“Potential” is such a dirty word. It undermines the hard work that goes into any given accomplishment.

It also ignores the fact that we are an amalgamation of our genetic and environmental exposure, and that our capacities are often hindered by obstacles which we have had no control over, up until the moment that we become aware of their existence and understand how to overcome them.

While predispositions are always present, ability and the capacity for greatness are not innate. Saying that someone has or has not “realized” their “potential” is dismissive of everything that has to unfold for someone to develop into the beautiful individual that they are.
