He did not live much longer after this photo was taken. Dagmar went on to marry his younger br...other who became Tsar Alexander lll. Dagmar was not immediately in love with Alexander but Nikolai had asked her to marry his brother before his death. Eventually she became wholeheartedly in love with Alexander.

Princess Alexandra Friederike Henriette of Saxe-Altenburg became wife to Constantine, the 2nd son of Nikolay l when she was 19 years old. She was a rare beauty: when Constantine saw her he wrote to his father:'I want to marry her, either she or nobody!' They lived happily until her son destroyed her family's icon. After that her husband left her for another woman, her eldest son was sent out of Russia, her youngest son died. She died at the age of 80; her last seeds died in 2007.

Daughter-in-law of Queen Victoria.Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia was a daughter of Alexander II of Russia/Empress Maria Alexandrovna. Maria became the wife of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, the 2nd son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. She died in exile in Switzerland after World War I when Coburg, the principality her husband and nephew had ruled, ceased to exist.
