Night falls on the prairie, showing off the mostly-complete multiple parallax backgrounds script in action! Some of the more dramatic maps have more layers, but this is the basic one for the prairie.
Once we get all the sound design stuff sorted, there will also be an audio cue (like a wolf howl) before it happens so that the panning effect isn’t startling to the player.

Believe it or not but the game is getting really close to it’s completion. After we took a break out of personal reasons, things are now getting back with full steam.
I’ll give my best to have the game finished at the end of Jan. 2017. This is not a final release date or a promise it’s simply a well educated guess.

So I’ve been totally in the zone on this project lately, and the only reason this blog hasn’t been flooded with new feature updates is because a lot of the stuff I’m working on involves big ol’ spoilers. Or, well, technically not spoilers, but I don’t want to spoil too many of the features before release, y’know?
Anyway I was coding and spriting until 3:45 AM today… debugging, finishing up loose ends, and all that. Here’s a fun little detail… slightly randomized baby-talk when you give affection to your pets. It even changes a little depending on gender, the player won’t call a female dog “good boy” and will refer to themself with different terms depending… stuff like that. It’s only a few lines of code, but I thought it was more fun than the hearing the same thing every single time. I intend to include a lot of little details like that to make the world feel more lush and engaging and alive.
…Also check out that shiny new HUD, fireplace, and stove! Yeahhh!Those are just the tip of the iceburg, too… (Gee, why does the house look so barren today?)
And it seems like an obvious design choice in retrospect, but I’ve changed it so that the clock is always paused when you’re indoors. This a) makes the game’s day considerably longer, since the clock is no longer counting down on you while you feed your cows, b) gives players more of a chance to explore at their leisure without having to watch the clock all the time, and c) allows more complex daily NPC movement schedules without turning the schedule code into a complete rat’s nest. Only a little baby rat’s nest, which I’m okay with. Which, by the way… coding for schedules is well under way! Core of it is probably 80% done. We’re just waiting on getting some more sprites finished so that the code can be showed off properly. :]

Hi everyone~!! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ I’m pretty much finished with every CG for this chapter minus backgrounds, which won’t take too long. Just deciding on whether I should scrap a few or not since most aren’t really necessary. 
This had a border since I’m really fond of those, but I might not include it since it looked a bit cluttered. On the bright side the titlescreen is now animated. It’s not just Noël blinking, though it wouldn’t be too out of character.

- Lavender  v1.03 -
Lavender got some updates, mainly includes bugfixes.
Changes:
Audio balancing.
Added descriptions to the statues on the “Beginning” floor.
Tried fixing the puzzle on the “Plea” floor.
The “Extra” titlescreen option password is no longer case sensitive.
Made obtaining certain items more consistent.

birthday update
As promised, here’s a little “““release date””” (no) progress update. As of a week ago: “Actually dying at uni right now. I desperately need a reading week. Or a hobby week. Whatever. т_т Not an awful lot of game development going on at the moment.” That still sort of holds. However. - Rummaged through my folders and tried to find all the scattered art I’ve done. Resized a few nice pictures to fit the game’s resolution. They might appear! This actually made me feel good about my old art and all the work I’ve put into this story over time. The illustrations are a mix of traditional and digital art and the style varies quite a bit. (What is consistency. An illusion, that’s what.) I’ll try to put more effort into concept art in the future, with the idea that I might just implement it directly into the game ^ ^ When I actually have time to sit down and draw It’s actually possible to resize most things to 320x240 with some trickery. I thought it wouldn’t look good, but it’s ok.
- Consequently, conquering the show/hide picture commands. You can do some pretty neat things with pictures. - Made a new sprite variation for Arnika. It looks kinda like a bubble around her.  Then I locked myself out of my own room for 3 hours…D: <-not even relevant, just hilarious Still need to code what this bubble does, and hopefully make a little animation for it.

- Starting to implement a game mechanic called “Dreaming”! ..which I’m not yet completely sure what to do with. But it’s, yes, a remnant of the YN fangame idea. Or maybe just a way to insert more random scenes into an already pretty surreal world. It’s extra work for sure, but I like what it adds to the story. Some dreams might end up as optional, easter-egg-type things.
- Got an offer to help me out with sound effects and maybe music! <3 Excited.
- School is close to being done (excluding battles for now). I’ll try to wrap it up soon and finally move on to the next area. Wonder if I have oversaturated it with puzzles and events… The next areas might be a bit smaller, actually. Schools are just huge.
- I have a save point, a dreaming point… Need to think what the recovery point should look like. Something that would stand out and be one of the main motifs. Hmm. Also want to start making more pixels soon, like battlers or facesets for the party members.
That’s about it for today! Thank you for following this blog, and happy birthday to my Arnika. I’ll try to draw some cute birthday art, but that might be late because assignments. But I’m sure she’ll understand…

This is something I put together in VXAce in the course of a couple of days, since I have had remarkably little time to work on games lately and I figured I’d do something to keep myself busy. Maybe I’ll make a working game out of it someday.

(please excuse the quality if it’s off, I haven’t quite figured out tumblrs size/res poop)
Man, so many people followed me today, I’m about to pass out! ;;
And to show those who’re interested that I’ve actually made some progress until now, I wanted to post Costa’s sprite! The sprites are kept very simple, like the maps, but I’m not sure if I’m gonna keep them that way. Something seems off. I’m probably going to get rid of the sharp black edge since I’m trying to avoid the color black alltogether, haha. 
I actually made some more sprites for different characters, but I won’t post them until I posted an introduction post for them. (3x “post” in one sentence, nailed it)
On a side note: omg, i’m so happy people actually care about my story what the heck why what whyyy ♥

Maps and zooms!
Half the maps for the demo are prototyped, and I’ve also managed to add something I’ve always liked, that is the characters changing sizes as they get closer to the camera. It adds a nice sense of depth. I gotta refine how it works, but so far, so good!
