hi everyone. I'm going to be leaving this account in the near future. I can feel myself slipping back into social media addiction. it's really not enjoyable to be on here; it's a stream of content that's just engaging enough to trick my brain into ignoring how vapid much of it truly is. I knew this would happen when I created the account. I am well aware of my addictive tendencies, and I'm well aware of the reality that social media is just as much a cancer on society as any addictive substance or game. but I don't regret coming here. I said what I came here to say and I'm proud of what I said. and I saw some cool art too. I probably won't be flat-out deleting since I do want to keep my posts up. more than likely imma just change my password to some shit I could never hope to remember. and maybe I'll change the associated email to a burner I'll forget about so I can't just change the password back. I wish I could say it's been fun, but truthfully it's been about as hollow as every other experience I've had with addiction. I hope this website and everyone who profits from it croaks.

literally anything to do with the doctor's origin story
99% of "plot holes" I see people point out in dr who are actually not plot holes if you simply remember that it's a fucking time travel show where time travel exists and people travel both forwards and backwards in time

yakuza is a really good example of how static characters can still make for interesting drama - and often work better in ongoing stories! the drama in almost every game in the series revolves around putting kiryu, who knows exactly what he believes and staunchly refuses to budge an inch, up against a world that has no time for honest men. the series' comedy works on the same principle. and those simple elements created one of the best video game protagonists I've seen, because they knew how to use them.

if yakuza was set in america there would be a ridiculously extensive fantasy football minigame that appears in every game even though 99% of players have no idea how it works

I'm so used to the pervy Yakuza sequences being part of minigames which reward you or part of the plot in some way that I spent like 20 min at the pole dancing club in Yakuza 3 going like "This must be... FOR something..." I forgot people are just into that

YEAH this episode ruled series 8 was so good
Time Heist being such a widely forgotten Doctor Who episode is mad. Keeley Hawes is in it. Keeley Hawes and Jenna Coleman are both big sexy in it. The computer in that episode is literally voiced by the Narrator from The Stanley Parable. By all accounts my tumblr mutuals should be all over it.

thinking about the customer last year who bought $850 of chai tea at my register and then when I was leaving an hour later I saw him unpacking the tea from his trunk accompanied by his wife who was visibly very angry with him. iron man has like 30 movies and chai guy has none. life is unfair and retail is very funny sometimes.

ok so most of my examples were from the tv series but this one is actually from the old short story collection Short Trips: A Universe of Terrors. the story was called Mauritz and it remains one of my favorite who works. absolutely not worth tracking down that book just for the one story btw, it's one of the only good things in the entire collection. but it's good enough to have stuck with me for years and if you can find a PDF online I'd recommend it. unfortunately Big Finish books are harder to find in PDF format than other OOP Dr Who since they still have the Who license even if they no longer have the rights to print books. reminder that copyright laws kinda suck!
thing I love about dr who is it just doesn't give a shit about that "power scaling" stuff it just tells stories. like yeah satan himself is a character in this show. for 2 episodes in the middle of a season. he never appears again. there are dozens of completely forgotten one-off villains who could absolutely mop the floor with any faction in the 40k universe. we've got cosmic horrors who can write you out of time instantly. we've got a guy who built an infinite mausoleum from the bones of every alternative version of himself. we've got a dude who was buried alive in a state of constant suffocation and rebirth for like, hundreds of years. and for every one of those there are a million episodes where the villain is like. a tiny little guy who couldn't hurt a fly but is somehow just as hard for the doctor to deal with. but nobody in fandom really cares about that and nobody at all really acknowledges who in conversations about like "who's the most powerful faction in fiction" cause like. that's not what the show is about. it's a cosmic horror universe that's indifferent to the cosmic horror. and I think that's beautifu;l
