Gozyuger is an insane show but by far the craziest part to me is the gap between how Hoeru is perceived by others and his actual deal.

How everyone sees him:

Boyfailure with no aspirations, talents, or applicable skills. What a loser. (affectionate)

Punk that probably dropped out of school or ran away from home or something.

The insane fucking reality:

Dropped in alien dimension as a small child and survived alone against all odds.

Been in constant survival mode for his entire adolescence; excised all extraneous emotion and aspirations in order to just survive.

Returned to human world the sole survivor after a decade, only to find out his family moved on from his disappearance with new children. Literally went through hell to get home, just to find out it was all pointless. It never mattered whether he lived or died.

Didn’t get any education between 10 and 20, and was suddenly dropped in adult society with no identity, money, or knowledge, but has managed to adapt enough to get by through sheer grit. Found a safe place to live and figured out how to get jobs against all odds. It's actually pretty impressive he’s doing as well as he is.

Quite literally too traumatized to function in society but somehow managing it anyway because fuck it.

Just. The juxtaposition of Hoeru being perceived as a total loser and the reality that he is capable of surviving literally anything and has been doing so since he was a kid with basically zero help from anyone. It's insane. Someone needs to tell him he's done so so so well, all things considered.
