What title would Ganondorf have? I know he's referred to as the Demon King or as a king by most people but Riju uses the title Chieftess, Lady and Makeela (idk if that last one is her first name or a Gerudo title). Does anyone know how the Gerudo would refer to Ganondorf? Would the also call him king or would they call him chief?

By botw/totk standards probably Chief as I don’t think it’d be different because his gender but I could also see them calling him their King considering in general that gerudo men are rare

Just a snippet of a modern au I’m workin on

Sky didn’t like to think about his place in the world. 

He didn’t like to think as Ganondorf yelled at him to do it again.

He didn’t like to think as he reloaded his gun without looking, shooting the target one handed.

1,2,3,4,5 perfect shots in the chest, all except for one.

“ Again.” Ganondorf ordered.

Normal kids didn’t spend their only time with their father practicing their aim.

Sky wasn’t a normal kid.

He knew that.

So why did it sit so uncomfortably in his chest when all six bullets shot the paper target square in the heart? 

And why was Ganondorf’s hand on his shoulder so cold?

And why did his stomach churn when he spoke.

“ What's on your mind, vehvi?” Ganondorf asked him gently.

Sky didn’t react. Sky was trained not to react.

“ Kiddo, I can’t help you if you don't talk to me.” Ganondorf responded to his silence. Sky just stared at the target, the gun, his outstretched arm.

Ganondorf traced his gaze, clearing his throat.

“ You did good, Sky, wash up and join your brothers for dinner.” He said, gently taking the gun out of Sky’s hands, clicking the safety on as he spoke.

Sky mumbled something as his hand drifted down to his side.

 Ganondorf huffed in frustration as he checked the chamber for any remaining bullets.

“ Sky, you know how I feel about the mumbling, don’t let me catch you doing it again.” He ordered.

Everything was an order.

“ I don’t feel well.” Sky said clearly, albeit quietly.

“ Then take something and get some rest. Your grandfather would not be pleased if you were sick tomorrow when he came to visit.” Ganondorf told him.

 “ Why do you do that?” Sky asked.

Ganondorf hissed through his teeth, getting more impatient with the teen by the minute.

“ Do what?” He signed angrily.

Sky didn’t think.

“ Call him grandfather,  why do you insist that we’re a family?” Sky asked bluntly.

Ganondorf huffed again.

“ Because that’s just how we do things around here,  vehvi.” He paused, and hum of the fluorescent lights became the only noise in the room.

“ Don’t ask anything like that again, Sky.”

An order.

Everything was an order.

“ Yes sir.” Sky responded.

He really did feel sick now.

Making your angst hurt: the power of lighthearted scenes. 

I’m incredibly disappointed with the trend in stories (especially ‘edgy’ YA novels) to bombard the reader with traumatic situations, angry characters, and relationship drama without ever first giving them a reason to root for a better future. As a reader…

I might care that the main siblings are fighting if they had first been shown to have at least one happy, healthy conversation. 

I might cry and rage with the protagonist if I knew they actually had the capacity to laugh and smile and be happy.

I might be hit by heavy and dark situations if there was some notion that it was possible for this world to have light and hope and joy to begin with.

Writers seem to forget that their reader’s eyes adjust to the dark. If you want to give your reader a truly bleak situation in a continually dim setting, you have to put them in pitch blackness. But if you just shine a light first, the sudden change makes the contrast appear substantial.

Show your readers what light means to your character before taking it away. Let the reader bond with the characters in their happy moments before (and in between) tearing them apart. Give readers a future to root for by putting sparks of that future into the past and the present. Make your character’s tears and anger mean something.

Not only will this give your dark and emotional scenes more impact, but it says something that we as humans desperately, desperately need to hear. 

Books with light amidst the darkness tell us that while things are hard and hurt, that we’re still allowed to breathe and hope and live and even laugh within the darkness.

We as humans need to hear this more often, because acting it out is the only way we stop from suffocating long enough to make a difference.

So write angst, and darkness, and gritty, painful stories, full of treacherous morally grey characters if you want to. But don’t forget to turn the light on occasionally.
