Sayori:Well, we do have ingredients, in fact! How else do you think we’d be eating cookies in the clubroom?

Monika:Uh, Sayori… Flowey wasn’t there for that part. Also, one could have assumed we bought them, like how some of us have the snacks from the vending machine.

Sayori:…Right. Sorry, ehehe~

Sayori:But yeah! It’s mostly Natsuki that does that, she does all the cooking around here. I have cooked for myself before, but.. just eggs and toast. When I tried something more complex, well…

Sayori:And Yuri’s more interested in refreshments than food. You know, like tea? Then there was this time she tried to bring-

Sayori:Wait, maybe I shouldn’t say that… But, thing is, Natsuki’s basically the main baker around here. Although… Flowey… while you aren’t “rich” yet, you probably would have had some money, considered you’re supposedly coming to visit this place. So maybe while we’re here out of sight, I can spawn some in by copying Natsuki’s ingredients, and we can say you bought them from the place you were from?

Monika:…And yet he didn’t have it with him during the club meeting…? Where was it during the club meeting? I don’t recall him having anything packed. That story would be too easy to deconstruct. Where was it all this time?

Sayori:Well, since he’s visiting for multiple days, he clearly’s been renting somewhere to stay, right? That’s our story, anyway. That’s where it was. Or he just bought it tonight, I can edit the files corresponding to one of the stores around so it looks like he really did go there. And nobody needs to know where he’s staying, anyway.

Monika:…Okay, that might actually work. Though we’ll probably have to find someplace for him anyway, if Flowey’s ingredients for food was at my place, or someone else’s, that’d raise a few red flags. …I mean, I guess there’s the player character’s house? “He” doesn’t exist anymore, so that place is… vacant. Flowey could do his baking stuff there when it comes time.

Sayori:…I mean, I guess, but let’s not tell anyone about him being there. We’re not supposed to know that, and they shouldn’t either, otherwise when I get Ivan back-

Monika:Agreed that we shouldn’t tell. But only because we shouldn’t know, again, I’m pretty sure bringing “him” back is impossible, considering both the lack of a character file, and that the player character was literally designed to be nothing more than the player’s way of interacting with the game world.

Sayori:And yet there’s clear personality and even backstory in him, and he even reacted to when things went off the rails and I-

Monika:Dynamic scripts that check certain states and spit out the most convenient-for-the-plot responses are not real characters!

Sayori:He’s more than that, at least to me! I remember all my time with him, and… I still think it’s doable to reconstruct him! …But we’re steering off course, I think we can both agree it’s not happening THAT soon… It is a lot trickier than I thought, and I’ve gotten nowhere… and there’s still plenty of stuff we need to work out now instead! Oh! Like the baking! And oh, cookies? That’s great!

Monika:When it comes to cupcakes, Natsuki usually only bakes those when something special happens. Like, in the original timeline, when the player character joined the club, and in every timeline, for the festival. Though perhaps something else could be a better choice for the bake-off, because Natsuki’s already baking cupcakes, and when it’s cupcakes vs… more cupcakes, well… Also, since those cookies seem to be what you’re best at baking, that’s probably the best. We all do like cookies too, after all. Cupcakes are kind of Natsuki’s specialty, anyway.

Monika:…Hm? How did that- Wait, those “magic anon” things work here too?

Monika…Oh, I get it! Because the two worlds are still connected, magic must have gone through the other world, got converted over through the portal, turned into a console command that spawns in the effect, and.. voila! …That’s actually pretty clever of Nat. She seems to know this very well… She must be really good at coding something like that in! …Or maybe the program transfer thing I made was even more effective than I thought and somehow works on whatever’s supposed to represent anon magic in Nat’s world. Still, what a clever solution!

Monika:…If only the anon we got did something more useful, though… Like, come on guys. We’re all supposed to be school students. Tell me, what do you think would happen if a schoolboy was seen with a gun? …We probably should just leave that in the void or something. It is NOT going into the main game world!

Monika:…Anyway, uh, justice human- wait, are you.. wait, you’re! I know about the the demo of Undertale Yellow…

Monika:I’m guessing that game actually got finished sometime after my game came out? So… does my game exist in your finished world, Clover? Or did you have some other way of finding out about me? Either way, I can say, all that stuff is in the past. I’m not like that anymore, I… saw how bad of a choice that path was… it all backfired, and… just ruined everything… And not long after that, I learned the others were just as real as I am… And in the worst way possible, as Sayori started taking the same path as I did once she gained the same epiphany I did… Though I managed to stop that, and now we’re both in the know, and doing better.

Monika:…Anyway, neither of us have a reason to be afraid of each other. Me and Sayori can back up each others’ files, so we can’t stay dead, and Flowey… apparently can access the console just like me..? I’m not sure how, but he managed it. My working theory is is has something to do with the fact he can control his game with six souls in his world, like changing the intro and stuff. Souls don’t exist here, so the line saying something like “if humansoulcount=6” (7 probably triggers the Asriel form, though maybe it specifically checks for monster souls there?) ends up failing to register, and it just gives him the counterpart to that ability here anyway. But… that’s just a tentative hypothesis, I don’t think anyone really knows for sure! Except maybe Flowey… and maybe Nat..

Monika:Plus, his file is in a format different than ours. My console can’t really read, so I could only copy it, move it somewhere, or… straight up delete it, which… I don’t have a reason to do. Plus, the way out is still here, so if for whatever reason I tried something like that, Flowey could easily just leave to his world, where the console doesn’t exist so I can’t just delete him.

Monika:Really though. You should have done better with the magic there. Giving him something that’d get him expelled from the school if he took it with him is a bad idea. Remember, we all go to school in this world! You… do remember what school was like in the surface, right? And what the world is like? How do you think they’d react to a schoolboy with a gun?!

Monika:…Other Flowey? What are you..

Monika:Wait, Flowey, you know what they-

Monika:…Oh, I get it! You probably didn’t recognize Flowey because he’s human now, ahaha~ Yeah, Nat helped him out and made him human, since it wouldn’t make sense for a talking flower to exist in this world. He’ll be a flower again after his trip here is over.

Monika:…Hm. That last asker sounds like someone who was talking to someone who played the game! …You know, the original game was basically designed as a visual novel. You know, the kind where we, the club girls, essentially all fall in love with the player character, and the player has to choose who to pursue… I… did kind of mess that all up in my attempts to spend time with the real-life player… But this seems to be someone who still thinks of the game as a traditional visual novel. I wonder if their Monika didn’t ruin the game? Or they haven’t made it to the point where I started messing with the game files and causing Sayori to…

Monika:So, to the one who asked Flowey who was “best girl”, Flowey hasn’t played Doki Doki Literature Club, it doesn’t exist in his world! So all he has is the one day he was with the club members. He doesn’t really know them enough to make those judgements yet. Plus… the effects of soullessness are probably still happening to him. Even though souls don’t exist here and me and the others can feel without one, Flowey’s still from his world, so… he’s probably still somewhat following his own world’s rules… just as a soulless human instead of a soulless flower.

(Yes, a second update. I somehow forgot about UTY’s demo predating DDLC, so I decided to account for that. At least it just so happened to be while you weren’t making Flowey posts here. The demo also reveals Clover’s name, so Monika knows them by name after all.)

(A few notes about this. Yes, Monika isn’t that scared of Flowey causing threat to her. She’s actually more worried about that ruining stuff, since him bringing that would ruin stuff. Monika could bring herself back to life, but that’d result in another restart.)

(I can see Monika trying to just delete that, but Nat already accepted the M!A, and nullifying it in one ask doesn’t really make much sense. So it’s probably a part of Flowey’s inventory because that’s how holding items works in Undertale. Due to the whole “Flowey’s file is written in a different programming language” thing combined with the way the game handles character files means Monika can’t alter that.)

(As I recently discovered, Undertale Yellow demo came out before DDLC. That means Monika knows about that. The full game came out after, so Monika doesn’t know about that, though. But she was able to deduce it probably came out due to her game existing in Clover’s world. But only the Ruins stuff she knows about, anything not in the demo she still has no clue about, though with knowledge of Undertale itself, she can make a few predictions..)

(Monika doesn’t know of the previous ask on the main blog either, since this happens at the end of the “human flowey” thing on the main blog, so anything after that, Monika doesn’t know about, since from her perspective, those things haven’t happened yet.)

(Monika also doesn’t know about her own fandom, but worked out that it clearly must exist. Also, due to her supposedly acting on her own, she could think that maybe somewhere, there was a Monika that acted differently. (There wasn’t, what really happened is a lot of the fandom just ignores the meta elements. There’s a lot of wholesome moments in the early game, then we have the Side Stories from the Plus game, taking place in a timeline where there is no epiphany, so many try to focus on those elements, treating it like a regular visual novel except that Monika happens to be self-aware and can use the console.)

(And two more times of Monika rationalizing away evidence that her world is run by a blog runner too. She doesn’t want to think she’s just an idea. At least being in a program gives some semblance of “physicality”, since the program physically exists on a real computer, and also, them breaking free from the script implies some level of real free will. Take that away by revealing that someone like me was writing everything they do in real time, that even now, they’re only acting because someone like me is writing them to and deciding all their actions, and… back into an existential crisis for Monika. So subconscious bias means she’s going to keep avoiding this conclusion, at least for a while.)

(You won’t have to worry about Flowey killing anyone in reality! He’ll love to threaten anons, but it would take more effort to get him to actually push him into shooting someone. Or more likely smacking them in the head with the gun. Even if that does happen though, luckily it wouldn’t be around or to the other girls because the askers can only shownup in the void. Or out of school. I think I’ll allow it anywhere as long as Natsuki and Yuri aren’t nearby and they’re not in the school.)

(There ar a lot of strange complications and I am glad Monika is able to rationalize them rather than realizing she is part of an ask blog. I am not ready to give her another existential crisis!!! I don’t know how I would handle that.)

(I do understand most people wanting to stick with a Monika that isn’t aware of the console, or at least doesn’t meddle with it. It makes things less complicated and more happy, although it is a big part of her character plot.)
