Max wasn’t often one for venturing too far outside the town.  He much preferred to spend time in Alvarna, with his friends and family.  But when Kyle had approached him, asking if he’d like to join the earthmate on a small expedition through the woods, and Rosalind had encouraged it, asking if he’d be able to grab something for her, he hadn’t been able to say no.  Why she wasn’t able to buy it or just ask Kyle to grab it, Max didn’t question.

With a blizzard shutting Rigbarth down, Alice and Scarlett are snowed in with nothing but time on their hands. No place to go, nothing to do, plenty of snacks to share and a steady supply of hot chocolate makes a perfect recipe for some winter time cuddles.

The cocoa was drunk, the cookies disappeared and (most) of the popcorn was eaten. Some had ended up on the floor or in the couch cushions after Alice had started an impromptu game to see who could catch the most popcorn in their mouth when tossed by the other. Scarlett won. Alice had graciously bestowed upon her the title of Popcorn Queen.

“Top up on the hot chocolate?” Alice asked, grabbing Scarlett’s mug as she got up from the couch.

“Please.”

While Alice was busy in the kitchen, Scarlett turned her gaze to the window. It was dark out now, difficult to see outside, but she could catch the occasional glimpse of the steadily falling snow. She wondered how deep it was now, how much deeper it would be in the morning. She worried about the people in town – despite all their preparations she just knew there was going to be something missed. Would everyone have enough firewood, enough food, the medicine they needed? Would their houses be warm enough and hold up to all the wind and snow?

Her worried thoughts were broken when a weight settled into the couch right beside her. “Here you go,” Alice handed over Scarlett’s refilled mug, “Nice and hot.”
