List update! One month in.Â
So here are 30 things I’m hoping to do in this year of our Lord 2K18 (i.e. the 30th one I’ve been here):
1.  Travel abroad (I figured I’d set myself up for success. I’ll be in Israel and France in January, and the Israel part is new). Done! Home now from the very best trip.Â
2.  Get a tattoo. I’m going to do it. I’m finally going to do it. I think. Also done (!)
3. Run some road races again. (currently signed up for a half marathon in April)
4. Read 30 fiction books. (Theology doesn’t count, even if it’s by Marcus Borg or whatever.)
So far:Â
Woman at Point Zero - Nawal El Saadawi, The Ninth Hour - Alice McDermott, The Weight of Ink -  Rachel Kadish, The Idiot - Elif Batuman
5. Spend a day at the beach.
6. Visit all of the Smithsonian museums, at least once each.
7. Go to a historical and/or battle reenactment. (Dressing up optional, but advised).
8. Cook 30 new things.
So far: lasagna! I’m going to have to step it up re: this one, probably.Â
9. Visit/attend services at at least three places of worship that aren’t Anglican/Episcopalian/Catholic.
10. Spend time on an archeological dig.
11. Send birthday cards to my sisters and parents like an adult.
12. Write an icon (I am so terrible at art, this is likely a terrible idea).
13. Visit a new national park.
14. Take my husband to visit Wellesley.
15. Regularly keep a running/training journal/blog.
Failing at this, but I’m marking miles in my day planner. So.Â
16. Volunteer and/or raise money for something important to me.
17. Pray Compline every evening, even if I’m away from home, working, exhausted, etc.
Generally have been successful here. A few hiccups when traveling (no excuse!)
18. Buy more silverware so we can host a dinner party (…..help).
19. Clean out my closet and give away the things I don’t need/wear.
20. Explore more of Virginia/The South while we’re still here.
21. Submit something for publication.
22. Preach completely without notes (I’ve done this in CPE situations, but never in a parish).
23. Try a new sport/fitness thing (i.e. not running).
24. Do a wine or beer tasting.
25. Say yes to an unexpected thing.
26. Guilt advise more people to attend Evensong.
27. Learn Hebrew.
28. Make a cat-themed Christmas/holiday card (#noregrets).
29. Say no to being on 7000 committees.
Doing some admirable work here.Â
30. Celebrate this upcoming year of goodness numinously well (weddings! ordinations! anniversaries!)
Also here :)Â

January 2nd
Hit the gym today to avoid the cold (call it an attempt to avoid sickness before travel) and ended in the could-do-more sweet spot.Â
- seven miles at 8:34/miÂ
- two miles power-walking at 1.5 incline
- three sets with the free weightsÂ
- good stretching, much foam rollingÂ
I’ve been tossing around the idea of signing up for a full marathon in the fall (kyrie eleison). But we’ll see how this goes.Â

30 at 30
On January 8th, 2018, I will arrive in the Holy Land for the first time. I will also turn 30 - somewhere in there, over the Atlantic - and thus inaugurate a series of things I’ve been hoping to attach to an arbitrary life milestone.Â
In truth, 30 isn’t really hitting me much differently than 29 (or 28. or 27.). I’ve succeeded in some important things, failed in others. In general, the movements of my daily frolic through the exigencies of earth-person living are graced, deliberate, and quietly good. I am, below and above it all, happy.Â
So here are 30 things I’m hoping to do in this year of our Lord 2K18 (i.e. the 30th one I’ve been here):Â
