best both him and his mother.
send me anons as my muse's child.
it is effortless, the way he turns upon his heel to face his son -- so that he can properly sweep him from his feet and into the air, upon hearing his req- uest. not so young that he can't walk yet, as made evident by the way he all-but bounds into the room, but not so old that virion cannot take him up off the floor and into his arms. as he so loves to, admittedly; this is his child, after all.
the chess piece that he presents elicits a laugh from the archer in question -- how terribly suiting
❝ i do hope you asked your mother's permission be- fore stealing away with one of her pieces, mon pet- it chou. ah, she'll be beside herself with worry if she finds it to be missing --! ❞
a theatrical display of worry, for a brief moment, be- fore he laughs once more and sets the boy down in the seat that, prior to his entrance, he had been sitting in himself. conveniently enough, the very ga- me that the boy yearned to learn had already been set-up upon the desk -- suffice it to say he'd been testing himself. gently taking the wooden gamepiece from the child's grasp, he sets it upon the desk as well.

❝ we'll just have to have work quickly, then; won't we? alors, after me -- this one here is the knight ... -- ❞

❝ by all means, milady -- ask what you will of me. in this case, you would be correct; lady lucina was a dear comrade of mine, once upon a time; graced with both peerless skill, and beauty to match it. ❞
a time that was far less peaceful than this, however; one that had been riddled with wars, and the death that near-always followed behind. it had not been too long since the shepherds' battle with grima, but even so, su- ch events would be difficult to put out of one's mind, regardless of the passing of time. of course, this was neither the time nor the place to dwell upon such things; thus, a cant of his head would ensue, as he poses a question of his own.
❝ are you very well acquainted with her, lady kougyoku? i doubt if you'd have asked after her, were it not so --. ❞
"O-Oh! I am Kougyoku.
—Ren Kougyoku, Virion. Eighth imperial princess of the Kou Empire. It is a pleasure to meet you. And, if i may ask, you are one of Lucina’s friends, familiars?”
She couldn’t help but ask in the end; she was of course very curious about the people that were indeed the companions of Lucina’s famed tale. Ah, but she felt a bit as though she were prying a bit. Still, an honor to meet one amongst such heroes! As if she thought there were enough valiant figures in the world many more lingered, others yet to be born.

❝ a lost princess, you say? how very distressing --! ❞
ah, but it was only a fairytale; and thus, certainly no- thing that one should get too upset over. all things of this nature -- that was, the books written up for chil- dren, containing stories of fantasy and adventure and love -- had happy endings, where good would triumph over evil, and love would prevail over all. he would flip back to the first page of the book he'd be- en handed, reading the first few lines before glanc- ing back up at the scarlet-haired princess.
❝ very well, then; you've piqued my interest. get settl- ed, milady, and i'll begin! ❞

❝'Ve probably read all these books ‘bout a thousand times. It has t’ do with this los’ princess named Rapunzel an’ she’s pu’ in a tower an’ stuff. Ye go’ t’ read it t’ know the res’.❞
She felt like a child again, choosing a book for her mother to read before bedtime, snuggling up real close to her mother so she could read along side her.

❝ ah, i mean only to fine-tune the particulars of your stance. you can't properly let fly an arrow if your body isn't positioned just so. hassling as it may be -- you'll appreciate it when you hit the bullseye of your target, milady. of this much, i can assure you! ❞
what's more, to have her arms positioned the way they'd been prior for all of that time would serve litt- le more of a purpose than to tire her arms. they'd work on the particulars of the bow itself at a later po- int -- as of right now, the archer deemed this far mo- re important. it was one of the first things he'd learn- ed, after all, when he chose to study the bow, so as to make it his primary weapon. over time, he'd adopt- ed a far more liberal stance, but that was only in pa- rt of his experience; whereas robin was a first-time user of the weapon. that said, he'd not have settled for anything less than the "most" proper situation of both body and weapon. ah, the perfectionist within. regardless of the tediousness that would undoubte- dly ensue, he stood by his words: she'd appreciate it, for she'd learn the right way. and, knowing robin as well as he'd come to, that much would be enough for her. whether or not she turned out to be capable.
there's a pause as he walks around her, so that he comes to stand before her, rather than behind her. all the while, he seems to be scrutinizing, in his own little way -- despite already having identified at least one problem-area.
❝ your feet -- they're much too far from each other. in terms of distance, you'll want them only about a sho- ulder's width apart. keep them parallel to each other, as well. let's start with just this; then we'll go on. ❞
Not but a quiet, light noise of affirmation and Robin did as asked. Her stance relaxed as she had, feeling almost malleable under his touch. Amidst war, well-meant closeness was a heaven sent.
The chill was just as apparent to her and if she shuddered, she wished it would go unnoticed. For she had not felt such cold until now and despite herself, she still did not mind. Because such a chill was quelled when she angled her head towards him, when her eyes caught on his and a sliver of a smile appeared. There was still warmth in how close to him she was. No doubt did she trust him in his trade.
No doubt did she trust herself in his hands.
She watched him in curiosity, the bow from his hands now at her side. If they were not shooting… she truly knew so little of what she had asked him to show her.
“ What then…? “
Though whatever it was he had planned for her, watching him only assured what she knew. Virion was someone whose company she became elated for, who lifted her spirits in an age of destruction. She’d grown fond.

often, he found himself so lost in thought; especially amidst the war that had crept up upon their "ragtag" group, and the violence and overall fear that ultimat- ely followed behind it, like a dog at its master's heels. he was fortunate enough, thus far, to be able to say that he had not witnessed the untimely deaths of any of his comrades, just yet -- but the fear still lingered, growing stronger especially in these instances of so- lace and peace. he feared, no matter how fearless he made himself out to be; not just for his comrades, but for himself. a coward, he was branded upon leaving his home -- how suiting it was, he'd soon re- alize.
cherche's appearance, then, was more a comfort th- an it was anything else; for it allowed him to shift aw- ay from such unpleasant thoughts, and also provided him company. and who better to provide such a thing than the woman that had served his house for as long as he could recall -- the woman he trusted most?
he turns to look at her once she is beside him, and an exhale escapes him. no need to mask it; she'd see th- rough it within seconds.
❝ the same things as the rest of the camp, i'd imagine. 'tis not pleasant business that has led us to travel together, after all. -- and what of yourself, cherche? what is it th- at has you out and about at this hour, hm --? ❞
Peaceful it was, quiet yet not relaxing. Well, not exactly peaceful, but it was better than most nights. With this damned war and the battle against Grima approaching, everyone was nervous, anxious, and anything similar. At this time, some have gone to bed to relieve themselves of some stress, while others were busy tending to their armor, weapons, and whatnot.
All were thinking about the war except for she.
Instead, she thought of her past days as a vassal for Virion, the time she met Minerva, and even meeting her son from another realm. Almost a smile fell upon her rosy lips, but the atmosphere killed any happiness. Cherche walked around the area, watching a few frantically run about due to stress. A distasteful click of the tongue, she strolled away from the camp to search for some dead silence.
Surprisingly, a familiar being stood far from where she stood, so she stepped closer to the person, standing at their side.

"Pondering something?"

❝ would that i could share them with you, my boy -- but, alas, 'twas simply not to be. you've my most sincere apologies, if it helps you any --. ❞
ah, but then the mention of a bargain and the boy's very health is made; and betwixt confusion (bord- erline skepticism, rather), there is just an inkling of curiosity. did such information really mean so much?
❝ while i doubt your health hinges upon this -- i'll ent- ertain the offer, certainly. of course, inigo, it all dep- ends on what you mean to bargain. such secrets do not come cheap, you see --! ❞
“Ah, what a shame. You know, I was looking quite forward to learning your secrets.” A sad sigh escaped the boy’s mouth, in attempts to possibly trick the archer into indulging him with his requests.

“You know, I’d just really love it if possibly we can bargain on this. It’s simply imperative. It’s beneficial for my health, Virion.”
