teddyluin:
Bumping into Roxanne was like a safe haven for Teddy. The day so far had been tiring and stressful. Someone warm and trustworthy amongst Teddyâs close adopted family was a breath of fresh air. âIâm so sorry-not the best way to say hello,â Teddy told her with a smile. A gentle smile spread across his face as he helped prop her back up.Â
He nodded at the store and chaos around them. âI thought finding my charms books would be a bit simpler than this. Unfortunately I forgot everyone else had the same planâŚwhat are you looking for?â Â
After someone bumped into him, it not being his fault this time, he wondered if he should take a break from the shopping and wait for the other customers to weave out. âDo you need help or would you like to take a tea break and wait for more wiggle room to actually find something in here?â
âIâm looking for my potions book.â Roxanne knew that if they stayed it would be pointless. It was busy, just like her familyâs shop during the summer. So packed that she was uncomfortably close with people. Every time someone brushed a little too close to her it made her cringe. She hated packed stores, so back to school shopping was always bittersweet. Especially now that it was her last year at Hogwarts.
Looking around, she nodded. She could go for tea. The thought made her chuckle, thinking of her mother who would often brew some tea whenever she was overwhelmed. The notion was always absurd to her, but there she was, getting ready to enjoy some with Teddy.
âThat would be great, I havenât had anything to eat or drink and I think that would help me feel better.â she smiled, putting what she was holding down so she could fix her clothes. âIâm good! Iâm used to carrying heavier things when I have to restock the shelves or help Fred get something into the workshop.â

âAli, itâs fine.â Roxanne couldnât help it, she was laughing as she picked her bags up and placed whatever had fallen out of them back into them. She was just wrapping up what was left of her school shopping and picking up whatever Fred said he needed. He in turn was helping James shop for his party, and since the Weasley siblings were home alone, the shop was closed for the day so they could get whatever they needed to do done and out of the way before school actually started. Roxanne spent more time helping little first years and chatting happily with parents, some of them she already knew because she often babysat their children for some extra cash during the summertime.
Back to school time was always hectic. Everything was packed and there was a lot going on. She could see very well how some parents could get stressed out and how first years could get overwhelmed. To be honest, she was seventeen years old and she still was overwhelmed. She was a little too accustomed to Angelina and George accompanying her and Fred with back to school shopping.
âItâs my fault, I wasnât looking where I was walking.â
Alice was nice to be around - she was quieter and not as hyper as her cousins. Roxanne appreciated her, even though the girls didnât exactly know each other well enough to consider each other best friends, they did talk here and there when they had time. Especially since Roxanne was her brotherâs friend. âHow have you been?â she asked, stepping out of the way to allow some kids squeeze buy and admire something that was on display. âHas your summer been good?â
How many times could someone count the steps on the Hogwartsâ staircases before going completely mad? Before even their mind started to wander and they had to start all over again? Alice had come to the decision that it was at least 30 countings previous to this one. Thatâs just how it went before school actually started. Her family would pack up their belongings a couple of weeks before any of her classmates even thought about their first days back. It would have been excruciatingly dull if she didnât love her family with all of her heart, but there was only so much family a girl could take. Thatâs exactly what led the girl into town that day. She could count down to the exact minute that returning students would come by and start their back to school shopping trips. If she had told Professor Trelawney about it, the mad woman would probably believe that she had âthe giftâ, but Alice just knew that it was only repetition and boredom.
Alice let her hand fall onto the grey stone railing of the castle staircase. The cool touch already pleaded for her to go back to the comforts of her secret passage ways and hidden rooms drenched in warm sunlight, but the castle would not win this time. Alice turned to face the fantastical creation that was Hogwarts and gave it a knowing smile.
âYou canât keep me here forever, sillyâ She whispered.
Arriving late to seeing the first shoppers, Alice made sure to walk as out of the way as she could, but making sure to help any first years or frazzled parents. Just as she was saying her farewells to a muggle-born wizard that looked a bit overwhelmed, she bumped right into a figure, who she could have sworn appeared out of nowhere, knocking their new purchases completely out of their grasps.
âOh my gosh! Iâm so sorry! Here, let me help you with your bags.â

âTeddy!â delighted laughter erupted out of Roxanne as she let him pull her upright. She reached and grabbed the few things she had been carrying and turned her attention back towards him. The store was overcrowded, buzzing with conversation. Occasionally sheâd overhear an excited first year ask their annoyed older sibling a question and she couldnât help but smile, remembering that not that long ago that was her and Fred. âWhat are you looking for?â
She couldnât help but feel a sense of pride that she knew the Head Boy and Girl. Teddy and Victoire were popular, the coolest witch and wizard at Hogwarts but Roxanne - along with the rest of the Wotters - knew them well enough to call them names and tease them. As she stood, her eyes scanned the books around her, landing on the last one she needed and grinning as she grabbed it and held it close, almost as if it were something precious to her.
It was nice seeing someone that she didnât want to avoid. Her days of school shopping consisted of taking the long way around to avoid pointless conversation. No, she didnât keep in touch with many people - she didnât want to listen to their fake exclamations of how much they missed her. If they truly wanted to see her, they could have reached out at any given moment. Of course, she knew very well it was a two way street.
Merlin, Teddy loved visiting Diagon Alley but it was a struggle on these days. The increasing number of anticipating students shopping around for school supplies left him more feeling overwhelmed. But it couldnât be helped. It was his last year at school and was Head Boy added to that. It was an added pressure but he was sure he would deal with it well enough. Especially since Victoire was the chosen Head Girl. Knowing his closest friend would be there was comforting.Â
Stepping into the crowded bookshop, Teddy kept his gaze averted from the somewhat familiar faces that piled into the store and beelined for the section he was positive his book would be. Clearly everyone else had the same idea as well since none of them were in stock. In his narrowed focus on the possibility of not having the required reading, he failed to notice the other person rounding the shelves from the other side before colliding into them.
âMerlin!â he exclaimed, a little more loudly than intended. Teddy ran a nervous hand through his hand and immediately bent down to help the other person. âSorry, sorry-I am so sorry. I wasnât expecting you there.â

itsyourgirlandie:
Andie had several motives for entering the shop. The first was that it was God awful hot and she was pretty sure she was coming close to melting even underneath her thin tee shirt. The second, was that she heard they had gotten new things in stock and Scorp had gotten too comfortable lately and she was bored. Third, was that Carina was similarly comfortable and Andie was usually mad at her (she didnât have anything in particular right then but she knew it would come up, so she might as well be prepared) and knew Weasley products would be even sweeter revenge.Â
She had apparently walked in at the perfect time if chaos was what she was looking for, and so she watched the whole scene unfold with faint bemusement. Andromeda couldnât say she was particularly familiar with Roxanne, but sheâd come to be friends with enough of the Weasleys and Potters to at least know who she was and commit to the decision to like her. At her offer, she brightened even more.
âI would have gone with you just for the fun of it, but if you can throw in some ideas to torture my siblings Iâll be particularly enthusiastic for it.â
âYou can use these damn squirting flowers from hell.â Roxanne glowered in the general direction of the scurrying prankster, her scowl replaced with a bright smile when they heard delighted giggles. Thatâs what the summertime was all about - having fun, laughing and not caring about the consequences. While she was soaked, she couldnât help but think she preferred that to sitting in the sweltering heat all day. âWe have a lot of new things, most of them made by Fred and I. Weâre having a contest, you know. Who can make and sell the best pranks before school starts. I donât want to brag, but...Iâm winning.â oh, she could brag about that all day if the other let her. Though they werenât close friends, and Roxanne knew very well that bragging wasnât becoming.
Grabbing a bag of candy floss that was on display, roxanne tore off a piece and popped it into her mouth. âWhat do you have in mind?â She knew Scorpius only though Albus, and he seemed nice. Definitely not all doom and gloom like the other Slytherins she knew, it was a good change. He was different, and that wasnât an entirely bad thing.
âI recommend not doing anything with fire, though. I destroyed Mumâs new fancy couch last week and sheâs still mad at me, I got a howler this morning.â

roxanne.
the potter girlâs expression visibly brightened at the sight of her cousin. perhaps even more so at the treat being offered. if lily had been a bit more polite, then she might have had some hesitation in taking the cold treat from her cousin. but, being as hot as she was, she didnât hesitate in grabbing the ice cream into her hands and taking a huge bite. her lips tugged into a bright, thankful smile at roxanne, â thank you, roxy. i was literally about to die. â definitely a dramatization, of course. but, she DID feel like she was about to expire in the summer heat at the very leastâeven if it was probably far from the actual truth. she gave her a soft smile, â how is your shopping going for school? â
She couldnât help but laugh. If it were anyone else, Roxanne probably would not have offered her sweet treat, however she had a soft spot for all of her cousins and she had no shame in admitting it. âUm...well...to be honest, I didnât last very long in the heat.â she admitted with a sheepish grin. âI got maybe...five...six things off the list? Itâs just so hot and the stores are all so crowded - mainly with nervous first years and excited and demanding mothers who demand the best of the best for their children.â she shrugged, placing the bookmark in whatever she had been reading and pushing it aside. âFredâs waiting until later and that sounds like the reasonable thing to do, but I donât want to wait. I want to get it out of the way so I can focus on something else for a while.â

âI agree. You have to let me borrow it after youâre done, Rosie.â Roxanne had accompanied her cousin and promised it would be a quick trip. In and out, but it was hard for two bookworms to simply go in and out. âI already have what i need.â she nodded towards a stack that was on the floor next to her, along with some she most definitely did not need for school but it would be a fun little read. Well, fun for her. âFred still hasnât picked up what he needs.â she sighed dramatically, standing and absent mindedly tracing a design on a front cover of a book that laid on the table. âI have to get it for him, I think he forgot itâs almost time for school.â
âThis is definitely my favorite part of going back to schoolâ she spoke as she looked through different books in the shelf, a warm smile spread across her face. Flourish and Blotts was her favorite place in Diagon Alley, the store would always fill her with a sense of safety, one she completely adored. âOhhh, I hadnât seen this one beforeâ she murmured as she picked one of the texts on top of a pile. Â

maryofcattermole:
Mary wasnât one to pull pranks on people. She usually stood quiet as someone else managed to fool others enough for them to fall in their game. She was instead calmer and therefore more boring. Mary hated it. This year was gonna be different, sheâd put all of her effort on it and would manage to deviate her ways into something a bit more entertaining. She wanted to start living, and despite her cousinâs advice, Mary was so desperate she didnât feel like going step by step, rather making advance in strides.
Weasley Wizard Wheezes was one of the most popular stores for young people. She would always see their products being used by her classmates, often giving them a free pass to detention. And detention was worth it, wasnât it? If you were having fun in new exciting ways, it had to be. So, as she walked into the store, feeling ecstatic, she heard the strangest noise and a few seconds later a soaked Roxanne Weasley spoke to her. âUhm, yeah, thatâs why Iâm hereâ Mary nodded, an awkward smile tugging at her lips, and after Roxanneâs petition she added: âI wouldnât mind going with you. Though offering free stuff doesnât sound like an agreement that would benefit your family.âÂ
âOh donât worry, itâs fine.â Roxanne waved a hand dismissively. âAnything you want.â it was interesting, especially since she didnât seem the pranking type. She had seen her around the halls at Hogwarts a few times and in all honesty she seemed the shy type of girl that would be pranked more than doing the actual pranking. Then again, it was always the quiet ones people had to look out for. Maybe she wasnât all books and homework. Maybe she was just as bad as James and his gang...as soon as she the thought crossed her mind she couldnât help but laugh. No one was as bad as those boys.
She gestured towards the shelves with the newest displays. It was kind of insane at the speed her father pumped out new pranks. It seemed like weekly something new was out. It was cool though - good for business. It never failed to make Roxanne smile when she noticed the varying ages in the customers they recieved. â:Thereâs something out here for everyone. Want me to help you look before we head out? The day is young.â while it did get dark faster during the summertime, the girls had more than enough time to kill before going and getting school shopping done. âItâs no problem at all.â

ofjonahs:
fingertips danced over an array of brightly colored âsweetsâ with an irrefutable reverence. devious intent hid itself well under the facade of pretty pictures and one-liners, making them all the more appealing. if anything, he was reminded of beetles, painted in vivid warpaint to forewarn unappealing side-effects. broken from his reverie, he looked up to shoot roxanne a lopsided grin â before she was promptly soaked. for a brief moment, he tried to bite back a grin, to stifle laughter for her sake. it didnât last. snickers turned to outright laughter, eyes crinkling in unabashed humor. what was the fun of things if you couldnât laugh at yourself ??Â
faux contemplation played on his features, and then, â-never mention what ?? â he turned from her for a moment, snagging a box of glow in the dark gum. âdeal ?? â not that heâd deny her even if she refused him. a friend in need, as the saying goes. âyou lead, iâll follow. i may even be persuaded to help carry things, if you say please.â he threw a wink in her direction. â-though, i might insist we stop to tomes and scrolls. theyâve just got a new book in on relations between 4th century wizards and beings. it sounds pretty brilliant. âÂ
âHm...okay. Pretty please hold some things for me. Iâll even throw in a ice cream sundae and a movie.â his laugh was infectious, she couldnât help but laugh herself at the situation. Of course, things like that never happened to anyone else. Only Roxanne because luck seemed to be against her whenever she was working at the shop. âWell since youâre coming with me, I think we should stop there first. Itâs only fair. No matter what I say, donât let me stay in there too long.â Roxanne loved reading and would most likely spend hours in the store if left unattended, and while she truly desired to do so, the long list of things she had to buy meant she could not.
As the two left the store, she nudged her friend playfully and flashed a small grin. âAre you going with anyone to Jamesâ party?â she was genuinely curious, especially since the girls began to chat about having âdatesâ. Why they needed dates seemed pointless to her, especially if the whole of Hogwarts was invited. The party would be any day now and Roxanne seemed to be the only one of the Wotter kids who didnât have an outfit or someone on her arm. âIâm not, I donât even have an outfit. Iâll have to ask Vic for one.â

âYou look like you need this more than I do, Lils.â it was an insanely hot day and Roxanne had to pick up just a few more things, so she left her familyâs group. The hunt for âa few more thingsâ became an hour and a half stay in a store and at least five more books that she did not need but she definitely wanted. It was also a horrible day to be out and about in general, and since the ice cream store had been packed she assumed everyone thought so as well. âCome sit, I can get more when the line dies down. Youâre just in time - I forgot i had this, it would have melted if you got here later.â she was also disheartened at the amount of people waiting, she really, really wanted her cookie dough ice cream - but to be fair, she had been sitting in the coolest spot of the shop for about five minutes so she wasnât as hot as her cousin.
it was horrible outside. the air was hot and muggy. it hadnât exactly been a good day for the potter children to go find their school things. and yet, currently lily was melting in the middle of diagon alley in desperate need of a COOL DOWN. in more ways than one. irritation read crystal clear on the gingerâs face as she tried to pull hair away that stubbornly clung to her neck. then, there was a bit of hope as she saw the ice cream shop nearby. eager to find something to cool herself down, she dashed away from whatever it was her family was doing at the moment in trade to enter the shop. only to be disheartened when she saw the amount of people inside. the girl let out a huff, â honestly.. iâm going to melt into a puddle before i manage to cool off. â

âWelcome to -â her greeting was cut short when she just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time yet again. Someone decided to squirt their friend with one of the newer pranks George had introduced to the shop, they had ducked and now Roxanne was soaking wet. Well, that was a way to deal with the heat. She sighed, pushing her wet hair out of her eyes. Both the kid who hid and the other who was the cause of her now sour mood had been quick to leave before Roxanne could even say a word to them. âMerlin - anyways, Welcome to Weasley Wizard Wheezes, technically itâs my job to tell you that McGonagall doesnât want anything of ours on campus but...â she sighed, looking over her shoulder to make sure Angelina was out of ear shot. âA little prank wonât kill anyone, Iâm assuming thatâs what youâre here for since everyone is back to school shopping.â
She was about to step out, too. Roxanne liked doing her shopping before Fred and usually her parents came along, but they were busy and now she was âold enoughâ to go on her own. Now that she was wet and the incident would be comedy gold for Fred for at least the first two months back at Hogwarts, she didnât know if she wanted to go back and change...but she know she had to. Fred always made shopping a pain and she knew that if she didnât leave soon, her brother would tag along and that was something she did not want to deal with.
âUgh...â she groaned, shuddering at the feeling of her wet clothes sticking to her skin. âListen...Iâll give you whatever you want for free if you go shopping with me.â Roxanne tried her best puppy dog eyes, though gave that up and laughed. âIâll move it to a years worth of free stuff if you never mention what just happened to anyone ever. Just...donât tell anyone about our little deal. I donât want everyone asking me for free pranks.â

âBeing a brat isnât very becoming.â Roxanne retorted with a roll of her eyes. Typically Angelina would take time away and help both her children do the back to school shopping. She couldnât - and since Fred and Roxanne were âold enoughâ, they were pushed outside of the house early in the morning with their lists and a promise to not overspend or buy something they truly did not need. How and why Roxanne ended up in the store was beyond her, but she found herself admiring the jewelry - it just happened to be that the piece she had been saving up for was the one Eva was looking for.
While very mellow compared to her siblings, she never held her tongue. Roxanneâs mouth usually got her into trouble, just like it would now. Wouldnât be the first or last time either. Maybe thatâs the lesson her parents would learn that day - never send your children out all day during the busiest time of the year. Her arm was sore from holding her bags - and she couldnât help but notice the other girl was lugging some heavy ones around herself. Still, the only difference between them was that Angelina would still insist on her and Fred carrying their bags unless they got absolutely too whiny.
Huffing, she crossed her arms and tried her best to calm herself down. It didnât work, and the words slipped past her lips before her brain could catch up and scream at her that arguing with a Greengrass - especially now - was a bad, bad idea. Bad for her, bad for business...just overall not a good thing for a young witch to be doing. âLook - I get it, youâre some kind of Wizarding Princess, but that really gives you no right to be rude. Weâre all tired, weâre all busy, it doesnât make you any better than the rest of us.â
âJust move, Roxanne.â Thatâs what she told herself. Two steps to the left and both girls could admire it in peace. But for some unspeakable reason, she didnât want to move. She didnât want to look like she was easily intimidated by anyone, especially from a girl that she barely even knew. In hindsight though, Roxanne would not have moved if they knew each other well, either.
Eva has never gone to Diagon Alley for her supplies alone before. If she had gone at all, she had been accompanied by her mother, Anton, or Evangeline. This time, however, Catherine Greengrass was busy with campaign details, Anton was in a mood, and Evangeline had been out of touch ever since her family left for their vacation.
It felt surreal standing in the streets of Diagon Alley, with bags over her arms rather than being charmed back to the Greengrass estate by her mother. She seemed to feel all those other Diagon Alley days as she stood there on the cobbled street. Nostalgia didnât suit her, however. When she was here in a year, it would be in a new life and a new world and days like this wouldnât matter.
She didnât want to think about the list of textbooks in the pocket of her robes just yet, and in an effort to distract herself from her strangely emotional thoughts she wandered into the curio shop near where she stood. The bell above the door rang softly as she entered, and her shoulders tensed in response. This was not exactly the sort of place that a Greengrass would frequent, but the collection of delicate silver jewelry she had seen through the window had caught her eye.
She was distracted by the delicate detailing on the bracelet she was examining, and she hadnât been aware of the other person in the store until she felt them close to her. Chagrined, she scolded herself for not paying attention. Outside, however, she was as calm and collected as ever.
âSnooping isnât very becoming,â she drawled without looking up from the delicate jewelry. âOtherwise, you can look when Iâm done.â

Roxanne loved visiting muggle London. It was refreshing, being somewhere nobody knew her name. Of course she loved her home, but since Angelina and George really began cracking down on getting things done at the shop and Fred - being pesky and stupid as always - managed to leave the house before the shop opened which meant Roxanne couldnât really enjoy the summer as much as she truly wanted to. Now that it was almost ending, her parents decided it was only fair to give roxanne free roam, especially since it was her last one she could enjoy as a carefree girl before having to figure out exactly what she wanted to do for the rest of her life.
That was an upsetting thought that went away as quickly as it came. She had her shopping list folded neatly in her pocket, she planned to get some things scratched off if she didnât get back too late. So far, she had enjoyed a movie that had been spoiled for her by her cousins and had purchased some books she could add to her always growing stack on her bedside table that threatened to fall over and kill her or her cat at any given moment. She ate what remained of her popcorn and strolled, people watching and making a mental note of what places she wanted to go to when she came back, probably when they were less busy.
Her reverie was broken when someone had grabbed her hand and began tugging her along. âOi! Fr- oh, youâre not Fred.â she had been prepared to give who she assumed was her brother a good talking to, but Roxanne noticed it wasnât him rather quickly. It didnât make her any less annoyed, but since she saw no point in resisting or saying no, so she huffed and kept up the pace as well as she could.
Well, there went her relaxing summer day. Right out the window, along with all the nice, not rude questions that she had stored in her mind for people that didnât know Roxanneâs temper was not the best. âWhere are we going and do we have to run?â Her brain had finally processed that he was one of Jamesâ best friends, which only meant that she would be in for a day of trouble making and would not be back in time for any back-to-school shopping.
DUCK AND RUN 28.08.2022 // OPEN
So this is what it felt like when time was against you. People on the streets passed by too slowly, and the sun set far too quickly. As soon as you felt warm, the moon was overhead, and the clock was reminding you that this silver hour, a sliver after midnight, was no longer a sign of longevity but a marker of another day dead.Â
Maybe he was being dramatic, but Jarrett doubted it. As much as he wanted to get on with the rest of his life, he knew that this was the last summer in which he could simply enjoy life. He had no obligations (save the supplies list shoved deeply in his pocket). This was a summer of pure want, and while he had certainly made a few memories, he never wanted it to end. One morning, he decided to go to Paris. He rode a Muggle train across the Channel, hopped off, spoke broken French (and even that was kind), and fell asleep by the Seine (only to be woken up by a homeless wanderer at 3am). The day after, he took the Flu to Jamesâ house, convinced Jonah to join, and made the marvelous decision to mingle alcohol and quaffles.Â
Today, he wanted to explore. Heâd taken off into the heart of London, intent on dragging someone into his adventures across the capital. Stranger, friend, he didnât really care. He wanted to be a part of the culture that had lost him his home and inheritance, and he wanted to enjoy it. He wanted to forget that he was graduating this year, that afterwards he had to put his life on course based upon need rather than desire.Â
The thought churned his stomach, and Jarrett made up for it by stepping up onto the bridge railing. It was a thirty foot drop to his right and a four foot step back to civilization to his left. He stepped forward, reveling in being on the cusp of something. Then he caught eye of neon yellow, a blob that was content with moseying through the crowd until someone was standing head and torso above it. Jarrett took to running along the railing, dodging columns with a light step until reaching the end of the bridge. He assimilating with the crowd, making a path of his own. Tourists cleared out of his way one by one, but there was someone with a paper in their hand and their eyes upon the cityscape. Jarrettâs shoulder clipped theirs, and without thinking, he grabbed their hand, tugging them along with him.Â
âCâmon, keep up!â he urged, ducking into a side alley.Â
This was the spirit of summer.Â
