Grateful for all the beautiful things in the mountains that require a bit of struggle to be uncovered.

We went to see Pinegrove play a small room at UNH, and it ended up being one of the best sets I saw all year. I’d checked out the demos floating around online after Empire!Empire! mentioned them as one of their favorite bands, and I liked a bunch of those songs but hadn’t really given Cardinal a legit listen yet. Hearing this band live cemented my love for them. @runforcoverrecords @pinegroveband

As our trip began to wind down, I became obsessed with seeing Sitting Bear. While my companions settled down around the fire at our campsite between Bear Mountain and Hawksbill, I set off into the woods wearing my camp shoes, under the uninformed opinion that it “wasn’t that far”. The rolling trail up the ridge of Bear Mountain was beautiful, but a uniform dusting of dried leaves made it slow going, and kept me cursing the camp shoes the entire way. I reached Sitting Bear, and decided to push on to the summit of Bear Mountain instead of turning back. I came back down to camp with my headlamp, capturing this shot of the gorge on the way down. My friends looked up from the campfire. “We thought you were dead!”
