Evaluation
Over the course of the past 3 projects I have tried many new and different techniques and art styles whilst trying to create 3D assets / environments.
The first project was called “when the bough breaks”, The aim of the project was to create a new and original game based around the topic of disability. For my game, I had an idea of a post-apocalyptic game in which the main settlement / community outcasts anyone that has any sort of disability or is a drain on the settlements resources. I wanted to base my settlement on a real place that exists. I wanted to make the place seem somewhat realistic to the current world. It took me a few weeks to fully decide on exactly what I wanted the place to look like. I used cinema 4D to create my settlement but when I went to finally render my work my computer crashed causing me to lose most of my work leaving me with a nowhere near finished piece of work. For this project, I also tried a Low Poly approach to my games idea as well as a more medieval design. Instead of a turning a real place into a settlement I decided to create my own place, a castle in the snowy mountains surrounded by lava. This was one of my original ideas which I got bored of after a few weeks. Overall one of my main problems with this project was the fact that I couldn’t think of an idea that I wanted to stay with and follow through with.
The second project “Lost in translation” tasked us with turning the ideas of a few original books into something new and original. For my first idea, I wanted to use the idea of Frankenstein and create a secret underground scientific lab / lair. I tried creating a log cabin in the middle of the woods which held a mad scientist’s lab underneath. Just like the first project I got bored of my original idea and changed to the idea of another novel, Starship Troopers. For this book, I wanted to design the control room to a spaceship. I wanted the main focal point of my work to be a hologram desk, because of this I took a lot of time creating a glowing as well as transparent hologram texture. One of my main problems throughout the course of my second project was my attention span and commitment to one idea / final piece. Although I didn’t fully finish either piece of my work that I started, I still really enjoyed creating different models other than just environments.
The third and final project “Under Wraps” gave us a few different world issues to choose from and asked us to create a piece of work around the issue we chose. I chose the issue of WMD’s and decided to look specifically into the North Korean missile tests in which they are testing their weapons by firing them over Japan into the ocean. I wanted to create a small market square with a thick layer of gas covering the town. To go along with this, I also started to create an actual model of a part of a missile. Using stuff that had been thrown out I attempted to create a compartment of a missile. This was probably the first project in which I didn’t change my idea halfway through. Instead I started to create something in a completely different type of media to try and improve my skills in many different fields.
In conclusion, I think that my main problem over the past 3 projects has been my attention span to each of my ideas. If I would have stuck with my first idea in each project I would have created a lot more work but by changing my idea so much I tried many different styles and techniques meaning I have experience in a lot more different things for later projects. Another problem I had over the 3 projects was my lack of physical work / worksheets. I think I have improved at cinema 4d over the past 3 projects as I have used it a lot and also in a lot of different ways. I’ve used it to create environments, smaller assets and also vehicles in different styles as well such as Low Poly and realistic.

At the beginning of this project I chose the book Frankenstein as I wanted to create a mad scientists lab under a log cabin in the woods. A few lessons after starting this model however I got really bored with the work I was doing so I instead started to create a lab in a sewer tunnel which I also got bored of after about 2 hours. In the end I decided to completely change my idea and look at the book starship troopers instead. I wanted to create the main control room of the ship and maybe a bit more of the actual exterior if I had time. One of the hardest / most challenging parts of the project was the creation of my hologram desk which I wanted to be the centre point of my control room. I wanted the holograms to glow and partially light up the room. Another challenge I encountered whilst creating the room was the curved glass at the from which took me a good few hours to get symmetrically accurate. I also couldn't decide what textures to use for each of the items within the room so I ended up using simple textures as a kind of placeholder but I never got round to changing the textures to something better. Overall I feel that the main problem I encountered within this project was the fact that I couldn't decide on my final idea for a few weeks which gave me less time to create one finished project, instead I have a few unfinished pieces. one of my main problems with any project is the fact that in my head I can picture exactly what I want to create but when it comes to actually creating it my attention span just doesn't last long enough to follow through with it and also if the work doesn't look exactly like how I picture it within my head I restart and try again until it looks exactly how I want it to.

Avatar
In the film Avatar the main ship for the humans contains a central control room which has a table that projects a hologram much like what my smaller scale table does. When creating my holograms I looked at this film to see what makes the hologram look more like a hologram and less like a blue ball that you can partially see through

My Final Idea
My final idea was to create the interior to a spaceship, focusing on the control room. Within the room I wanted a table that would project holograms of the planets close to my ship. I also wanted control panels and computers within my control room and if I would of decided what I wanted to do earlier on in the project I probably would have been able to complete this task as well as perhaps create the exterior to my ship.

Warframe
Warframe is a free game which allows you to explore planets and find and earn loot much like Destiny. A further comparison you can draw between Warfare and Destiny is the loading screen between each location being focused on your spaceship, however in Warfare you can walk around your ship as well as customise the interior to your liking.

Space Shuttle Columbia
The Columbia was Nasa’s first ever space shuttle sent into space. The shuttle was first launched on the 12th of April 1981. The Columbia completed 27 successful missions but exploded on its 28th mission, a 16 day space exploration that concluded on the 1st of February 2003, the day the Columbia exploded

DC
Within the DC tv shows(animated and non-animated), the extended film universe and the comics there are many different spaceships whether they aid their owners in travelling through time or are just an advanced way of getting around the world.

Star Trek
Star Trek has a lot of scenes from within the spaceships control room as it is the main part of any spacecraft. I really like the layout of the control rooms as they re quite simple but contain a lot of advanced technology.

Abandoned Soviet Space Centre
In the Kazakhstan desert there is an old Soviet space centre that has been left abandoned for around 20 years and also contains two half completed space shuttles. It was created in the initial race to space between the two superpowers and after losing the race leaving their only physical reminder of their failure in the middle of nowhere was probably the best thing they could do. The two spacecrafts left uncompleted were designed for the Buran orbital vehicle programme, the Soviets largest and most expensive space exploration program.

Nasa’s Control Centres
Nasa are constantly sending new devices into space to find out the hidden secrets within our solar system. To be able to achieve this goal they must be able to control the devices they send into space and to do this they use large control rooms consisting of many computers and advanced technology. These control rooms are seen a lot when a new kind of device or spacecraft is sent into space.

The holograms I created by making a new material within which I used a gradient to give the hologram effect as well as the transparency.

Marvel
Within the marvel cinematic universe there are many different spacecrafts. the main films that show off these spacecrafts is guardians of the galaxy and now due to how far they are into the films a lot more will start appearing. I really like how each different species within the films have their own kind of spacecrafts whether they follow the same shape or design.

Engines
I looked at different types of engines used in different types of aircraft to try and create my own engines. I looked at things ranging from jet engines to rocket engines.
