no you have to contribute to your fandom if you don't want it to die. most fandoms die because people say 'it's so sad watching the fandom die when the hype dies' without doing anything about it. I'm not saying you have to push out 100k word slow-burn fic, I'm not saying you have to make fan art or gif sets or edits or anything. I'm just saying we as a community should contribute to our fandom if we don't want it to die, and by contributing, I'm talking about giving kudos, commenting on your favorite fics, reblogging your favorite art and just talking about your favorite characters. that's enough to keep a fandom alive. that's the most effective way to keep a fandom alive in my humble opinion.

fandoms die because people stop talking about it, fandoms die because people stop engaging with fan content once the hype is gone. what I'm saying is, mainstream media's hype may be gone, but our fandom can stay alive and thriving if us as a community don't let it die.

Since people are talking about how a Wuko breakup could go, I've had this idea for a while. This is heavily based on your Wuko fics. (BECAUSE THEY'RE SO GOOD!)

So Mako and Wu have been in a secret relationship for a while now because Wu is afraid of the backlash they may receive. Mako is slowly but surely getting tired of this but, of course, doesn't say anything. Eventually an interviewer asks Wu a question about his relationship with his ex-bodyguard. Wu panics and says that they aren't together. I'm not sure how exactly this would play out or what exactly he would say but you get the idea.

Flash forward a little bit, Mako finds out (bonus drama points if someone in the Krew tells him) and he isn't happy. I also imagine there being other things going wrong but this was the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak. Him and Wu get into an argument blah blah blah drama blah blah blah hurtful words from both sides (mostly Mako) blah blah blah the mandatory "WE'RE OVER" before exiting stage left.

Cue the Krew being super shocked and confused. I really don't know who would be on whose side.

As far as them getting back together, they both need to learn this little skill called COMMUNICATION! Anyways then they live happily ever after or something.

This was actually really fun to write about! Please let me know what you think!

secret relationship drama YESSSSSSS

You know based on my fics that I love the idea of Wu being too scared to go public with Mako while Mako doesn't actually really like being totally private---he knows it's necessary for political reasons, and he's okay with the fact that it means they don't have to deal with all the attention that would come with such a scandelous relationship, but at the same time, Mako will start to internalize that he's just a secret to be kept, and it will wear on him until he snaps.

I like the idea that it could be the result of Wu panicking during and interview and saying something, but I feel like it would have to be 'worse' than "We aren't together, what are you talking about?" because that would be their agreed upon answer since they're keeping their relationship a secret, anyone who asks about it would get that answer...

Ohhhh what if Wu said something about Mako's heritage or his lower class status? Something like, the interviewer is wondering about his 'close friendship' with his ex bodyguard, people have speculated that it's something more---or maybe people have expressed concerns that Wu is such close friends with a working class firebender from republic city, does he really have the EK's best interest at heart with the company he keeps? so Wu immediately shuts it down and overcorrects by saying Mako's isn't even really a close friend, he's just a friend, and barely even a friend at that! He's just an excellent bodyguard and that's why Wu keeps his company....

and when Mako finds out what Wu said, he confronts him about it, and Wu makes a bunch of excuses---he's just trying to keep their relationship private, and he's just telling the interviewers what they need to hear, it's all politics, he doesn't really mean it... And Mako takes it the Wrong Way. Like Wu is so quick to lie in an interview, maybe Mako cant really trust what he has to say. Fight, breakup, Mako sulks, Wu is devastated and dramatic about it.

Normally I'm a Korra Wu bestie-ism truther but I actually think Korra would be on Mako's side on this one. I really don't think Korra likes the idea of secret relationships in general, and even less so because they're hiding their sexuality. I think Asami would empathize with Wu because she kind of knows what it's like to have to manage a public image the way he has to—yes, Korra is a public figure, but it's different. Asami understands needing to play politics to protect her company, and sees that Wu has to do the same thing to protect the Earth Kingdom

Bolin just wants everyone to get along. I'm sure he's the master of hijinks in trying to get them back together lol Opal is a long for the ride and has to temper Bolin's more outrageous plans
