Hey, have you read "Ari no Manma no Anata"? It's a one-shot by Fujichika. When I read it, I was a bit intrigued by the fact that one of the characters Akatsuki Kaede (who's a butch) can be read as a nonbinary. I don't know some of the dialogue kind of gave me that idea.

Hi! Thanks for the recommendation. Since Fujichika isn't my cup of tea, I hadn't read it until now. I'm not going to lie, it was written a little silly despite the serious themes. I really liked Akatsuki Kaede. Likewise, I think she can be read as nonbinary.

I thought the story was about decentering gender/sex. Kaede feels an affinity towards traditionally masculine clothes and gets constantly questioned/harassed about it. When Yoshino Hanakawa is introduced, Kaede is under the impression that she approached her thinking she's a man. Until the last scene, Kaede's hung up on being identified as a woman because she doesn't want to be judged. When she's beaten by Yoshino's ex (?), she believes that if she had a man's body she would be able to protect Yoshino. I read it as the protagonist thinks her capacity of protecting and providing (normally attributed to men) for Yoshino is directly tied to her sex. In the end, Yoshino is the one to scare away her ex. Who is more feminine, who also has a "woman's body," and was portrayed as the damsel in distress.
