i was really gonna try to write more, but i have all the lights off, my fan going, the ac on, and im still melting. so. i think im just gonna hole up in my room and see if i can confine the cold air to a smaller space lmao.

She is familiar with The Spare Room, but only through social media pictures that show up on her feed every now and then. It's not the first place she'd pick, but it is classy. She'll allow that much. Not at all the drug-induced, frenetic atmosphere she'd expect someone like Zero to enjoy.

Not like The Cathedral. She's never been there either, but she'd have to be completely out of the social media loop to not have heard at least a little about it. Her co-workers do like to gossip. Small mercies.

"Mm. I'll allow it then," she says, like she has a say at all. But whatever calm she'd managed to collect in those small few moments seems to evaporate immediately when he continues. "—Nothing. You aren't going to do anything." Firm. Maybe even a little desperate to convince herself it'll be true.

She reaches a hand up to touch her neck, remembering the last time she'd been alone on a dark street with him like this. "... Right?"

He assumed her answer would be a resounding no, but the offended reaction garners a delighted giggle. 

          “The Spare Room is nice,”          he says.          “Classy, like you.” 

Next time—dare he hope for a next time?—he’ll bring her somewhere sleazier. She would look gorgeous, and not entirely out of place, in the glow of The Cathedral. He wonders if she’s been already, if she was ever curious enough to check it out. If she’s been keeping an eye on his exploits, she knows it belongs to him. 

Maybe that would make her more likely to avoid it. But a beast can dream, can’t he? 

          “It’s not the type of place where I’d be allowed to make a scene.”         Not a violent one, anyway. Zero can make a scene anywhere.          “Too classy for whatever you’re afraid I’ll do. What are you afraid I'll do?”

personal vent under the cut, just about life. nothing here.

i really need the universe to give me a break. the job that i've been promised for the last six months is no longer happening. i told them upfront to tell me if i wasn't going to be hired just so i can have a backup plan. even after i was specifically told i was a done deal and my job was secure, they still pulled the rug out from under me. i've been trying to get on with the paper for the last five years. i'm done with it. i feel used. all of that writing i did, all of the interviews, the personal connections with the community, the time, the effort, the tears, it feels like it was all for nothing in the end. i think what upsets me the most is that they didn't even have to pay a dime. it was all through the workforce center's work experience program so my income came directly from them instead of the paper. i gave so much of my time and energy to the paper for absolutely nothing in return.

the only good that came out of it was the connections. i have a network now, at least. but god. im just. so tired of fighting. im tired of living in survival mode. every. fucking. time. i get close to the top of the hill and i can see financial security on the horizon and then BOOM, im right back at the bottom. im pivoting between despair and rage right now. grieving and bitterness. i feel lost and like the last five years have been such a waste of time that i could have put focus into something else. blugh. i know im just still processing and being dramatic, but i feel like shit. what they did was shitty. i didn't deserve to be treated that way.
