i’m so appreciative to suzanne for reframing the rebellion from the original trilogy as a “they saw their moment and took it” type situation and showing us that they’ve been trying, over and over, with so many failed attempts, to break the arena and incite a rebellion for decades. in this current political climate never giving up hope is so essential. haymitch wasn’t the first nor the last, and they kept going even when it seemed completely futile, and that’s what counts, and what ultimately saves them all.

i can't express enough how much i love missy and malakai, their friendship and how they just get each other on such a deep level. how their aboriginality is expressed in how they dress and decorate their spaces (malakai often wears mob-owned brands, missy has an "always was always will be" sticker on her car and her hair tie during the footy game is black, red and yellow). how cheeky and playful they are with each other. how apparent it is when they're in scenes by themselves that they code-switch when talking to their non-aboriginal friends.

Quinn would have died from that snakebite if she wasn’t autistic. She woudn’t have known not to panic, and she wouldn’t have had the mental strength and objective reasoning to be able to look at the situation from outside herself and be able to stop herself from panicking and communicate to the others that that’s what she needed. I love that they had an arc that showed autism as an asset, without the need to loudly and overtly assert it. ♥️
