ovid does have bangers ngl "Ah me, it’s not safe to praise your love to a friend: if he believes your praise, he’ll steal her himself. But Patroclus never disgraced Achilles’s bed: and how modest Phaedra was with Pirithous. Pylades loved Hermione, just as Phoebus Pallas," -ovid art of love ULTIMATE FRIENDGOALS also phaedra and pirithous being friends is wild them and theseus got to be the worst friend group ever 😭

“The Wedding of Ulysses and Penelope” by Jules Ferrario and engraved by A. Biasoli from Le Costume Ancien ou Moderne (1829)
Look at them being absolutely captivated by one another. Is the man speaking meant to be Icarius? Whoever he is and whatever he is saying is being completely ignored by the newlyweds, as it appears their attention is reserved only for each other.

I wish people out there would be able to pity Helen and sympathize with her cause while also being aware of the fact that the Trojan women had all the right from this world to despise her (in case the aftermaths of the Trojan War isn't already enough proof).

I just feel sorry for Ovid at this point sometimes.
Most people who go with his version, never read any of his works, only use a few lines, and spread misinformation about his work, more specificly one figure from it. And don't even aknowlige him.
No. Ovid never intented the curse as a form of protection, or gift.
No. Ovid never wrote Medusa as a priestess.
No. His telling is not the oldest, and surtently not the original.
No. His retelling is not a methapore for the Mother Goddess priestesses being hunted (the Mother Goddess theory still bleeds in many holes), and no it's not a methapore of Patriarchy becoming a thing.
And no. She is not the most tragic character, even in Ovid's tellings.

One of the things I’m grateful about for Epic is that it’s about a Greek mythological couple, but it’s not fuckin’ Hades and Persephone.
I’m tired of h + p retellings lmao -mod note

A new wave of brain rot of the Mythic Au is coming back really strong.
For context: Menelaus left Hermione and baby son Nicostratus for 15 years circa, ( he was lost at sea looking for Helen in Egypt for 5 years,he does some awful stuff ) and came back to find that his palace was over taken by his nieces Electra and Orestes , shit happens but everything turns out well...
So yeah enjoy.

The moment something bothers you, you immediately start throwing insults at your husband’s country, Skyros and loudly boast about your father’s, Sparta! You whine about being a rich woman among the poverty stricken and declare to all and sundry that your father, Menelaos, is far greater a man than Achilles! That’s why your husband hates you! -Euripdes Andromike
