DECK was just named “Best Album” in Boston Magazine's #BestOfBoston2025 issue! I love that we’re a band from Boston and I love getting to rep our city in small ways that don’t fit in with all the usual cliches. Boston’s is a strange, beautiful place and that’s where DECK comes from. Thanks for giving our gigantic, unhinged mega-project some love. It means a lot to us.

Lotta complicated feelings about the David Lynch auction @ Julien's: understanding it implies they aren't going to turn his house into a museum, seeing some stuff that seems like it should 100% be kept for his archives, knowing I'll never afford any of it.

Friends, today is my great pleasure to tell you about one of the non-HTH members of the DECK team, Mr. Evan Sicuranza of Crooked Horse Studio who 1) Has been my dear friend for a long, long time 2) first taught me how to write songs 3) mixed HEARTS and SPADES as well as recording much of HEARTS and the CLUBS main vocals, too! Without Evan, there would be no finished DECK, I'm certain of it.
The most recent preview song, "It's Undeniable" (available everywhere now!), is the first thing we've released from the portion of DECK where Evan was at the mixing board and it's just phenomenal work. In the late 90's, I used to be over at Evan's place in the South End of Boston all the time; we'd stay up all night bashing on guitars and goofing around. Evan was the first person to really show me, face to face, what went into writing a song. And then he told me I could do it as well! And folks? I believed him. From 2000-2005 we co-led a band called The Stairs where we'd write songs together or arrange each other's songs and the whole thing was like a really fun art-bootcamp. To this day, there are so many songs Evan wrote that I am envious of! Some of these photos below show that Stairs era.
Evan is also one of the funniest people I've ever met in my entire life. When I think of the times I've been brought to literal tears from laughing, so many of them involve Evan going on about some absurd premise that he would build and build with unexpected details and hairpin turns. To have this kind of laughter always nearby while mixing something as emotionally heavy as the HEARTS LP was such a relief. This was right in line with a theme that recurs throughout the DECK songs and the process of making it: turning negatives into positives, turning bad luck into good fortune, and finding a new way forward when you think you're cornered in a dead end.
So, please, join me in thanking Evan and please do work with him! You'll be happy you did!
