               『♔』― THE CONFIDENCE of Sora’s sinister look-a-like frayed his nerves. His heart beat an uneasy staccato in his chest as his brow furrowed, cobalt hues finding the floor. How much of the light… was his own? The question rattled in his brain like a set of dice, bringing his uncertainty to the surface. The visage of his island friends flickered across his memory. What if… Vanitas was right? He so steadily announced that his friends were his power, so what if that was true of the light in his heart? What if the only reason he had light at all was because of them? The very thought made him tremble, hands clenching into fists.

❛ SHUT UP! ❜ he screamed, voice cracking in a fury that surprised him. He flung one hand to the side, the other clutching his chest. Vanitas was successfully getting under his skin, and Sora couldn’t stand it. ❛ What do you know about light, Vanitas?! Maybe.. the light in my heart does belong to my friends. But that’s even more reason to protect it! They are my strength, it’s true. Without them… I.. I’m nothing.

But I’d never expect someone like you to understand that. ❜

     ❛ 𝐘𝐎𝐔'𝐑𝐄 𝐈𝐍 a position of power, sora. ❜     he leaves where he’s standing to trace a loose and slowmoving circle around the other, wide and unobtrusive, yet cornering with its repetition. still commanding some attention, lest one find himself a sitting duck.     ❛ uniquely so. ❜

     ❛..see, i was never told this, but when dealing with hearts, half-full or not, you come to learn a thing or two.          ――turns out, you have some pretty fetching ace cards up your sleeve. ❜     he presses on, hinting at the extraordinary with an absent tone neglecting the strangulating magnitude of his presence as he tightens his wandering circle. black arms fold. he walks like he’s killing time; like someone untouchable. hard amber barely acknowledges sora, ever, in fact falls on anything but the other, as each footfall kicks dirt up off the dry earth.       maybe this is a lesson best taught through example, as vanitas is one of only two currently conscious enough to tell of this tale, and the other - xehanort - he supposes sora will never listen to. if nothing sinister, then perhaps a morbid curiosity compels the raven to goad him further; see what happens, not that it matters personally. vanitas will be gone before the husk ventus’ reunited heart leaves behind decides what to do with itself, yet the devastation one can so readily bring to this fragile heart proves far too galvanising a force to pull away from indulging in. 

     he slows his circling to a stop behind sora, features now divested of their unfocused front and now sharpening into something deep and bleeding. the heart rots, yet it has its answers. perchance it is only from that lonely island of insanity does one ever witness the truth and the end of these stories; choking up black water, around that formless, unfeeling knowledge.      ❛ just what do you think happens to a heart once it’s ripped apart,                                 like yours is soon to be? ❜

     𝐎𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐍 𝐀 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐕𝐄𝐋, if only in his own mind, for once vanitas is dwarfed into a retreat at speed, features wholly shirked of all resolve or tact and instead showcasing blind fear as the other ambles madly behind him, loudly insisting he succumb to this fate.      quick thinking affords him a way out and he snatches it, stops immediately in his tracks, and ducks, bracing himself for the impact of the blonde’s legs as they crash into, and then tumble over his folded form. not even a passing glance is spared to see if he survived, nor a huff of apology, before the raven scatters to flee in the opposite direction, leaving ventus in a heap.

My Opinion on;

character in general:  in all honesty i never really had much of an opinion about vanitas other than the fact that he was an annoying little shit to fight ( enya vc: too slow?? TOO SLOW?? COME BACK HERE SO I CAN KICK UR A— ) and he liked to talk trash and tbf, the fandom’s various interpretations ( read: meme-fications / woobifications ) of his character didn’t exactly help ://. i mean, he was only ever there as an antagonist to stir the pot, so to speak and to Bring Angst Onto Ventus, so most of his scenes just had me like “ ugh you again yeah ok x-blade, blah blah, ur darkness, whatever, “ BUT i will also say that being on the dash and reading metas have made me come to appreciate his complexity a lot more in the last few months – like the way he was created and how he is is actually quite tragic if you think about it, he’s literally nothing but negative emotion and can’t feel / induce anything but that despite having a heart and his ending is like a poignant message that not every heart can or wants to be saved, despite the fact that he’s a victim of xehanort’s machinations much like everyone else. 

how they play them:  every time you talk about vanitas, and every time i see your writing on the dash just makes me appreciate the character more and more. i really, really love that you don’t redeem him, that you stick to his essence of willingly choosing the darkness and you write that in such a visceral, raw way i can’t help but be a little bit in awe —- and more than that, it doesn’t come off as tropey/caricaturist at all. he has depth, he has motivations, he has multiple well-thought out facets and just ghhhh i love.  coming from someone who loves writing irredeemable assholes and dark stuff, it’s really tough sometimes to write one in rp without softening them up in favor of interactions and yet here you are, executing it flawlessly.  plus all the eldritch elements you’ve added to your vanitas interpretation just pleases me immensely and now i literally can’t see him as anything but eldritch tbh ……. 

the mun: you indulge my eldritch/bloodborne cravings and like writing the same fucked up shit i like so, you’re kinda stuck w/ me forever.
