I don’t think it’s said in-game but by observing Todd’s behaviors a lot of us have assumed Leo is on red ice, aka meth with thirium in it. Leo has the twitchy, on-edge nature of someone on a LARGE dose of a stimulant and when he gets agitated about Carl’s questions he has a fast and forced tone, almost frantic to get the words out. A big part of that is to interrupt Carl because Leo knows he’s doing something harmful to himself and it’s a shameful way to be, and if you know a thing about shame a usual response to others is aggression. Stimulants (when you have too big of a dose) can make you frantic as well, even if you’re not aggressive. Leo talks quickly and like he can’t get the words out because of it.

He also talks with his hands, like a lot. That would’ve been a bitch to animate, but it adds a degree of realism to his character because the movements don’t feel calculated or scripted, they feel dramatic. One of my favorite parts is when he’s saying “I’m not perfect like this fuckin’ thing” because his entire body moves with his words.

Now, I’ve been in a couple fights (albeit with the same person every time) and it’s usually not serious dialogue because you want to rile the other person up. You’ll insult them and taunt them if you’re looking to fight. You don’t have confrontation like “I’m jealous of you for being a better son than me”, it’ll be a lot more like “You’re a perfect little bitch, huh? Always obedient, never fail?” which is precisely what Leo does. Nobody else in the game has dialogue or movements like this, and sure Leo may act overdramatic but it’s the kind of overdramatic we see and experience.

Detroit has a lot of dramatic dialogue, y’know the kind that makes it serious and emotional, and then you get Leo who’s completely opposite to that. His tonality and behavior is wild, accusing, and instigating. He wants to fight Markus, he wants Markus to fight back. And he achieves this by pushing Markus both physically and emotionally (DON’T DEFEND MYSELF?). Hell, even I felt agitated by his comments because they’re the exact things anyone would say trying to start a fight. He’s got a different type of substance to him because of that.
