im a sucker for player being carmens like one equal

like obviously shadowsan is just as good as her and all that but he's not really on her level in anything other than skill and even then he's probably better and worse than her at different things. and he's decades older than her

but player

like, of course he wouldn't be able to dropkick someone as well as carmen but he is a genius in tech like she is a genius in thievery. they're in the same age range and they've been friends since they were both very young. he's shown to be her one constant and fully trusted confidant, and is the only character from team red that she canonically stays in contact with after the ending of the show. they absolutely consider each other equals, im sure especially as best friends in adulthood.

like, I read this fic once where it like mentioned how in that fic after the events of the series ACME didn't really understand Player or take him seriously they just always saw him following carm around and assumed her was like her lackey, but it didn't bother him because he knew that he is absolutely her best friend, her confidant, and her equal

1. La Chèvres name title sequence. You can NOT tell me it doesn't look like he's about to pole dance. The lighting, pose, angle etc all scream he's about to slay.

2. Players voice difference in season 1 and season 4

3. The way Gray says Tchaikovsky in Crackle Goes Kiwi Caper. It's TCHaikovsky not CHAIkovsky. He is a composer, not a drink.

4. Carmen's hair care routine. There is no way it grew that luscious with hotel shampoos.

I agree, I think a lot of the fandom really likes player because of his relationship to carmen. Neither character would really exist the way they ended up without the other, and it's arguably the strongest relationship in the entire series. (Player is also the only person who canonically stays in touch with Carmen after the series.) I would argue that a big part of the appeal of Player is because of Carmen, not using him as a replacement for her. Player is also absolutely essential to the series, considering Carmen would not be able to do half as much without him.

I also think Player also is just an interesting character with a fun personality and he's easily likable.

I never got the player hype. I mean, hes cool but…hes just a guy? Who remains static throughout the whole series and exists only as audience insert?

I remember there was a discussion a while back about the CS fandom paying more attention to its white male side characters than its main character poc women. It was about mime bomb mostly and maybe chase and gray. I agreed with the sentiment but didnt rlly get the criticism cuz i never got the vibe that the fandom was overly obsessed with any of those characters. However, i feel like it can apply to player. Literally hes just a white boy. Hes just some guy.

my FAVORITE genre of fics is lowkey when carmen is under viles control player is the only one she recognizes fics. like
