Look I’m not going to go out of my way to go to bat for Dafeng on webbed sites because I’m sure it has plenty of defenders, but the amount of people that are mad that the show is a comedy because they expected it to be a ‘serious wuxia’ is wild.

The trailers never once hid that it was a comedy.

This is the first trailer. There is a dance number ten seconds into it. The other trailers are like this too.

If comedy wuxia isn’t your bag obviously that’s fine, but acting like you were tricked is nuts when it was… marketed as exactly that.

the best part of cailian manor arc and probably the whole series is that llh is immune to drowning. he puts on the wedding dress, falls into the corpse lotus lake, sinks for a bit but then simply swims back to the surface and gets out of the water. the reason he can do that isn’t that he is a man and therefore stronger than the all the brides that died there before him — he is a character whom the corpse lotus lake recognises as lotus, not body. the body is li xiangyi who has been narratively decomposing in the sea and nurturing li lianhua on the shore for the past decade. lianhua is the lotus grown from the dead body of xiangyi, so of course he floats

i don’t think li lianhua is doomed by the narrative at all. you can be dead at the onset of the story and still not be doomed. just dead. he is however mortally offended by there being a narrative at all. he is walking backwards with a broom and erasing his footprints. he exits, pursued by the narrative, slams an invisible door in the last second and the narrative bounces off the horizon cartoonishly
