How to make an elevator pitch
My elevator pitch:
“Hi, my name is Roxy Lei, It’s very nice meeting you. I’m currently a second-year student of the Interior Design Program at Ryerson University. I'm a determined and creative person specialized in modernism design and furniture design, I’m proficient in using professional software such as Photoshop and AutoCAD. As a girl born in China and studying in Canada since high school, I have some special understanding in how to reflect different cultures in my design works. Also I’m fluent in both Mandarian and English, and able to do basic communication in Japanese and Spanish, I believe these will benefit me in my future collaborative projects. I’m looking to further my experience in design, let’s get in touch, I’d love to know more about you and your company.”
A personal elevator pitch is a brief statement about yourself, it’s like giving other people a short speech of self-introduction, but it is more than just an introduction of yourself. Normally, your elevator pitch should not exceed 1 minute. Having a good elevator pitch in such a short period of time is not that easy for many people. I have done some research on how to create a good elevator pitch, here are some useful steps. First, you should quickly let the person know who you are, what you do and what your expertise is. By doing this step, you will easily identify yourself to others, remember to start with a simple statement that would quickly grab the attention of the other person. Then what you need to do is to keep the other person engaged, explain why you want this opportunity, so the other person can understand what your purpose is. And right after you’ve explained your purpose, you can clarify your passion and commitment in doing this job, and once again mention what special skills you might have/ what makes you unique. And don’t forget to include a call for action, making the other person take action after your conversation should be your ultimate goal, sometimes even just an exchange of business cards might help you a lot.

I used an add-on software called disconnect to see who are tracking me while I’m visiting websites. It shows me that there are 24 other websites are tracking me while I’m on Amazon.

How would you search for an exact word or phrase?
When you want to search for an exact phrase, you should enclose the entire phrase in quotation marks. This tells Google to search for the precise keywords in the prescribed order.
2.How would you search for something on a specific site?
Simply add “site:time.com” (or “site:nbc.com” or whichever site you want to search) after your search term, and you’ll get all the instances of that term on that particular site. Results from the rest of the web will be filtered out.
3.How would you correctly search for a definition?
Streamline the dictionary process by using, for example, “DEFINE: mortgage.” For words that appear in the dictionary, you’ll be able to see etymology and a graph of its use over time alongside the definition. Google will even sift the web to define slang words or acronyms.
4.How would you search for a specific product available within a specific price range?
If you are looking for a product in a specific price range use '..'. For example, search the web for the pages with the text 'Blackberry Playbook', and a price range from $150 to $350.
5.How would you search for a specific filetype?
For finding a specific file type, simply use the ‘type:’ command, followed by the file extension. For example, you can find .docx files by searching ‘type: .docx’.
6.How would you include or ignore words in your search?
If you want to include some words in your query, you can override the stop word exclusion by telling Google that it must include specific words in the query. You do this with the + operator, in front of the otherwise excluded word. For example, to include the word "how" in your query, you’d enter +how. Be sure to include a space before the + sign, but not after it. You can exclude words from your search by using the - operator; any word in your query preceded by the - sign is automatically excluded from the search results. Remember to always include a space before the - sign, and none after.
7.How would you find sites/pages similar to an existing one?
If you want to find a similar site/page, just use the word ‘related:’ and then the site. For example, “ related:www.time.com”.
8.How would you confirm the exact form of a quote even if you were missing some of the words?
Typing the quote and replacing the missing words with an asterisk(*). Then you can find the exact quote you are looking for. For example, “To be or not to *”.
9.How would I search for pages containing two connected words?
To search a page containing two connected words, simply type the first word followed by “+” and then the other word. For example, “small+laptop”.
10.How would you search for social media content containing a specific tag?
To search for a social media content containing a specific tag, you can type in a hashtag(#) in front of your tag/word. For example,“#photography”.

Let’s talk about some digital etiquette on social media. Author Julie Lythcott-Haims said, “Social media has the power to connect and heal ”.  We’re receiving so much different information online, but obviously not all of them are acceptable for us. If you disagree with some topics or people’s opinions online, it's easy for people to forget their manners. People tend to be brave while they have a secret identity to hide behind on the internet, the word “flaming” is an interpretation of people insulting each other online. To avoid flame wars, we should remind ourselves to behave like we were in real life, and remember to treat people what we want to be treated. Don’t let your emotion control you, stay calm. Digital etiquette is not only about being polite to others, it’s also about making your communication clear. A good way to avoid being misunderstood is to reread your text before you send, check your grammar and spelling is also essential under some circumstances. We should be responsible for the things we said on social media and should have the ability to tell what’s right and wrong. Think before you repost anything so that you won’t accidentally spread the rumors and misleading more people. Keeping social distance is crucial during virus outbreaks. While using social media, it is also important to respect others' privacy and not cross the border. Some fanatic fans would hack celebrities' phones or computers to get their personal information, such behaviors are actually breaking the law. We need to be careful while posting others' photos, even if they are your friend or family. It is basic etiquette to ask people’s permission first before posting their photos.
