1. Virginia House Races
Good news - the VA House race we mentioned in the last update took place on Tuesday and the Democrat, Jeff Bourne, won in a landslide! Virginia is an important state because it’s gone blue in Presidential races for the past 12 years, but thanks to gerrymandering and voter ID laws, 2/3 of the House is Republican. Right now there are 8 districts that Hillary Clinton won in November that currently have no Democrat challenger in this year’s House race!
ACTION ITEM: If you know any Democrats in Virginia districts #12, #10, #100, #40, #68, #42, #73, and #94, encourage them to run for the VA House this year. They can get in touch with us and we will connect them to people who can help! [email protected]

1. Virginia State Delegate Race
ACTION ITEM: Richmond, VA voters need to get out and vote for Jeff Bourne in the special election TODAY for state delegate. If Bourne loses, the Republicans will get a super majority in VA. Spread the word to any Democrat Richmond, Virginia voters you know!
2. Call for Artists
We are looking for visual artists to help us make pro-democracy posters to spread information and combat propaganda in a visual way. If this is you, please get in touch at [email protected].
3. Pressure CEOs to make a statement against the Muslim Ban
There are 18 CEOs on Trump’s economic advisory council. We need them to publicly condemn the Muslim Ban and pressure Trump to end it.

H.R. 861, a bill to eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency, has been introduced in the House.
ACTION ITEM: Call your representative (find out who yours is here) and ask them to protect the EPA.

Make your weekend plans! Last weekend tens of thousands of people around the country showed their disapproval of the Muslim Ban by protesting at airports. The regime heard the message and scaled back the provisions for green card holders, and Muslims around the world heard the message - that many Americans will fight for them. But our work is far from done, and we can’t stop until the ban has been overturned. There are many protests going on this weekend, so make your plans now.

1. Muslim ban
(This is a holdover from yesterday)
We need to pressure our representatives to obstruct everything in Congress until the Muslim Ban is overturned. Nothing can be voted on. Nothing can get through.
ACTION ITEM: If you have a Democratic representative (you have one Congressman/woman and two Senators, google to find out who they are if you don’t know already), call them at 202-224-3121 or at their state offices.
“Hello! I’m a constituent from ____. I am strongly against the Muslim Ban. It is unconstitutional and makes America less safe. I expect the Senator/Congressman/Congresswoman to obstruct every single bill in Congress until the ban is overturned. Thank you!”
If you have a Republican representative, try this:
“Hello! I am a constituent from ____. I’m strongly against the Muslim Ban. This will help ISIS recruit and it abandons the Iraqis who aided our military. I am very worried about this ban making our troops unsafe. I am asking the Senator/Congressman/Congresswoman to vote to overturn it.”

2. Secretary of Education

Betsy DeVos was voted through committee yesterday, with every Republican voting for her and every Democrat voting against. She is deeply unqualified. Whether you have Democratic or Republican Senators, you need to call them.
ACTION ITEM: Call the Congressional switchboard at 202-224-3121 or google their state office number, which is usually easier to get through on. What you say does not matter as much as the fact that you’re calling and saying it.
“Hello! I’m a constituent from ____. I am calling to strongly encourage the Senator to vote NO on Betsy DeVos. There is a bipartisan consensus that she are unqualified. Thank you!”
3. Encourage a friend to call
ACTION ITEM: Pick one friend who agrees with you politically but generally doesn’t get involved and ask them to call their Senator about either the Muslim ban or Betsy DeVos (you choose). Google their Senator’s number and send them our recommended script. People are far more likely to call if they have step by step instructions and a little friendly peer pressure.

1) SCOTUS
Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court. Gorsuch has a history of extremely conservative, radical religious opinions. He’s firmly anti-choice and anti-worker. But there’s a bigger problem - Trump has no right to nominate a SCOTUS pick at all. That right belonged to Barack Obama, who nominated Merrick Garland. Republicans in Congress refused to even give Garland a hearing, in direct violation of the Constitution. We cannot reward those tactics, or no Democrat President will ever nominate a SCOTUS justice again without also having a majority in Congress. We cannot reward the Republican Party for their unconstitutional acts.
ACTION ITEM: If you have a Democratic Senator, call them. Tell them they must filibuster the Supreme Court nominee. Democrats are so far undecided on whether or not they want to filibuster. Senator Feinstein’s office said she hasn’t received many calls about filibustering SCOTUS. So google their local offices or call the Congressional switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask for your Senator.
“Hello! I’m a constituent from ____. The Senator must filibuster Gorsuch’s nomination, which was stolen from Merrick Garland. We cannot reward Republicans’ refusal to do their Constitutional duty. Thank you!”

Today is the LAST DAY to sign up for the ACA, maybe ever. If you do not have insurance, sign up today and you will have insurance for a year. A year with insurance is better than year without. Go to healthcare.gov and sign up.
4) SUPREME COURT
At 8pm EST, Trump will announce his nominee for SCOTUS. He will probably be terrible, and we will launch into gear getting ready to oppose him (it will probably be a man). Stay tuned.
