I did not hear Butterly for the first time until I was nearly 18 and yet something about the tune is... nostalgic. Like an old friend that puts a smile on your face, despite the songs semi-somber tone depending on the lyric translation you read

Anf the fact they reused the SAME theme song for Adventure, 02 and Tamers?

My mind was blown, first time I watched the subbed version of the Piledramon DNA and having Beat Hit time PERFECTLY with the Desperado Blaster barrage just before the end of the sequence

And as much as I love the music... fuck did they censor the hell out of the characters and themes of the stories down the drain

And its also led to big hatedoms in the English speaking fandom. The changes they made have made a lot of the western fanbase demonise Davis/Daisuke from 02 and praise TK/Takeru like he is some godly star

It is flipping insane how much they changed characters to cause such a massive vitriol

And the music is the most obvious example of it

I can’t believe people are still surprised by this. Anime was just starting to become popular in America and they changed OPs because they wanted something catchy to appeal to kids. Butterfly is the better song but I don’t think it would be popular with kids. Another reason is the rights for the song and trying to match the lyrics to the original Japanese song would be hard. Making an original song was probably easier. Sad but true.
