Week 13 - Assignment 3 Postmortem
Since we only have 2 members, we tried to complete the assignment as much as possible. We chose platformer as our genre and use my concept from assignment 2. Luckily, Lily Manner was artist and we could use her character design and environment design to our prototype. Our prototype became simple platformer which doesn't have any special features. We only had time to add background music, sound effects and End game scene after the feedback from playtest. We wanted to add more function that increase the replayability and excitement of our game.
Lastly, thanks to Lily Manner who is my team member and did Character and Environment Design and Animation of our prototype. She was very active and very beneficial to the team.

Week 12 - Prototype Update, Gameplay Video
After the playtest we had on last week, we updated and polished our prototype. First, we have audio include background music and sound effects play when the player die or player kill the enemy. Second, we added the scene that shows when players reach the top/goal. After reaching top/goal, player can choose go back to the start menu or quit the game. We wanted to add more function like score system or player ability's but since we are have only 2 members, we decided to not add any of that. We also recorded the gameplay video for the assignment 3b that showing all the elements in our prototype.

Week 11 - Playtesting
Since we only have two members in our team, we decided to playtest two people each. I chose playtester one(ID#1) from my roommate and one(ID#2) from my friend in Japan.
Findings
Some platforms which move up and down behave strangely when players are on it.
No BGM, SE
Players want to shoot or do something else, not just moving
Player want score system or time limit
Discussion
Both playtesters are enjoyed our prototype and gave us good feedback. But they both mentioned that our prototype is too simple and they want additional function like score system or shooting system. They also want some audio. The audio is easy to add to the prototype but adding score system and additional functions are time consuming so need to discuss in the team for the further development.

Week 10 - Assignment 3 Development Progress
Part A of the assignment is due on this week so we quickly discussed about our game’s concepts and look and feels. We decided to combine my pitch and Lily(one of our members)’s arts, and created timeline and task allocation for our project.
One of our team member have not responded since the group formation so we’re worry about how this is going but we will try our best to finish this assignment.

Week9 - Group Formation
In week 9, we’re moving onto assignment 3 and need group members that fits my pitch. I’m interested in platformer genre so I’m going to find people who are also interested in the genre. I’m not a good artists so it would be great i can find people who can good at it.

Race Postmortem
From this development, I leaned that how the race/run game works. The fact that move the object to the bottom of the screen to make it appear as if the player is moving forward was very interesting. I wanted to add more effects/objects into the project to polish. I also wanted to add items which can explode all the cars and makes easier for players to drive the car, but i didn't manage to implement this function to final prototype. For the next development, I want to create more innovative project using this experience.

Race Development#3
Add the function that allows the traffic to collide with players’ car so that this game have lose condition. Add score system to make goals/end of the game. Add items that allows players to destroy all the traffic showing in the scene.
Challenge: I wanted all the traffic explode when players pick up items but explode occur only the first time players pick up the item. And i wanted to change the spawn rate of the item but i could not manage to change it.

Race Development#2
Add traffic and trees that moving down to the bottom of the scene. add the function that allows players to control players’ car left and right. Now players’ car looks like moving forward on the highway.
Challenge:it was hard to make the left traffic to move upward and right traffic to move downward. adjusting the tilt of the players’ car was a little bit difficult because it has to look like a real car’s movement.
Next: Currently, traffic does’t collide with players’ car. For the next development, make the traffic collide with players’ car so that this game have lose condition. Add score system to make goals/end of the game. add items that allows players to destroy all the traffic showing in the scene.

Asteroid Postmortem
From the Asteroid development, i could increase my knowledge about game development. i’m not familiar with Shoot 'em up genre, but i have created one Shoot 'em up game before this unit. It was a 3d game but this time, the project was made in 2d so it was very different from the last one. i wanted to create more items/objects and more clear end/goal to the game. Wanted to add more different types of enemies.

Asteroid Development#4
Add the function that allows player to move around the scene. Add item that increase player’s health. Add the function that allows player to restart the scene when they died.
Challenge: it was hard to implement the item function to the game. on the early concept, the item was design to increase the fire rate of the player’s gun, but i couldn’t manage to program the function. so i changed it to increase the player’s health.

Asteroid Development#3
Add health point and score point to the game. Players can lose their health by colliding with enemy. If players lose all health, the game automatically restart the scene. Now, the goal of this game is to reach highest score by shooting enemy ships.
Challenge:i was hard to implement the score and health point to the game because i’m not good at programming.
Next: Add the function that allows player to move around the scene. Add item that increase player’s health. add the function that allows player to restart the scene when they died

Asteroid Development #2
Added the large enemy and the middle enemy that spawn randomly. Also added Health function to the game.
Challenge: adjusting the speed of the enemy was a little bit challenging. I decided to make the large enemy slower than the middle enemy so that players can feel difference in size of the enemy.
Next: Add health points that can be reduced when players collide with enemy. Player can shoot the enemy and make them disappear.

Asteroid Development #1
Added the players’ spaceship which can shoot the green bullet and made the background color black so that players can easy to see. Also added the rotation function so that players can rotate their ship.
Challenge: adjusting the fire rate of the gun was a little bit difficult. Too fast fire rate make the bullet looks like razor, and might make the game too easy,
