Greenwash ad from Swedish forest lobbyists - with new voiceover from Mattias Olsson on Vimeo.

Campfire Stories is producing a film on sustainable forestry. The film is a response to a greenwashing campaign from the Swedish forestry industry, which claims it's "environmentally smart" to clear cut forests.

We've taken the liberty of giving this ad a new voiceover; as a gentle suggestion of what the ad should be saying if it indeed wanted to announce an environmentally friendly direction. The film we're producing goes into depth about why the current approach to forestry is so toxic. See four of its main points further down. Four important points about forestry, that deserve to be common knowledge: 1) A clear cut area emits huge quantities of CO2, for 10 - 15 years, before the new seedlings grow into trees big enough to sequester more CO2 than the area emits. To create clear cuts is a hopelessly outdated practice and a direct insult to the ongoing challenge of mitigating climate change. 2) The monocrop plantations of pine and spruce that have replaced the real forests in Sweden are way more susceptible to storms, insects and fires. In a real forest there's trees of different ages and types that help each other when danger looms. Through a complex web of roots and mykhorritza, the forest is able to collaborate as a super organism, as opposed to a bunch of individual trees. 3) The monocrop tree plantations cannot host all the different species that a real forest can. Thus we're left with a tremendous loss of biodiversity. 4) There's an alternative to clearcutting. When we switch to Ecoforestry we maintain or restore the forests to standards where they may still be harvested for products, but on a sustainable basis. This means we'll still have forests AND have a forest industry. This method makes sense not only ecologically, but actually also economically. Although the potential economic gain shouldn't be the motivating factor.

These ideas will be further explored and explained in the upcoming film.

Blur is a short film about a world where silence and absence are the only things left for the protagonists. We look at a shifted reality which, like the palace itself, is a decaying relic. Memory of trauma and inflicted harm is blurred, mixed with dreams and distorted imaginations. For our heroes, the time before imprisonment is only a distant, hazy memory. Treating Mateusz Pałka's music as a starting point, we were looking for an impressionable story where the catastrophe has already happened, and we are only looking at a fragment of the world redefined by it.

I remember black jackets, haste, rumble And anxious lights twinkling in the distance

They put us here so we’d get lost and forget

It started with the meaning of words Then all my clothes were thrown away and I was told to wear different ones

It is said that when the swallows sing It means danger They sing all the time And we often wonder If the man who studied them Could have been wrong.

We were dressed in walls Nestled with endless listening Soothed with infinite certainty That nothing will ever change again

Swallows are born by chance out of bricks and crumbling plaster I think so

Walls are said to have been built by a man So where did the swallows come from If death awaits them everywhere else

Sometimes at night I imagine As quietly as I can That far away from here There is a place Where life is different

I also count time It seems to me That it once meant something.

They said we were broken But I'm not sure. The man who said it Was wearing a mask.

I remember hills on fire, tents Blackness and men. I remember the buzz of our voices And uncertain faces. But since all thats left is us two and silence I wonder if these aren't just dreams Born out of fear and boredom.

None of the swallows that flew away Ever came back.

I think about them And I'm jealous.

Just like the walls are jealous of air And from time to time crumble to dust.

The story told in "Blur" consists of two elements - image and text.

The text was written with voiceover in mind, but we quickly realized that it was not worth disturbing the silence prevailing in the film, which for us on many levels is one of the most important and meaningful elements of the narrative.

Nevertheless, the text extends the meanings and gives context to the images, which is why we decided to approach this puzzle creatively and create materials accompanying the film, which constitute a set of connected vessels that make up the reception of the narrative.
