Devlog Nº2 - some more design stuff and functional UI/menus
With the end of the month arriving, we have some more things to show! We've done a lot of progress and are almost finished with all of the visual and functional part of the ui and menus.
Menus are the least fun part, especially if you want to completely change how they look from the default renpy and are learning how to do it as you go.
Basically rearranging renpy's default organs until it looks the way we want and hopefully not break something along the way.
We've been abusing the hell out of using images as buttons, and where we couldn't figure out how, we went around by making a custom font to replace any text buttons to match the drawn ui. Making a custom font you can type with and renpy would read the file of was another riddle to solve, but we liked how it turned out.
The gallery is (almost) fully functional now and basically on hold waiting for the cgs and endings that will be unlockable, with the characters' profile descriptions also gradually unlocking as you go through their routes.
(These two will still have some more revisions on how they look.)
Now that we have the style and ui as we wanted and have the base for the gallery to be functional, we're getting back to the script coding again!
Before we started posting on here, we already did have the routes fully planned and with one of them have a full finished script, now it's a case of getting started writing the interactable dialogue and choices.
The start of next month is for finishing the prologue and first parts of the routes, and to also work on more sprites and backgrounds to go with the script.
We'll see where that leads.
Until the next one. :)

I'd like to share with y'all a project I've poured my heart and soul into over the last couple of years: a database cataloguing every single older queer science fiction book I've managed to track down, consisting of just over 200 titles with LGBT characters/themes & by LGBT authors, spanning over a century (1880-2000) 🚀
The database can be filtered by representation, subgenre, whether the book is currently in print, and more; additionally, it includes my own ratings & brief thoughts on the ones i have read, if anyone needs a suggestion on places to start! (or feel free to shoot me an ask for a more personalized recommendation)

hi, your art is so gorgeous and flowy! i was wondering if you had a sewing pattern for that cat you made because it is very cute and i’d love to make a bunny version myself ❤️
Oh, hello!! I'm very pleased to hear such words, you're very cute. It's pretty simple and you don't even need to sew. It is quite easy to find where pipecleaner is sold and there are many tutorials on the Internet on how to make different animals. So I already made a dog and a rabbit too. Good luck with this💗

I'm sorry for the lack of drawings, I am sick and I have to prepare for exams... So I'm showing a cat that I made for a friend.

Jumping on this trend with my precious twins! 🥺✨ It was so so so FUN to animate, but lip-sync drained my soul ToT I decided to change the meaning a bit, going as if they're talking about someone they both knew and framing this more as a dialogue about a lover that left their lifes, rather than them talking about each other as usually seen with this trend. "С тобой у нас" imo is a perfect phrase, cause there are multiple ways to translate it and instead of going with "between you and I" I went with the "you and us" to fit the narration i had in my head!
And while Éliot's heart is aching Émilien is more like: for the last time? Really?
At the end of the day "time will go by and you'll forget everything that happened".

I want to learn how to paint people, and I wad wondering if u have any tips? I rlly like your self-potraits alot and ur style of painting urself is something I want to achieve
I dont have to opportunities to go to art school but I still want to learn! any advice would be grand :)
thanks!
I do !! im not the best at explaining my process but i will try.
I think as a base level starting out some of my best advice is to practice drawing over a photograph. doing this repeatedly will give you an idea of where the features lie, start with tracing the entire image, to just the main features, to just the “bare bones” of the face.
as you get more comfortable with each step and take away detail it will be easier to understand and figure out on your own where these things look right placement wise.
im not the type of person to follow the standard templates or rules for learning certain art methods. i dont like vanishing points, i dont like measuring out the body with this person is whatever heads tall. i do better just going by what i see and replicating that.
when i first started with portraits the style way very different. i would make things very geometric only using flat colors to define the planes of the face. this was really helpful for me as well ! and as i got to understand things more i would transition into more traditional rendering.
heres some of that old art:

i would go into more depth with the rendering process etc but i do not want to overwhelm you !! so this is my advice on starting out :) i hope it offers some insight at least.

1 - An introduction - Hi, I made a big map. You see that big map up there? That's me, I did that. It's 400 megapixels. 400 million pixels of detail, precision and white-hot manic autistic passion. So why did I ensure an eventual carpal tunnel diagnosis by making this? I am Ohawhewhe, illustrator, writer, former professional drug addict and known emotional masochist, and for the past three and a half years of my life I have been on a quest to create a truly monumental work of art. Have I succeeded? No. But after 45 months of this project slowly consuming my life, I can say I'm off to a pretty good start. This map is the basis of the "THE WORLD BEYOND THE ICE WALL" worldbuilding project, one that aims to imagine a world in which every conspiracy theory is true. Every cryptid, every secret society, every occult concept, all the wacko paranormal stuff your crazy uncle posts about on Facebook, all tied together in a single grand narrative that unifies the lore of UFOlogy, lost civilizations, modern myths, urban legends and esoteric writings across the past few centuries. And what better world to cram all of that into than one proposed by a number of flat-earthers, where the disc-shaped map doesn’t end at the frozen wastelands of Antarctica, but extends beyond, to larger disc containing many more unknown continents capable of supporting life, with yet another barrier at its end, concealing an even larger realm an order of magnitude more expansive, and rich with worldbuilding opportunities?
Ultimately, my goal is to concoct the greatest schizopost of all time. Using this map as a base, what I envision is a fully illustrated version of the conspiracy iceberg, a massive corkboard of art, stories and information with red thread connecting them all together. But there's also much more to it than that. To truly bring this world to life, me and my collaborators have been attacking it from every angle, from the fundamental cosmology from which this world was formed, to the peoples and wildlife that populate each individual region. Follow for daily BTIW posts & please ask questions, it helps me write.

People don’t realize how much we sound like other things because we are created from the same laws of physics. “That potato in the microwave sounds like it’s screaming” is funny because it really is, air is vibrating out of a small hole which is how our throat works too. The babbling river that sounds like humans whispering, that’s because it’s a wet hollow cave with echo delivering the same functionality. The river doesn’t just sound like us, we sound like a river. They use a metal trashcan to create a lion’s roar for movie sound effects. But the truth is, not only does a trashcan sound like a lion, a lion sounds like a trashcan. Cars purr when you turn them on. Everything is like everything else. Inanimate objects are not so far away from life as it seems.
Remember the next time you feel more alone in the company of large buildings, or maybe less alone among the rocks of the river, that they are not completely unlike the parts of you.
